  1. I want no part of an Erstad/Anderson/Dye outfield. Ozuna/Mack in LF with Erstad and Anderson sharing time (70:30 in favor of Anderson) is probably optimal at this time. Having both Anderson and Erstad in the lineup at the same time only makes an already stagnate offense even weaker. QUOTE(kane0730 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Maybe they can showcase Logan a bit and trade for some OF help. You're not getting anything better than you already have in exchange for Boone Logan.
  2. Well this is the only injury that could possibly lead to us seeing even more of griderstad. He'll NEVER see the bench now, he's the only leadoff hitter on the team (ozuna aside) in Ozzie's mind.
  3. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Is this the first 7:11 start, or was there one with Cleveland? The White Sox are the only team in the league that start games at 7:11 due to the new deal they have with the Convenience Store. They did play a game last friday at 6:05 though.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) Exactly. I don't understand why the offense will come around when the weather heats up, but we're not supposed to expect the pitching to decline. the average batting line for the AL is .250/.322/.394 right now. What happens when it approaches the .275/.339/.437 line that the AL averaged last year? They have to get those extra hits from somewhere.
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) I think it's an excuse for the fact that hitters normally start slower than pitchers because of the shorter spring training workload. Except we are seeing historic offensive lows to start this season.
  6. Well the cold is being blamed for offense being down across the league. So if the cold is effecting the offense (especially the Sox) to the point where runs/game are down as much as they are wouldn't that in turn help out pitchers? Contreras is a little different I suppose, he has a pretty big leg kick and needs to be pretty loosened up to in order to have his good control, he did walk what 5 batters on Sunday? I think it's a pretty legitimate argument.
  7. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Interesting... I always thought 3 = 3? I must be losing it. Oh, and Danks is younger, a lefty, and has a sexy mound presence. I meant HR/9.
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) I never bashed the trade, in fact, I liked it. However, my opinion has not been swayed by the first three BMac starts. He gives up homeruns, that's what he does. I never thought he looked like he had #1 or #2 stuff. Danks has actually allowed more homeruns this season than BMac, Danks has had a lot of problems with HRs in the past as well.
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) What, that vague, detail-free post wasn't clear enough for you? I thought I was specific enough but i guess that's not good enough for some people. It's tough to explain, you can go listen to the interview on 670thescore.com it'll be under Boers and Bernstein/Steve Stone interviews.
  10. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) So you'd start Anderson and use Erstad as the bench guy. Have I got that right? Yes I do like the idea of having no discussion in this thread, there's enough of that in the 10 other threads about this subject on the front page PHT.
  11. As the starting centerfielder and 9 hole hitter with Erstad coming off the bench, being used as a 4th OF/1B just as he was signed to do.
  12. Chris Rongey is on Chicago Tribune Live right now, in case you haven't gotten your daily dose of idiocy.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) Im sorry my generalization didnt prove true in the 5 RBI chances he has had. 7
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Is Jordan a first round lock at this point? As far as the 2008 draft goes, Jordan is looking like a high first round pick but anything could change between then and now. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) It doesn't matter. he's ineligible for the draft until '08, I believe. I do believe this to be the case.
  15. I'd just like to thank Steve Stone for being a good voice of reason on the Brian Anderson situation.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) That would be amazing, but I think it might have to accompany an 85-90 loss season. He could always pull a Jeff Francouer in order to play with his brother.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) I'm still waiting for Thome to do anything clutch in the 9th inning. Agreed. Thus far he's 1-3 w/ 2 BB.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) See my last comment.... pretty much only Uribe has been clutch when it really mattered. Pods has actually just been doing what he should be doing in getting on base consistantly. Then again we don't pay him for 40 homers and 120 RBIs, so I don't expect that from him either. You just seemed to quantify a 'good hitter' as someone who gets big hits late in games and since Pods and Uribe are supposedly the only 'good hitters' right now I just assumed that Pods had some big moments this year that I don't remember.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) What two run homer in a 2-1 game? I see Thome with a solo shot in the 4th and a run scoring single in the eighth. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playbyplay?g...mp;refresh=null Yeah, I was going strickly from memory on that one, not really close. Anyway, that's a late game RBI right there. I'm still waiting for some of Pods' big late game moments. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) That's the funny part. You can't seem to have a differing opinion without it being blown up into something it is not. I was one who loved the deal to get Thome, and the fact that it meant Frank was moving on. I still think Thome is a great player, and will have a great year, he just hasn't done anything big so far, but really no one on the offensive side of the game has been clutch except for Uribe. I'm not blowing anything out of proportion here, it just seems Thome can't catch a break. I don't know what more some people want from him, he should not be lumped in with Konerko, Dye and Crede right now because he's producing on a whole 'nother level. He's had a grand total of 7 PA with RISP and he's come through 4 out of the 7 times and 1 of those was a HR. It's not his fault that he's not getting the opportunities. If Thome hadn't taken so much unnecessary s*** last year it probably wouldn't bother me nearly as much as it does.
  20. I mean, even the pinch hit single in the 9th yesterday was pretty big at the time. It put the tying run on base in a 1 run game.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) When has he gotten a big hit late in a game this year? The only thing I can find is the run scoring single in Oakland. Everything else has been way early in games. That 2 run 8th inning HR in a 2-1 game in Oakland was pretty big. It's ok, for whatever reason every time Thome does something big late in a game it gets ignored.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Thank you. We just gave up eight earned runs in three games to Cleveland and lost two out of three. There is no excuse for that. The offense has been terrible, and its the guys who get paid the big money who have been leading the flop parade. Its sad, but Pods and Uribe have been our best hitters. Thome has put up some "numbers", but it has been pretty much been from the Sammy Sosa school of hitting when the pressure is off. Yeah, that's bulls*** but I guess that's what happens when you're Jim Thome, he got this same sort of talk last year as well. Where are all these 'big hits' that Pods has come up with this year?
  23. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) How is Thome still getting lumped in with the cesspool of hitting known as Crede/Dye/Konerko? Thome is hitting .294, a silly .455 OBP, 10 walks in 34 ABs, and all this against a s***ton of lefties so far. Always 30 seconds ahead of me!! Foiled again! Not to mention only 7 PAs w/ RISP. Of course in those 7 PAs he has 2 hits, 2 BB, a homerun and 4 RBI
  24. Has anyone actually looked at Thome's stats thus far this season?
