  1. This just keeps getting better. That will buy Contreras another hitter.
  2. Maybe Ozzie would rather be fired than quit.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) Probably trying to be a stubborn asshole and it's his way of showing KW that he hates his bullpen. Meanwhile, this does nothing but hurt our organization. A homer here, and you could realistically say he would have allowed 10 runs today. 11 actually. Remember since Manny got thrown out at the plate the Red Sox got screwed out of 2 runs since Drew would have knocked in himself on the HR. Wow, Contreras wants to stay. f***ing great.
  4. Horray, we're gonna see Wasserman! 4 batters too late but we're gonna see him none the less.
  5. Wow, get your ass out there Ozzie. Contreras is beyond done.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Because we have a game thread for this and with the site problems, I doubt the site needs a thread as useless as this one. We all know it was a huge f*ck up. Believe me, it's not getting closed.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Between this game and that Royals game a few weeks back, we've really hurt any chance we had to free up 20 million for the worst pitcher in baseball, in terms of losses, since the ASB last year. 7/14/06 - 7/15/07: 9-20, 5.35 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 5.6 K/9
  8. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) I believe someone asked what his last name was and it was provided. Jim Thome : Frank Thomas :: Javier Vazquez : Chris Young
  9. According to the Score, KW is interested in Wily Mo. ugh
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:46 AM) We've got to add Hunter. We should have signed Soriano last offseason. He would have looked good in a Sox uniform. You wouldn't be saying this in years 5, 6, 7 and 8 of that $140M+ (you have to outbid the Cubs) deal. Soriano would mean no Buehrle and having that albatross of a deal on the books for the next 8 seasons would make it pretty damn impossible for the Sox to the other 18 or so holes they currently have.
  11. The fuse has been lit since the break. 4-4 thus far.
  12. He reminds me of post 2004 Juan Pierre with lesser base stealing abilities.
  13. Jerry Owens has gone 107 PA without an extra base hit. He has 25 hits this season, 23 of them have been singles. The two doubles he does have came in his first 5 ABs of the season, not a one since then.
  14. $$$ That's why He's putting up a .312/.369/.497/.866 line (all career highs) w/ 23 SB in his age 31 season. Byrnes can play CF and give you some damn good defense as well. Gary Matthews put up a .313/.371/.495/.866 line (all career highs) w/ 10 SB in his age 31 season. Considered one of the best defensive CF in the game. Matthews got 5 years, $50M last offseason. Now tell me, what will Eric Byrnes get this offseason?
  15. Wily Mo is also a free agent after the 2008 season.
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) And paying Jason Kendall half his salary elsewhere is a good move? Not to mention send Ramirez to the Cubs for virtually nothing. The Pirates only ate $5.5M of the $34.4M remaining on Kendall's deal, (they didn't include any money for the '05 or '06 seasons) that's hardly anything at all. Not to mention the fact that they got a league average lefty starter and a seemingly reliable lefty reliever in return for Kendall and $5.5M. And trading away Ramirez 4 years ago for Bobby Hill doesn't make Littlefield any more likely to give away Wilson for nothing and eat half his contract today.
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) That would be the ONLY way it happens. Dave Littlefield may be a bad GM but he's not retarded.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) I would disagree. He is an upgrade in the sense that herpes in remission is better than herpes. Unless the Pirates are eating half his current contract and the Sox are giving nothing up in return I don't see how it could be called an upgrade at all. I don't see either of those things happening let alone even one of them. They're both terrible hitters and good defensively except one of them is guaranteed over $14M over the next 2 seasons and would have to be acquired, meaning you're giving up talent in order to acquire his mediocre ass.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) Maybe they just want someone not named Juan Uribe, but overall Jack Wilson really isn't that much different. He's a weak offensive shortstop who is a pretty damn good fielder. Both are set to make similar money. Wilson is going to be paid substantially more than Uribe over the next 2 seasons ('08 &'09). I highly doubt KW has any interest in him.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) I really, really dislike the idea of giving Rowand what his market value will be after this season. He currently has the highest OPS of any CF in the game (.934). Aaron could cash in big time this offseason with a deal even higher than what Gary Matthews Jr. pulled in last offseason (5 years, $50M). They're similar defensively, putting up similar offensive numbers (Rowand's are better) and Aaron is 3 years younger. It would be a real shame if the Sox ended up paying the full one year wonder price for a guy who has spent most of his career being a pretty average ballplayer.
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) If you take the time to go back a few pages, I bashed Jack Wilson too. My point is that anything is an upgrade on Uribe, even a .250 hitter that plugs the gap until he get something better. Jack Wilson is not an upgrade from Juan Uribe.
  22. For the Season: .271/.366/.514/.880 Since April 23rd: .294/.381/.569/.950 (73 G) 18 2B, 18 HR, 39 BB, 46 SO Since May 19th: .333/.427/.650/1.077 (52 G) 16 2B, 14 HR, 31 BB, 29 SO Since June 4th: .343/.442/.701/1.143 (39 G) 13 2B, 12 HR, 25 BB, 21 SO Since July 1st: .377/.484/.830/1.314 (15 G) 9 2B, 5 HR, 11 BB, 8 SO Now add another HR and these numbers look even more remarkable.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) Bump I am kind of hoping Uribe finishes the season below .200 so KW is almost forced to replace him. I wonder if we can get the Pirates to eat some of Jack Wilson's salary. Hell they are paying Kendall for hit .220 for the Cubs. Wilson and Uribe are pretty much the same damn player, why replace one problem with another? I'd rather just sign John McDonald in the offseason live with the horrid offense but get some great defense for 1/10 of the price of a Wilson or Uribe.
