  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) Vaz-Kez is proper. That's what I've always called him. If it were Carlos Vasquez then I'd go Vass-kez.
  2. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) It is realy not that uncommon for a player to take less to stay with the same team. If you think back awhile, some guy named Paul Konerko did it. Konerko did not take less money. (near the bottom of the page.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) Raines, probably. Tim Raines was an incredibly high OBP hitter. He's easily one of the top 10 leadoff men of all time. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) Nope and nope. He played for the Sox in 1987 and 1988. But his batting averages were only .236 and .263 those years, so he was shipped off to Pittsburgh because that didn't cut it for a leadoff hitter (even if he was a prolific base-stealer). During his Sox seasons, he stole 78 bases and was caught only 13 times (85.7% success rate). Gary Redus
  4. Trading down to get Jason Smith would have made more sense than Noah even if big American white guys do tend to suck.
  5. What are the odds Skiles ends up beating Noah's ass? I keep hearing how Noah is such a perfect Skiles sort of player which is true since he plays hard and leaves it all on the floor but how will his smug, arrogant, outspoken personality set with Scott Skiles/Ben Wallace?
  6. Aaron Gray is fat and bad, this is the most disappointing draft I've ever experienced.
  7. If the Sox can make it back to .500 by the All-Star break I'll feel comfortable declaring them back in this thing.
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) If I compare Jon Garland to anyone in our system, it is Lance Broadway. Their minor league numbers are very similar, IMO. Except for the fact that Jon Garland was 3 years younger than Broadway at each stop.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) I continue to enjoy the constant ripping of the main cog in our wheel. I know you repeat that all teams tend to do well when their leadoff hitter is hitting well, Kalapse, but in an organization that has absolutely no prospect of a leadoff hitter whatsoever, one might think that the guy would be appreciated a bit more. He is not Rickey Henderson, I understand that, but one might think that someone who's success seems to correlate so much with the success of the team would have a few more backers. I, for one, don't take it as a coincidence that the White Sox offense has awoken somewhat since Scottie has returned to the lineup. He's already missed 2 full months this season, was hurt all last year and has spent more time being mediocre over the course of his career than he has anything else. Every lineup performs better when there's a guy at the top getting on base, this is a fact, you can do the same research I have, the only problem is Scott Podsednik is either injured or bad more often than he's going good. And I never said there was a replacement for him in house, that's why I pine for Carlos Gomez who would force the Scott Podsednik era to die. Podsednik does hold the key to the offense, I can agree with that, the only problem is he's not healthy nearly enough, it's foolish to rely on a guy like him to be a major player on your team when he has shown time and time again that he should not be relied upon. He has mediocre tools and constant groin strains (definitely a good thing for a leadoff hitter) I don't want to see this lineup rely on a guy like that.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Conteras to the Mets and get gomez back. That's pretty much my dream scenario right there, it would mean the end of Scott Podsednik which is always a good thing to think about, it would add a young high upside talent to a team that needs as many of those as possible and would fill a couple needs for the team. I highly doubt Jose has that sort of trade value, however.
