  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Just wanted to say that Paul Konerko is awesome right now....that contract he signed is such a waste. Some good Konerko numbers coming into today: For the Season: .271/.366/.514/.880 Since April 23rd: .294/.381/.569/.950 (73 G) 18 2B, 18 HR, 39 BB, 46 SO Since May 19th: .333/.427/.650/1.077 (52 G) 16 2B, 14 HR, 31 BB, 29 SO Since June 4th: .343/.442/.701/1.143 (39 G) 13 2B, 12 HR, 25 BB, 21 SO Since July 1st: .377/.484/.830/1.314 (15 G) 9 2B, 5 HR, 11 BB, 8 SO Now add another HR and these numbers look even more remarkable.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 17, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) The Quentin fascination amazes me a bit. He's been absolutely terrible. Like, Brian Anderson bad. He's got tools, but there is a reason they want to deal him. He didn't have a hit all of July and they sent him back down. The only thing I like about him is that his birthday is a day after mine. But then again, I'd take him in an instant if all we had to give up was Contreras. He had 9 ABs in July so lets not act like that actually means anything. He's still only 24 and has those ridiculous tools, last year in limited ABs (166) he had 9 HR, 13 2B and put up a .253/.342/.530/.872 line. That's pretty damn good for a 23 year old. He also attended KW/Borchard's alma mater which can't hurt.

  4. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Sox should try to work something out for Kolb and or Chacon...both would be better than some of these stiffs they are running out there as of now. The Pirates actually released Dan Kolb last week.
  5. Moving Javy or Mark into a middle relief role for the stretch run is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read on here this season. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) His use of Logan lately has been disappointing. He still has no clue what LOOGY stands for.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) how many players can say they played in 163 games in one season? 28 including Greg Walker and Billy Williams did it 3 times (he also had a 164 GP season.) QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) More than you'd think. Happens all the time when players are traded mid-season. Actually you're wrong. A player has played in 163+ games in a single season with more than one team a grand total of 3 times in the history of the game. Todd Zeile ('96), Willie Montanez ('76) and Frank Taveras ('79) but he actually played in 164 games.
  7. Brian Sabean's incompetent ass got an extension today. What a joke.
  8. Times the Sox have been Shutout by Opponent since 1990: '07: 8 (through 88 games) '06: 6 '05: 7 '04: 8 '03: 8 '02: 7 '01: 4 '00: 3 '99: 7 '98: 9 '97: 8 '96: 2 '95: 6 (144 games) '94: 2 (113 games) '93: 14 '92: 11 '91: 12 '90: 7 So yeah, not good. Andy Gonzalez will be leading off on opening day next season.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) Don't know if anyone heard this on the radio today, but a reporter said a certain player has been a distraction in the clubhouse all year due to the uncertainty of his contract. Ryan Bukvich?
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) By my calculations, if this score holds up, we'll be 3-10 this year when Hall started. Coming into today's game: Team Record in Appearances: 3-11 / in Starts: 3-9
  11. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) No, Hunter will get paid based on what Ichiro gets more so than Hafner. Andruw Jones will have more of an effect on Hunter's next contract than any other player out there.
  12. I'd do Morales and Stewart straight up for Garland
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) Heh. ESPN2 needs to check their info I think. According to MILB, the Barons' site and his college, I got his name spelled correctly. Wait... why was he on ESPN2? AAA All-Star Game
  14. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) I don't think that it would take that much because i don't think Pitt. wants to pay Bay's salary in the next couple of years. Pitt. has lots of young pitching. The problem is the matchup because the Sox don't have much of anything else to offer. But, I would think that Anderson would be part of the package. I was thinking Anderson, Mackowiack and 2 bullpen guys. I think that would be worth it for the Sox. The Pirates are going to get very good young talent in exchange for Bay if they decide to deal him (which they won't IMO). They haven't given away a player since Ramirez like 4 years ago. If you're not offering up some excellent young players, you're not going to get Bay. Rob Mackowiak is going to make only 1-2 million less than Bay next year and is no where near as talented, your proposal is pretty ridiculous.
