  1. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Career fielding stats from ESPN show that Pods is a better fielder than Mackowiak at all outfield positions. Better fielding percentage. Better range factor. Better zone factor. Pods http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stat...ontext=fielding Mackowiak http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stat...ontext=fielding So hate Pods if you want to hate Pods but not because Mack is a better fielder because it's simply not true. Yes because fielding stats are so reliable. Um, no.
  2. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) If Pods does not play, and Erstad is the 4th OF, who is leading off in that scenario, Gooch? From all indications, it looks like it is going to be either Erstad, Ozuna, or Pods leading off. Whether that is Erstad in LF or CF, Ozuna in LF or Pods in LF. I just hope Anderson is not the odd man out if Pods and Perez both make the team. In my scenerio, where I'm the running things and all with Perez/Mack platooning in LF. Iguchi is the leadoff hitter except in situations where Ozuna is in the lineup, no matter what position he would then leadoff for that game. Mackowiak would also be a nice option leading off against righties while Iguchi leads off against lefties. The production of Ozuna/Mack/Iguchi in leadoff spot would almost certainly be greater than that of Podsednik, they all have the skill set to be pretty good table setters for the big guys in the middle.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) I was wrong about the HR-fest's. I need to mess with the sliders for that. And also, is it just me, or does the CPU make way too many great plays defensively? I must have had about 10 stolen HR's and 8 or 9 diving catches in my 12 games played... Anything that doesn't clear the wall by 10 feet, whether fair or foul, is going to be caught. Talk about unrealistic.
  4. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) So... our defense would suffer if they kept Perez and moved Mackowiak before the season?? I'm not sure we're talking about the same player then. Mack is a DISASTER in the outfield. Not just center. He gets bad jumps on the ball and he can't judge routes. He's looked as brutal in the corners this spring as he did in center last year. In the infield? He's not the first backup option at ANY position. Ozuna will be the backup at third. Cintron will be at SS and 2nd. Erstad will be at 1st. So what is Mack's role? A backup for the backups? I like Mac but... Mackowiak is not a disaster in the OF, I really don't give a s*** what he's done in March with the Arizona sun above his head. If Mackowiak is brutal in the OF then so is Ryan Sweeney, he looked worse than Podsednik out there today. Go back to '05 and check out some of the games Rob played in the corner OF, he's above average out there with probably the second best arm on the Sox strength and accuracy wise. I think it would be ridiculous to trade away one of the absolute best bench players in baseball, a guy who possesses certain skills that no other non-starter on this team has simply because he doesn't have an obvious defensive backup spot. He can play most any defensive position outside of CF, provides more power off the bench than any of the others and actually knows how to draw a walk in a key situation unlike Ozuna and Cintron who have terrible plate discipline. Mack will not be traded this Spring, mainly because KW is dumb enough to make such a move, I still think Mackowiak is KW's backup plan at 2B in '08. With the way this roster is currently put together (cintron, Ozuna, Hall, Mack, Erstad, Podsednik, 4th OF) there is NO room for a guy like Perez. The best possible scenario would be one way or another Podesdnik does not play for the '07 Sox meaning Anderson is the team's CF, Mackowiak platoons in LF with Eduardo Perez and Erstad is used as a 4th OF. That's a winning combination. Of course that won't happen since the team is still enamored with Scott Podsednik. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) Mack is not bad in LF. He's much better than Pods, in fact he's a better baseball player than Pods. If anyone should be traded it should be Pods, but you won't get anything for him unless he's a throw in. I think Erstad is eventually going to get hurt, and Pods is going to struggle. I think if the Sox rid themselves of Mack they would be pining for him around June15th. Its not Mack's fault Ozzie kept throwing him somewhere he should not have been. He had about as much business playing CF as Thome or Konerko. Thank you. Exactly what I'm talking about.
  5. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) If someone hit's 60 HR's in 60 at bats in ST, I'm pretty sure thats good enough to get you on the lub, REALISTICALLY, that wouldn't happen. It has nothing to do with being good enough. That's what I was trying to get across but apparently I didn't make I didn't make it clear enough. Eduardo could tear the cover off the ball in every game he plays this Spring but there just isn't a spot for him on the roster if Podsednik is healthy, unless of course defense means absolutely nothing.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) I like Williams enough not to give that a second thought... I tend to agree.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) I am thrilled we have Macdougal right now. So then how are you going to feel next week when he's playing for Charlie Manuel and the Sox have a new old oufielder?