  11. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Kalapse, A lot of people here, including myself take what you say about the White Sox seriously. You really seem to know what is going on, you might not have a sorce, but you have a great baseball mind. Having said that, are you for the Sox resigning Mark at the proposed deal, or would you rather re-stock the farm by trading him? I'm torn. This team is old and in desperately need of an influx of young talent and it's going to be tough to do that from within considering how weak the Sox' farm system is, especially when it comes to position players. So trading away a player of Buehrle's caliber should help big time in that regard. However it appears KW isn't being offered anywhere near the sort of talent you'd expect to receive in any Buehrle deal, so restocking the farm through a deal involving Mark doesn't look like it would work. The Sox' front office could instead choose to sell off other pieces such as Jose Contreras or even Javier Vazquez both of whom are signed long term and have reportedly caught the eye of a few GMs around baseball. Besides freeing up the money owed to Jose would be a huge asset in free agency. There's also Jermaine who should have some decent trade value if he can get back on the field within the next week or so. Then there's the financial aspect. I don't buy the 4 year, $50M offer one bit, it just seems like too much of a weak deal for a player of Mark's caliber. He should be looking at 1-2 more years and $20-$40M added on to that. So realistically I'd expect Mark to re-sign for a deal closer to 5 years, $75M. After doing some research this week I had a very tough time finding any starting pitchers who received a 5+ year deal and actually performed consistently well through out the entire length of the deal. Names like Park, Millwood, Colon, Dreifort, Brown and the best comparison of all, Mike Hampton who was actually a year younger than Mark and a better pitcher at the time he signed his 8 year deal with Colorado, he also had the same clean bill of health that Mark has had over the course of his 7 year career. Hampton hasn't pitched in 2 years now and that deal is now considered one of the worst in the history of the game. I just don't see how Buehrle is any different. So the chances of Mark living up to the expectations set upon him by a 5 year deal are pretty slim if history is any indication. That being said the man is the face of the franchise, a team/community leader and one of the better starting pitchers in the game so it'd be tough to see him go. If the deal is 5 years and anymore than $70M I'd say let him walk and take the 2 comp picks if you can't find a good enough trade. With the team's financial constraints the way that they are, it's not a great idea to have .30% of your payroll tied up in 2 players (Mark, Paul). If the deal is as reported today, 4 years, $50-$60M I do that in an absolute heartbeat. I'll also add that if Mark does end up inking a deal for 5 years and close to $80M I'll be happy to have him back. I personally wouldn't sign him to such a deal if I were the GM but as a fan it would be great to have Mark around for the next 5 years.
  12. QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) I dont know if this was posted yet or not, but I don't want to go reading 750+ posts, so here is the link http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2007/06/b...ay_with_wh.html It sounds like this is from a "different" "source" so who knows, but I thought it was interesting none the less That is by far, the best thing I've read all day. So a member of the front office of a team interested in acquiring Buehrle was turned away by KW because they're working on re-signing him.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) I'm not even sure if Pablo is signed through next year or not Figure.It.Out
  14. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) The majority of voters on the Comcast poll say the same thing I'm starting to get that sick feeling in my stomach.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) Because the getting the number 1 pick is not the only way for this team to help them out in the long run, and it shouldn't certainly not be the goal of this team. If this organization wants to turn it around, it's going to take a lot more than a simple pick. If you are rooting for the Sox to lose, you are not a fan of the team. It's as simple as that. You just gave me an opinion masked as a fact. I'll admit that openly rooting for your team to lose isn't a great way to go about it but if someone feels the best way for this team to turn s*** around in the future is to keep losing games now then I don't see how that makes them any less of a fan.
  16. I hope he's shipped out the second they get a decent offer from a team willing to pick up the whole contract.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:21 PM) If that's you're honest thought, you're not a Sox fan. The baseball draft is not like the NFL or NBA draft. Our new scouting director realizes this as well. If he thinks the team losing will help them in the long run then how does that make him a bad fan? He has good intentions. I didn't know there were certain rules you had to follow in order to be a real fan.
  18. Is Boone Logan the best LOOGY in baseball? He's faced 39 left hand hitters this season and a grand total of 9 have reached base, 5 on hits (2 doubles, 3 singles) and 4 via the walk. He has also K'd 10. He induces over twice as many grounders as he does fly balls (2.12) so he's also keeping the ball on the ground and not allowing hitters to lift the ball in the air. So on the year lefties are putting up this line against Boone: .156/.243/.219/.462
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) I'm calling it, 3 run bomb for Crawford. Um, it's Boone Logan. The unhittable one. The living legend.
  20. Well at least Jose has turned this s***ty baseball day into a pretty good one with this. Doesn't this little blurb seem a bit out of place?
  21. So apparently Buehrle told Farmer that he's looking for $14M a year. Seems odd that he'd just mention a fact like that during the broadcast as if it's nothing.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) I had Ed Farmer in my update, which was cancelled out. You can't get more exciting than that. I didn't see anything about Farmer when I changed it, perhaps it just didn't accept yours. It tends to do that.
  23. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Boo, apparently my title wasn't good enough. Mine is much more informative.
  24. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) Tex is under contract/arbitration for 1 more year. He would be a free agent in 2008. Scroll to "T" That's where I get a lot of my information from, they use the same logic I do when determining free agents, service time. I can't find any other source of information for free agents following the 2007 season. Atleast anything that lists Teixiera as a possibility.
