July 14, 200718 yr Dye struck out in 2 key situations in the 7th and 9th. Sox shut out for 8th time. 2-0 . Edited July 14, 200718 yr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
July 14, 200718 yr Hawk b****ing about the umpire was pretty comical especially when the Sox are taking strike 3 right down the heart of the plate. Can someone please explain to me again why Andy Gonzalez leads off? He isn't a basestealling threat. He doesn't get on base that much. He doesn't make a lot of contact............its ridiculous he's leading off. Its probably ridiculous he's in the major leagues no matter how much Hawk and DJ gush over his abilities.

Yep, we either see Jerry Owens or Andy Gonzalez lead off. How pathetic is that?
July 14, 200718 yr QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) Yep, we either see Jerry Owens or Andy Gonzalez lead off. How pathetic is that? It also appears reality has hit Terrero right between the eyes. I wouldn't be excited about any of these 3 if I lived in Charlotte and had season tickets for the Knights. July 14, 200718 yr Times the Sox have been Shutout by Opponent since 1990: '07: 8 (through 88 games) '06: 6 '05: 7 '04: 8 '03: 8 '02: 7 '01: 4 '00: 3 '99: 7 '98: 9 '97: 8 '96: 2 '95: 6 (144 games) '94: 2 (113 games) '93: 14 '92: 11 '91: 12 '90: 7 So yeah, not good. Andy Gonzalez will be leading off on opening day next season.

The shutout total is bound to increase at some point during this stretch.
July 14, 200718 yr Back to the dumpster. Anemic offense. By the way, who do you want to lead off? Just asking. It's a shame the Sox are wasting such good starting pitching.
July 14, 200718 yr If Dye plays how about batting him 8th? They walked Konerko to get to him-get ready to see lots of that. And I'm guessing Thome is hurt-see him go from first to third? Barely?
July 14, 200718 yr Dye was awful. Otoh, Bedard is pretty amazing. I mean, I'm not gonna just 'tip my cap' to, say, JP Howell -- but Bedard is a great pitcher. Dye had a cookie, he obviously should have swung. But it was a wonderful paint job on Fields. Still, what an awful lineup. God, Terrero looked hopeless. When the Sox say they're hoping for a 2nd half push, who do they think they're fooling? If I saw it on this board, I'd chalk it up as sarcasm immediately.
July 14, 200718 yr QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) By the way, who do you want to lead off? Mackowiak is by far the best option right now, although with the lefty on the bump tonight that wouldn't be so easy to do. Buehrle 6-5 with a 2.95 ERA?? What an embarassment that an AL pitcher can have a sub 3 ERA and be 6-5. Pathetic.
July 14, 200718 yr Mack might be OK. As long as I don't watch the game. I don't think I've ever seen that guy nail a base hit during games I get to see here. I realize he got four hits in a game versus the Twins and had a good game the other night.
July 14, 200718 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Buehrle's ERA now sub-3. Yay. MBINAA Four more years, Four more years! Edited July 14, 200718 yr by Big Hurtin
July 14, 200718 yr I agree with Mack as leadoff. Did anybody catch the Saturday Twins/Sox game here on FOX? With Ryne Sandberg in the booth? He had some interesting things to say about Terrero: big, strong guy; multi-tool player, lots of potential. Problem was, he all but said that Terrero was the definition of a guy who looks good ability-wise but will never be able to put it together and be a great player. I guess he knew him from Arizona. We seem to have a gift for acquiring players that are all potential but never realize it (hello, AAAnderson). What's so frustrating is that the starters have been great this year; Vasquez is proving his worth, Danks was a lucky find (okay Contreras is on his last legs)... but our offense and bullpen keep screwing them.

But it is what it is, the starters are the one strong suit to this team. Everything else needs to be mega-retooled. I've been a fan for 20 years and this is by far the worst bullpen and outfield i have every seen on the Sox.