  15. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) Luckaly Bedard is.. how can I put it... not himself when he faces us. For once we are good against a real good pitcher. Except for last year when he went 8, K'd 7, walked 1 and allowed a single run.
  16. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) i remember when someone on here, cant remember who...about 2 weeks ago said boone logan was one of the best relievers in teh game lol When used properly. He was not used properly today.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) I know you're being semi-sarcastic, but all he had to do was NOT give up a home run. He's a LOOGY, he shouldn't be facing righties. They hit him incredibly hard. I fear Boone will never be used properly. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) it's great to see the offense coming around. save for bedard, guthrie was the best starting pitcher we are going to face this series. i can't wait to see our offense in action the days Vazquez (game 3) and Danks (game 4) pitch. Bedard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Guthrie
  18. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the game. Maybe Ozzie figured all Boone needed was one more out?? That's the sort of thinking that loses ballgames. I'm beginning to think Boone Logan is too powerful of a weapon for Ozzie to handle.
  19. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Millar. Why would the LOOGY Boone Logan being facing a righy in Kevin Millar?
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) My god, we get off to a great start, the bullpen comes in and is absolutely s***ty. My god, this is why I think we'll never go on a big run. Not with this bullpen at least. Even Boone Logan gave up a bomb. I didn't see the game. Who hit the HR off Boone?
  21. You speak of raiding the Pirates for talent as other teams have been doing. What trades do you speak of? These are all the trades Dave Littlefield has made since dumping Ramirez: Traded Brandon Lyon, Jeff Suppan, and Anastacio Martinez to the Boston Red Sox. Received Mike Gonzalez, Freddy Sanchez, and cash. Traded Randall Simon to the Chicago Cubs. Received Ray Sadler. Traded Brian Giles to the San Diego Padres. Received a player to be named later, Jason Bay, and Oliver Perez. The San Diego Padres sent Corey Stewart (minors) (October 2, 2003) to the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the trade. Traded Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger to the New York Mets. Received Jose Bautista, Ty Wigginton, and Matt Peterson (minors). Traded J.J. Davis to the Washington Nationals. Received Antonio Sucre (minors). Traded Jason Kendall and cash to the Oakland Athletics. Received Mark Redman, Arthur Rhodes, and cash. Traded Arthur Rhodes to the Cleveland Indians. Received Matt Lawton. Traded Leo Nunez to the Kansas City Royals. Received Benito Santiago and cash. Traded Dave Ross to the San Diego Padres. Received J.J. Furmaniak. Traded Matt Lawton to the Chicago Cubs. Received Jody Gerut and cash. Traded Bobby Hill to the San Diego Padres. Received a player to be named later. The San Diego Padres sent Clayton Hamilton (minors) (December 8, 2005) to the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the trade. Traded Mark Redman to the Kansas City Royals. Received Jonah Bayliss and Chad Blackwell (minors). Traded Dave Williams to the Cincinnati Reds. Received Sean Casey and cash. Traded Rob Mackowiak to the Chicago White Sox. Received Damaso Marte. Traded Craig Wilson to the New York Yankees. Received Shawn Chacon. Traded Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez to the New York Mets. Received Xavier Nady. Traded Sean Casey to the Detroit Tigers. Received Brian Rogers. Traded Kip Wells to the Texas Rangers. Received Jesse Chavez (minors). Acquired 1B Adam LaRoche and Minor League OF Jamie Romak from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for LHP Mike Gonzalez and Minor League SS Brent Lillibridge. Now how many of those deals would you call fleecings?
  22. Bay is still under their control for the next 2 seasons at a very reasonable price. He's pretty much the only reason people go to Pirates games, it would make no sense to deal him now.
  23. Jon Garland could very well bring us that young, studly position prospect you so desperately seek. Of course, so could a 62-100 record this season.
  24. I do remember the news of Haeger's promotion last year originated from a low post count member with ties to Charlie several hours before it was announced. I buy it.
  25. Eric Byrnes will be 32 in February. I doubt most people even realize he's that old.
