QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) I wasn't sure that dog was gonna come up when it first jumped in the water. I never had a problem with Byrnes, like some people. He has a very overwhelming personality. I'm pretty sure I dislike him, the dog was clouding my judgment.

If Corey Patterson weren't a Boras client I'd fully expect him to be leading off for the Sox next season. Oh what a disaster that would be.
-
So if the Sox standpat where the hell is the new leadoff hitter coming from? Another year of Podsednik I assume.

*Burger King Hot Zone shows up on screen* "As you're looking at the Burger Zone." - Tim McCarver I don't know if I hate Eric Byrnes or if I love him. Ichiro is remarkable.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 07:18 PM) Wow. Good for him. I thought he should have come north with the team this spring for the bullpen. What is KW up to? After the All-Star break, the rotation could be Buehrle, Danks, Haeger, Gio, Pelfrey. If there is such a thing as an exciting GM, KW is it. Can't you just feel that something will be announced tomorrow? This means that after Floyd was sent down, the team he was trading a pitcher to realized that KW was not bluffing and met his demands. One of the starters must have been traded. Since Gavin had been sent down already, Haeger was brought up to fill the void. That's my attempt at figuring out KW's genius. I'll guess Garland is a Dodger and Kemp and Billingsley are on their way. If I'm right, I'll play the lotto this weekend. Haeger's probably just being called up to pitch out of the pen. The rotation will be Garland, Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras, Danks. No trades will be made. I'm almost positive this is the case.

Mariners looking to lock up Ichiro long-term

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) I have this odd feeling that Kenny is going to acquire Andruw Jones by Sunday.... That would be f***ing retarded on like 12 different levels. And I would rather have had Mathews Jr. last offseason than Byrnes this offseason. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) I gave up any hope on Ichiro when he had negative things to say about the weather in Cleveland. At least this will stop people from saying we need to keep Iguchi around in order to attract Ichiro. This changes nothing. Now we need to keep Iguchi around in order to attract Fukodome. -
The phrase "try and" really pisses me off. It makes absolutely NO sense and EVERYONE uses it. "I'm gonna try and loosen the screw." NO! "I'm going to try to loosen the screw." QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I always spell "eigher" which annoys the hell out of Kalapse. Which of these two sentences 1.) makes logical sense 2.) do you hear more often. "I like chocolate better than vanilla." "I like chocolate more than vanilla." How the hell do you like something "better" than something else.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) I guess there is a possibility Aaron would sign for something like 6/18, but I'm not seeing it. He's having a nice year offensively, there is the perception that he is nearly unmatched defensively, and he has a very solid image as a "team player" and all that nonsense. I think he's going to want more than 3 years, and I think he's going to be looking in the 8-9 million range. Just my humble opinion though. If he's looking for any more than $6M a year for 3 (maybe 4) years then hopefully he'll be playing elsewhere next season. I want nothing to do with a $26M+ Aaron Rowand.
-
I have no problem with Rowand being signed at 3 years, $15-$18M but there needs to be another very productive RF brought in as well. Rowand alone isn't nearly enough.

Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) WTF?!?!? are you serious? Colin is the best radio guy I've heard in probably ever. Funny, Smart, Realistic, and doesn't do the "ESPN says we should talk about this ALL DAY LONG, so that's what we're going to talk about all day long" like Mike and Mike and Dan P. It's SO refreshing. He's quite possibly the least knowledgeable radio personality I have ever heard. He's also a complete asshole who should have been fired long ago. I don't know how anyone who knows anything about any sport could stand that guy. He's completely clueless. -
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) There have been rumors that the Red Sox are targeting Ichiro in the offseason, and with the money they can throw at him, and their current success, I think they will be hard to beat. They already have Manny and Drew in the outfield, neither is going anywhere. Crisp will be replaced which opens up CF. Ichiro, Hunter, Fukodome and Ellsbury are all possibilities to fill the role. The Red Sox can only sign one of them making the other 3 available for the Sox to target. A few other notes: 1.) I'm not giving Rowand any more than $5-$6M (TOPS), he's pretty much a league average hitter with very good defense and an iffy arm, that's a $6M player. 2.) Iguchi's defense has gotten to a sub-Soriano point this season, he's possibly the worst in baseball. I can only imagine how terrible he'll be in the field when he's 34 or 35. Scary. I love the guy too but I really don't want to see him at 2B for the next 3 years.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) He is not overrated as much as people do not realize his limitations. When rowand fails to reach the unrealistic goals set for him i can't bash the guy. Always has done his job on defense... only knock i have ever had on him defensively is how he charges a ball and how inaccurate he has been with his throws in the past. Offensively he is really nothing more than league average.. one positive is he is only four walks away from his career high in 70 less games. He is the best centerfielder the sox have had in a long time. End of story. Do you think he's the reason why the Sox didn't repeat last season?

QUOTE(max power @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) I don't even know what that means is one reason. Someone else was complaining to me about the costs and blah blah on behalf of the owners of this site, I thought it could be something to consider. NorthSideBaseball.com (Cubs site) has a "Premium Membership" service. It was a joke. I don't really think you're a Commie though if you are, that's cool too.
-
QUOTE(max power @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) Haha, ok. I'd like to make a suggestion to the owners of the site. Have some kind of premium membership where long time/generous users can donate through paypal at a very reasonable cost to help support the site. They would receive some benefit . . . not sure what though Why don't you just go join NSBB you f***ing Commie!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) I agree. I meant will another GM throw a lot of loot at him? If he has a healthy and productive '08 season? Yes.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) What if he has a very good, injury free 08, would you do it? No but I would deal him at the deadline. Fields is the future at 3B.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) For some reason, you've listed Andy Gonzalez as an outfielder. He's played 11 innings in the infield and over 150 in the outfield.

Scary big and guaranteed to be twice as confusing as past versions. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2804/so...ctsheetubx9.jpg I'm sure there's more than a few errors in the sheet so let me know if there's anything that doesn't look right.

Javy Vazquez.....now what do we do??
Kalapse replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) KW, just yesterday, committed to retooling instead of rebuilding. If he trades Javy or Jon then he is essentially changing his mind again and looking at rebuilding. He has to trade Contreras obviously. He's worth nowhere near $10M. The other pitchers are all worth their contracts and are arguably worth more than their contracts. There's no way you deal any of them. With KW's failure this past offseason in filling the LF, CF, SS, and BP holes, there's no way, imo, we're going to contend next season. Now he's looking at having to fill all of the above plus 2B, 3B, and RF. I mean the only positions he's really got locked up with good talent are 4/5 of the rotation, 1B, and C. Looking at it from that perspective then, yes, Javy and Jon would both be traded to fill some of those holes. But now we're trying to "re-tool" again. This is a real mess and it all goes back to this past offseason. Buehrle, Garland and Vazquez = $37.5M for 2008 Buehrle, Glarland, Vazquez, Konerko, Thome = $58M for 2008 Buehrle, Garland and Vazquez = $40M for 2009 and beyond. Buehrle, Garland, Vazquez and Konerko = $52M for 2009 and beyond I guess if the Sox are willing to go to a $115-$120M payroll in the near future, things could work out because I don't know where any cheap alternatives at other positions are going to come from considering the Sox' lack of position prospects and trading chips. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) What about Michael Bourn? Seems to be just what Ozzie would want. Bourne is more of a project than anything. He has some tools, he's insanely fast and learning every day but he's not exactly ready to be taking over top of the order duties on a contending team from what I've seen.
