Red Sox/White Sox Trade Proposal
Kalapse replied to redandwhite's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Wily Mo Pena is also a free agent after the 2008 season. At least Matt Kemp would be under White Sox control for a minimum of 5 seasons. 2 Comp picks > Pena -
QUOTE(russ99 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) I'd take (a healthy) Erstad or Podsednik over Anderson and his crappy attitude/effort any day of the week. Too bad such a player doesn't exist. Erstad and Podsednik at perpetually injured and pretty much useless at this point in their careers. At least Anderson has some upside/potential unlike either of Erstad or Owens.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Fields future is an everyday LF'er and sub for Crede. Joe needs to be resigned. I don't understand how you can continue to say this when NOBODY knows if Joe will even be capable of playing competitive baseball ever again after his operation. Right now there's still a 50/50 chance that Crede gets non-tendered going into the '08 season. IMO I think there's a reason why Fields has been playing at 3B exclusively. They haven't even tried him in the outfield recently, he's the future at 3B.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) Good night on the trade front, as the Mariners and Mets saw their 5th starters get shelled. Randy Wolf got his ass handed to him today by the Braves. So your daily Buehrle/Contreras possible suitor update: Randy Wolf (LAD): 3 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 K Jason Vargas (NYM): 3.1 IP, 11 H, 9 ER, 2 BB, 2 K Wellemeyer (STL): 3 IP, 7H, 4 ER(6R), 1 BB, 0 K Feierabend (SEA): 1.1 IP, 8 H, 10 ER, 2 BB, 0 It's a great night on the trade front.

"Vazquez has great stuff, not electric stuff but he's crafty." Ok Chuck.
-
He retired the final 16 batters he faced and lowered his ERA to 3.70 with the gem he threw tonight.
-
Javy's ERA is down to 3.74, good for 15th in the AL amongst pitchers who have started at least 15 games this season.
-
Javier Vazquez, you are ridiculous! 7 K's today. He has retired the last 13 hitters he's faced.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) I don't know many teams that can get a "Jenks/Rivera/Hoffman/KRod in relatively short notice." These guys don't grow on trees. Plus, usually when a team gets one, he comes from within the system. When is the last time a big name closer was dealt? When is the last time, besides Jenks, the Sox developed a pitcher within their system that had closer type stuff? (And Jenks didn't even come from our system.) Keep Jenks. Closers stick around with teams for a long time for a reason. Good ones aren't easy to find. They also tend to burn out real quick. How many closers from 2002 are still closing out games today? I'd say Jenks has a much better chance at being the next Billy Koch than the next Troy Percival.

Non-All-Stars participate in the Derby all the time.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) So it doesn't matter when he comes into a tie game and blows the lead? What about ERA? I would love to know Bobby's ERA when he came into a tie game during that time period. If you go just by save % Joe Borowski is considered a top closer. It depends on what your definition of "top" is. Ranking 13th out of 19 sounds pretty damn mediocre to me. He's in the bottom 40 percentile.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) you'll be sorry. After tonight, Jenks has allowed a total of 5 extra-base hit in his career with the game tied. 2 doubles in '05, 3 two baggers in '06 and no X-base hits this year. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:43 AM) held the lead in a tie game? Haha, good catch. Fixed.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) I would love to know Bobby's ERA when he comes into a tie game. Last season, pre ASB he entered a tied game 5 times and all 5 times he held the opponent scoreless. Post ASB however he entered 2 tie games and allowed 2 runs in 1 of them and 1 run in the other. This season he's entered tied games 4 times, he held the opponent scoreless in the first 2 but gave up a run in one of the games of the Astros series and again in the Cubs series. In '05 he entered 5 tie games and gave up a run only once. So he's held the opponent scoreless in 11 of the 16 tied games he's entered over the course of his career. And for comparison's sake Francisco Rodriguez entered 10 tied games last year and held the opponent scoreless in 7 of them. This season he's 2 for 4 (same as Bobby). So K-Rod is 9 for 14 over the past two seasons. Past 2 seasons: Jenks: 7 for 11 = 63.64% K-Rod: 9 for 14 = 64.29%

