Why does Hall even bother throwing the ball down to second?
-
Seattle or Arizona Interested in Buehrle?
Kalapse replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) like ryan howard Ryan Howard had a cup of coffee at age 24, won Rookie Year at age 25, MVP at 26 and is currently 27. Nippert's age 27 season will be his first as a full time starter. That's scary and you rarely ever see it. -
I smell a groundball to short here. HEY! He got it passed him. Super.
-
Does this mean Andy Gonzalez will be the starting 2B next season?
-
At least it appears he's going to make it through the 5th inning today. I suppose that's an improvement.
-
It's especially odd since Stone has said in the past that Grady is the best young player in the game. I suppose he was simply trying to say that the Indians would be willing to trade away a piece of their outstanding offense in order to fill a glaring need at closer since they're pretty damn close to a World Series caliber team right now even with a putrid backend of the bullpen.

Do you suppose DJ is embarrassed reading the SEND YOUR FAVORITE WHITE SOX PLAYERS TO THE ALL STAR GAME copy?

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) a guy that will get you 600 quality ABs as a leadoff hitter and had the most extra base hits in the majors last year for a fat pitcher who throws 1 inning in 60 games a year? yeah sign me up please I'd stick him in the 3 hole and find my leadoff hitter elsewhere.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) nice post Kalapse; you basically put all my thoughts together except with out the spelling mistakes. our division is only going to get better. I'll always love jenks for what he did in '05 but if we're not contending for 2 possibly 3 years, who is to say his arm and velocity will remain constant. Move him now kenny and rape someones farm, possibly the bosox. Mark and Bobby = farm system. Jenks and Papelbon are a very nice 1-2 punch going for the next couple of seasons. You could probably get better value from a team that's desperate for a closer as opposed to one that already has the best young closer in the game. There are a whole lot of teams out there right now dieing for a closer and willing to make a desperate grab at someone like Jenks, I truly hope KW is willing to deal him.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) As much as people bash Thome against LHP, and he is bad, Frank has been terrible against RHP. Even with all the lefties in the AL Central, a player will still have 2/3 of his at bats against RHP. Frank is just too much of a health risk and because this isn't fantasy baseball, we can't have a Thome/Frank platoon at DH (although it would be awesome. ) Lets get all hypothetical and s*** shall we? Lets just say the Sox were able to sign Thomas this past offeason, were currently platooning he and Thome at DH and they were putting up the exact same numbers against RHP/LHP as they are now. You'd have the deadliest platoon in baseball: 135 AB, 8 2B, 11 HR, 49 BB, 31 SO, .326/.500/.630/1.130 Un-f***ing-stoppable

There's the good stuff.

F***. I prefer futility.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) I'd carry Jenks to the airport. Hell, I'll give him a piggy back ride to Cleveland. I'd carry him the second half of the way there. If Jenks has as much trade value as Stone lets on then I'd be 100% for moving him before the season is through.

QUOTE(Phil @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) I don't know how much you've seen of Crisp but he's been playing gold glove level defense for Boston this year. While he has struggled with the bat he has recently shown signs of turning it around. His OBP for June is around 350. .333 which is still beyond mediocre. Perhaps his defense has picked up some this season, I've only seen about 12 Red Sox games in their entirety this year which isn't enough of a sample size but from what I saw of him as an Indian as well as last season as a member of the Red Sox I wouldn't want him starting in CF for my team. Anyway, welcome to the board.

You mean 1B - Thome (35 games), DL - Thome (127 games), DH - Thomas. Right? The guy is not an everyday 1B anymore and Konerko is a better bet to produce consistently from 2006 on than Frank Thomas. The only difference between Paul Konerko and Frank Thomas' 2007 numbers right now is Thomas' 10 extra walks and 4 extra HBP. That's it. Same amount of HR, same batting average, same SLG.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:57 PM) s***...I'd be stoked with Wood and Adenhart. Both are high upside but neither is guaranteed success (than again who is). I know it sounds like a lot but Wood, Adenhart, Arredondo and Conger would be my asking price and I would not budge from it. It would give you 2 huge upside replacements for both Thome and Buehrle as well as add 2 very young, unproven incredibly talented players to the system as well.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) I really should start picking up whatever pitcher faces the Sox on my fantasy team. Every so often they'll get the s*** bombed out of them but every so often isn't that often. There's a reason why I'm in first place in Soxtalk Leagues 1 and 4.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Would Earvin Santana and Brandon Wood meet that description (albeit Wood's status has dropped off a bit). Or maybe Howie Kendrick and prospects? I still really like Brandon Wood even if he has struggled a bit this season, that power potential is still very much there. Wood, Another Young player, Jose Arredondo, and Hank Conger would do it for sure.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:31 PM) They would have been much better off with Wiki Gonzalez's offense, and our catchers throw out runners at about a 10% clip anyway, so it couldn't get much worse than Molina, Owens and Gonzalez for three players in the span of one season on an MLB roster. We have the worst outfield in the history of the "juiced ball" era in baseball. Yeah Owens is actually right there too. In 62 career ABs I'm not sure he hit a single ball hard.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) He's worthless against LHP....Santo = dorf, if you're reading this, what would you think about trading Thome? As Thome's #2 fan on the site I'll answer this question. If someone is willing to give up 2 big time prospects, I mean 1 of them would have to be a major league ready position player with HUGE upside and the other a very highly touted but maybe not quite as polished player as well as an A baller or 2 I'd pull the trigger.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) He hit a solid .240 with no power in Charlotte this season. Don't disrespect. He truly is one of the worst players in the major leagues, and not batting 8th or 9th when he has to play is troubling. I'm still convinced that Gustavo Molina for his 18 career at bats was the worst hitter in the history of baseball and luckily we'll never see him in the majors again. Andy Gonzalez is right there with him though and is possibly the worst in baseball right now. Danks is on his way out of the rotation.
-
Ugh, the one thing Danks can not afford to do is get behind in the count and start walking guys. You really get the feeling Ozzie is starting to tire of Danks and his poor control.
-
I f***ing hate Andy Gonzalez. The fact that he's starting and batting second is a complete f***ing joke, he should be in AA.
-
I think I'm on the side of not re-signing him. I just don't see how Mark Buehrle is any different from some of the other starters who were given 5+ year deals over the years. What kind of injury problems did Mike Hampton, a 27 year old who was considered by many in the game to be the most athletic pitcher in baseball, have before the 2001 season? None. I just don't see how Mark's case is any different from someone like Hampton's. I also don't buy that it would only take 5 guaranteed years to keep him around. He could get 6+ on the open market, easy I don't see why he wouldn't ask for that sort of deal from the Sox.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) Daniels is nearly done. Not sure if he'll make much longer in Texas. His baseball background is incredibly thin. The Danks and Chris Young deals, along with giving up Cordero (and way too much for Lee when the Rangers were dead in the water) to the Brewers, signing Gagne...he's in far over his head. Ricciardi has had VERY mixed results in TOR and should be fired, but will fire his Rambo-esque manager first, DiPodesta was bad in LA and Epstein...well, it's hard to see how good Theo or Cashman would be unless you put them in the position of Dayton Moore in KC or down in Tampa Bay. Hicks just gave Daniels a 1 year extension through 2009 like last week.
