Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
Kalapse replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
With Buehrle gone after this year, Jose on his way out possibly by the break and a the strong possibility of Garland leaving after '08 (if not dealt before then) it would be nice to have some sort of veteran presence in the rotation. Vazquez' contract is pretty damn reasonable considering the production you get from him, it only makes sense to deal him if KW is overwhelmed. And yes, all the teams on Vazquez' no trade list are on the west coast. -
Hilarious

I do find if funny that Rich hill is less than 12 months younger than Buehrle but yeah, the Cubs would never do that deal. Where have all the people calling Pie a bust gone? I seem to remember that being a topic of discussion this past offseason.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Crede for Baldelli....do it now! /semi-green I'd do it, the D-Rays wouldn't but I'd hope the Sox would. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Um, sir, I am unsure who this Jerome Robertson is. Jeriome Robertson, perhaps? And who really spells their name - pronounced jur-ohm - like it's pronounced jare-ee-ohm? I mean, talk about a completely useless and meaningless letter in a name. Sheesh. Oh yeah, and Danks rawkZ My apologies. I really should work on my spelling of s***ty rookie pitchers from 2003, I still have trouble spelling Joaquin.

Maybe severe depression brought on by steroid use? It has been known to happen.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) No offense, but trading for Jones is idotic. He is a below average player. Why not let Ryan Sweeney play the rest of the season in the OF ? What good does acquiring Jones, and watching him hit .260, while we still don't know if a guy like Sweeney can play. He's a 32 year old mid-700 OPS outfielder with minimal speed and defensive ability who has a problem with authoritative personalities and is due $5M next season. On second thought, his .623 OPS this season would fit in perfectly with the rest of the Sox' lineup.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) Pitcher B. Unless pitcher A were the fifth starter and the team was in first place with, say, an 8 game lead. (I might've confused people again. Pitcher B is the superior pitcher--it just seems that his team sucks. Where pitcher A appears to be the lesser pitcher, but have a better team.) Exactly, so what the hell is the point of a pitcher's W/L record if it's so heavily weighted by the other 8 players around him (the team's offense especially)? There are so many other good stats, it's just such a damn shame that so many people decide to use a pitcher's W/L as some sort of barometer of success.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) He was being sarcastic guys. Kalapse has always said he'd take the 3.00 ERA and 12 wins over the 5.50 ERA and 20 wins. I actually like to take it one step further. I'm all for abolishing the W/L record of pitchers altogether. It's a meaningless stat that does nothing but confuse people who don't know what to look for when using statistics to evaluate player performances. f*** Jerome Robertson, seriously. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) That's poor logic too. A pitcher is only as good as the players around him. Obviously some guys are flat out mutants (Johan Santana) but would Mark Buehrle really be 4-4 on the Red Sox or Angels? No. I've got the flu, by the way. I don't really understand any of this so I'll clarify a bit. Who would you rather have? PITCHER A: 8-7 w/ 4.90 ERA, 1.50 WHIP or PITCHER B: 2-8 w/ 3.46 ERA, 1.31 WHIP If someone were going by wins, which people like Hawk Harrelson tend to do, they would probably take player A.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) What about 10 or more hits? 11-8
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Has anybody figured out our record when we get 12 or more hits? 5-1

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) Dummy Baker said if our starting pitching was better we would have a better record. Now I see why this fool is unemployed. I agree with him. Jose Contreras: 5-8 Equivalent: Carlos Silva (MIN) (5-8) Mark Buehrle: 4-4 Equivalent: Brian Bannister (KC) (4-4) John Garland: 4-5 Equivalent: Aaron Cook (COL) (4-5) Javier Vazquez: 3-5 Equivalent: Matt Chico (WAS) (3-5) John Danks: 4-6 Equivalent: Kameron Loe (TEX) (4-6) So the White Sox starting rotation is essentially: 1.)Carlos Silva 2.)Brian Bannister 3.)Aaron Cook 4.)Matt Chico 5.)Kameron Loe Surely the Starting staff could pitch better than this, I mean come on Carlos Silva is not a #1 starter.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) What are they supossed to do, hang their head after every win because of how bad this season has gone? The overdone celebration was basically sarcasm by our entire coaching staff, and I can't blame them for trying to have some fun in an otherwise very s***ty situation. It's embarrassing that the season has come to this.
-
So is anyone even going to bother making a winner thread?
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) Guillen and the coaching staff looked like they just won the Series. Awesome. That was pretty embarrassing. A win over the Devil Rays should be a given.
-
Haha, he confused Dioner Navarro for Greg Norton. f***, losing streak ends.
-
S***. I think they're going to win this one.
-
So what does Ozzie do during the games now-a-days? I remember back in the day when Ozzie would run out on to the field and chew an ump out when he was giving Sox players a s***ty zone. As a matter of fact I seem to remember most good to great managers doing the same. I don't think Ozzie has been ejected even once this season for arguing balls and strikes.

Dear god Thome's having a terrible night.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) He possibly coulda hit maybe one!! He can barely throw a baseball, I doubt he can really turn on pitch with much authority.

Seattle or Arizona Interested in Buehrle?

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:36 PM) Like Reggie Willits? yeah hes a real non prospect. he was a sept call up last season at age 25 he had 45 abs. same goes for hafner in 02 at age 25 he had 63abs for the rangers, the next season he was sent down to AAA Buffalo for a bit before being called up at age 26. How many starting pitchers do you see get their first full time, major league starting experience (as in, starting more than 5 games in a season) in their age 27 season and go on to be successful? I'm curious because I doubt there are many pitching today. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) I understand Gonzo isn't a RF, or real OF for that matter, but why does everyone on this team throw flat footed? I was at the game yesterday, but heard the stat after that Soriano has 9 OF assists already. How many does the Sox OF have this season? I about shat myself on Sunday when Terrero got behind a fly ball, ran through the ball on the catch and got off a brilliant throw from right centerfield hitting the cutoff man on a fly. I don't remember the last time i saw such beautiful fundamentals.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) Send Masset to Charlotte. Promote Gavin Floyd. Guys who can't thrown strikes are killers in the big leagues. As for Hall, his shoulder ain't right. And everybody with any sense runs on him. I would. Pitching Gavin out of the pen would be about the most ridiculously stupid thing they could do with him right about now.
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) I don't have TV coverage, but am I wrong when I say that one of the reasons we signed Hall was becasue he was a good defensive catcher? Or was it his bat we wanted? It's because he can hit lefties and AJ can not, that's pretty much the only reason. It's hard for Hall to throw right now since his shoulder is completely shredded. But it's good that he got some work in at 1B this spring, well worth it.* *stolen line