  8. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) I think it has something to do with the fact that he's hitting .500 so far and tearing the cover off the ball. Even if he hit 1.000 going 60-60 with 60 HRs there still wouldn't be room for him on the roster (realistically) if Podsednik is healthy.
  9. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I'm listening to the Sox - Seattle game right now (in the middle of their 8-run 7th inning). Singleton just asked Farmer, "If spring training ended today, would Eduardo Perez make the team." Farmer's response? "Definitely." Well if the season started today, Podsednik would be on the DL so yeah, there would be a spot. Things tend to change over the course of 2 weeks.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Heath is looking good. Kalapse, new question...I have my screensave off on the laptop but after 5 minutes or so my connection to the tv stops and I have to touch the pad on the laptop to get the picture back on the tv. Is there a way to just let it stay on without me having to touch the mouse pad every few minutes. Go into your power supply settings, there should be options for Power saving. One of them should say when computer is plugged in/batter power, turn off monitor after: 5 minutes. Just change that to an hour or just turn it off altogether. I'm sure your laptop is different from this but it should be similar enough that you can figure it out.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:22 PM) You are my hero. I think of you as the walking encyclopedia of Soxtalk, a better version of the Schwami, haha. It's what I do.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Kalapse or anyone...one thing I want to make sure, do I risk any damage or anything to my tv by using the laptop and hooking it through it. I assume not, but I just want to make sure. I do not have a plasma, if that makes a difference either way. I don't even know what the hell that site looks like, haha. No, it's not going to hurt your TV.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) Ozzie told them to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie had his own set of stats for this spring, somehow Brian Anderson actually has a negative batting average, Luis Terrero as 12 homeruns and Darin Erstad's Grinder rating is through the roof. Comcast somehow got a hold of his stat book.
  14. Josh Fields is tan as f***. He looks like a 40 year old Latino man.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) The best way to make absolutely certain that Rob Mackowiak never plays CF for the Chicago White Sox again is for Rob Mackowiak to never play for the Chicago White Sox again. He's a nice tool to have around...but good lord, every time I see his name in the lineup, after last season, I'll be swearing to myself, even if it wasn't his fault. If you hold what happened last year against Mackowiak then Ozzie wins.
  16. Sweeney isn't exactly replicating last year's performance in Spring Training.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Ya, down in the left part of the mlb video thing there is a button that lets you go to full screen. Too bad half the f***ing pitches I don't see, I just hear the bat crack and than it pans to the players fielding. And my connection is plenty fast so that ain't the issue. Great to know mlb hasn't solved s***. This is the exact reason I hated mlb.tv the past couple years, half the f***ing time you don't even get to see the game. I'm having absolutely no problems with it right now.
  18. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Yeah he does seem awfully rendundant, doesn't he? Not really.
  19. Scott Rolen is probably the best defensive 3B of his generation and one of the greatest to ever play his position. Josh Fields is more like a lesser Travis Fryman than anything else.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) Uribe can play 3B in pinch, with Cintron filling in at SS. Ozuna can also play 2B and 3B. If Crede is DL'ed, we call up Fields. Behind Konerko there's Hall, Thome, and possibly Perez. Mack's useless to us now. What about having just a real good, versatile bat off the bench especially when there's no pressing need to move him to open up a spot? Not everyone has to fit into a specific spot defensively, it's nice to have a guy who can do all the things Mack can on your bench even if he's not serving as a backup to a specific position. Besides, there's no one on this team I would rather have backing up Dye than Mackowiak. Or maybe I just think it's valuable to have a guy with his outstanding batting eye at Ozzie's disposal, no one else who's going to make this team as a bench player can do all the things Mack can, especially take a walk.
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Danks should be starting against lineups such as these. Seattle brought their A lineup out this afternoon. Yep, outside of Balentine and Navarro that's likely their opening day lineup. It would be a nice gage for our 5th starter candidates to get some work against a nearly complete big league lineup.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) As I recall, he hit fairly well (above .300) last Spring. .309/.360/.485/.845, 1 HR, 10 RBI in 68 ABs. I'd say that's fairly good.