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) Actually, I would say that Bobby is one of the best "closers" in the game. You put him in a save situation and for the most part he gets it done. Kal, you're usually all over this stuff so where does his save percentage rank the last 2 seasons compared to others? Saito: 46/49 | 93.88% Nathan: 52/56 | 92.86% K-Rod: 71/77 | 92.20% Hoffman: 69/76 | 90.78% Wagner: 56/62 | 90.32% Jenks: 63/70 | 90% Rivera: 44/49 | 89.80% Putz: 59/66 | 89.39% Papelbon: 54/61 | 88.52% Valverde: 44/51 | 86.27% T. Jones: 57/67 | 85.07% Ray: 47/56 | 83.93% Borowski: 60/72 | 83.33% C. Cordero: 43/53 | 81.13% Fuentes: 50/62 | 80.65% Isringhausen: 48/60 | 80% Dempster: 40/51 | 78.43% Street: 46/59 | 77.97% F. Cordero: 49/63 | 77.78% *IN ORDER TO QUALIFY: Must have had at least 45 SVO since beginning of 2006

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) I dunno. Is it proper to use the entire line? To type all the way to the end? It seemed to me it was better to shorten the sentence and stack the sentences. I actually kind of like the stacked sentence approach.

QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) I'm just wondering why you went with "Buckwheat," when "Suckvich" is so obviously the better name.... Personally, I like "Buttb****".

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) It's much easier for a 90 win team to attract quality free agents than it is for a 56 win team to do so. You have to be willing to give out big contracts and no trade clauses in order to sign big time free agents as well. Who is available this offseason that won't want to come here because of one 106 loss season? It didn't stop Soriano, Lilly, Marquis or Derosa from signing with an epically s***ty team this past offseason. If you offer the money and show the players you're trying to build a winner, they will sign.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) OMG HE BLEW A SAVE, HE MUST BE TRADED. Some of you people have no concept of reality. If you want to trade him because he has a ton of value and you are worried about injury risk sure. But to say that he is a bad pitcher, or bad closer is stupid at best. Definitely agree with you on this one. You'd think some people had never seen a blown save before. I'm personally all for dealing him if the right offer comes along.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) I'll continue to say that's an absolutely idiotic thing to say. And I'll continue to agree with you. I personally love the $96M payroll. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) If Buckvich was sent down, who would come up? Probably Carlos Vasquez. Though he is a lefty. There are no good righties at Charlotte unless you want to put Broadway in the pen.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Maybe you're just watching the wrong games because out of 35 games pitched this year he's allowed multiple hits in only 8 of them. And he's still throwing 94 MPH, to say he has no velocity is ridiculous. He just doesn't have that good 98-100 MPH heat anymore which made his straight fastball a whole lot more effective. Even with his diminished ability he's still incredibly effective. For a comparison. K-Rod has pitched in 35 games this year as well and has allowed multiple hits in 9 of them. Also K-Rod has allowed multiple walks in 3 games this year while Jenks has only done it once.
-
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) On what are you basing that statement? He has no velocity anymore and really doesn't have much to go with. Everytime I see him on the mound he's giving up a lot of hits. Maybe you're just watching the wrong games because out of 35 games pitched this year he's allowed multiple hits in only 8 of them. And he's still throwing 94 MPH, to say he has no velocity is ridiculous. He just doesn't have that good 98-100 MPH heat anymore which made his straight fastball a whole lot more effective. Even with his diminished ability he's still incredibly effective.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) I agree but he has a history of not being good in the second of back to back games This season he's pitched in back to back games 10 times. Out of the 10 second games pitched, he's had 2 bad outings.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Why? He's worse than Erstad. A real 4th OF with legitimate speed and base running ability.
-
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) Bukvich and Jenks turn it into a clusterf*** (BTW, I've not been a Jenks fan since he pretty much lost his velocity and effectiveness. The fact he's now an "All-Star" actually makes me chuckle a bit). Jenks has still been incredibly effective this year even without the good gas. To state otherwise is just plain wrong.
