  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) I don't know much about next years draft, but a lot of people here are talking about the SS from Vandy. 5-tool player supposedly, who has a great speed and power combo, and pick it on defense. Pedro Alvarez. He's pretty much the consensus #1 pick at this time.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) A better argument might be that the Phils are at least fun to watch with him. The Sox are now unbearable without him. BTW, I wonder what Damaso's numbers are with the Pirates... Yeah because when I go to a Phillies game the one player I can't wait to see is Aaron Rowand! f*** Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Michael Bourne and Cole Hamels (all of whom are more exciting than ANYONE on the Sox, with the exception of Thome perhaps) there's no entertainment value there. Yeah Aaron Rowand is what makes the Phillies an exciting ballclub. What part of Aaron Rowand's game is fun to watch? If I want to see a guy run into a wall at full speed I'll save the $30 it would cost me to see a Phillies game and go catch Brian Simmons at the Lebanon, PA Home Depot instead.
  3. QUOTE(bkmoney @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:35 PM) yea i dont know that everyone uses the 2 year window thing.. just one example is gary mathews jr. Major League baseball designates a player's compensatory value based on their production the 2 years before they hit free agency. Hence the only reason why Dye will be a Type A free agent.
  4. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) Yep, that could happen, which would suck. However, I don't think there are too many FA's this offseason that would be considered better than Buehrle. More than likely, we'd be getting the 2nd rounder in that type of scenario, unless the team that signs Mark also signs Ichiro. Keep in mind, Buehrle finished below .500 last season with a 5 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. They use a 2 year window to judge free agents so if Mark does finish with a 4+ ERA this season he could fall a bit.
  5. An opposing batter has yet to get a ball out of the infield and only one ball has been lifted in the air.
  6. But lets say the Cardinals finish with one of the 15 worst records in baseball then in the offseason they sign both Mark Buehrle and Torii Hunter. The Sox could end up with a sandwich pick and a 3rd rounder as compensation. EX. The Giants finished with one of the 15 worst records in baseball last year but ended up signing 2 type A free agents in Barry Zito and Dave Roberts this offseason. The A's got the Giants' 2nd rounder and the Padres got their 3rd.
  7. 3 ground balls, 2 ground outs and a K. Nice.
  8. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Jones blows, he should not be a target. THis would make an already bad season worse. Yeah pretty much and the $5M he's due next season would be nothing but a burden.
  9. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 07:16 PM) That makes sense, but with this lineup, we are going to lose a maddening amount of games the rest of THIS season. It is embarrassing. Surely they can figure out a way to dump him after the season. It's Jerry's money anyway and he deserves a 5 mill penalty for this crap we're watching now. The cubs have been trying to dump him for a year now, they attempted to dump him on Colorado and Pittsburgh in the offseason but he's not an easy player to move. I don't see how the Sox could fair any better. The Sox are going to lose just as many games even if they have Jaque Jones misplaying balls in RF and swinging over sliders, if the Sox are going to lose they might as well lose while giving their younger players a chance to play.
  10. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Why shouldn't we pick up Jacque Jones as long as it's for some stiff prospect? He's better than the trash we're throwing out there every day. I don't want to lose 9 of 10 games the rest of the season and Jones is better than the crap we have in the outfield right now assuming Dye is hurt. I'd much rather not be on the hook for the $5M Jones is owed next season. That money could be used to fill a more pressing need than "mediocre outfielder."
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) I thought he was a 3b He can play both with excellent defense at both positions.
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) The only guys that I am certain will be back next year are Konerko, Thome, A.J., and Jenks. Anybody else can be and likely will be gone. If the Sox are some how able to wriggle Salty away from Atlanta suddenly AJ becomes expendable. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) I thought Jordan Danks was already Sox property? He didn't sign after being drafted out of high school and later attended classes at Texas so it's like the Sox never drafted him. He'll be Sophomore eligible next year.
  13. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Pedro Alvarez, what's his stats for whatever team he plays on, and what position does he play? 5 tool shortstop for Vanderbilt. Great speed and insane power are his two best qualities.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) Pedro Alvarez, here we come! It should be fun having a legit position prospect in the system for once. (though Fields is playing quite well)
  15. QUOTE(Chopper2Hopper @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) He has looked good, but I'm always waiting for that next home run. And the one after that... This seasons Javy gives up a HR once every 7.25 IP. Mark Buehrle surrenders one every 7.15 IP. And John Danks every 5.14 IP.
  16. HAHA! What the f*** was that Senior Sparkyplug?
  17. I forgot just how scary bad Podsednik is in LF, he just never looks comfortable catching a flyball.
  18. I know what you're asking yourself: Why did Terrero force the issue right there? Well I can tell you. The guy has played in 28 games this year, has gotten on base around 37% of the time, has hit 5 HR and even stolen a base but he has still yet to hit a double. He just want himself a double.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) f*** your Jim Thome mashometer or whatever it was, Scotty needs one. FIVE f***ING TOOLS Podsednik's could just have 2 categories. Games played and games on DL. Should be fun to see how many more of one he has than the other by the end of the season. Josh Fields is good at baseball.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) Scott Podsednik, home of the starting lineup's highest average, second highest OBP and third highest slugging. And all that in only 34 ABs.
  21. So far the Cubs lead by 2 in efficiency of runs scored.
  22. Look out Cleveland/Detroit Scott Podsednik is back on the prowl.
  23. Rich Hill is worse than Contreras at holding runners.
