Here's some more discussion on Brady Clark from July and August of last year. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=50860&st=0 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=52830&st=0 http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53421 QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) Pods is not a bad player. Why are we bashing him? The guy was hurt. He can steal 50 plus bases when healthy and I think do much better this year with the bat. It seems we have to complain about somebody on the team and suggest trading him for some A league rookie and the Sox player doesn't deserve it. He is a bad player, he's been below average for the majority of his career and when he is healthy enough to attempt a stolen base he does so at a terrible success rate (worst in baseball last season). When exactly is he going to be healthy then? He was apparently injured all of last season and now he's coming off groin surgery (talk about a nagging injury for a speed player.) Even when the guy has found success at the major league level it has been FAR from consistent and to top it all off he's one of the WORST defensive players you're ever going to see. So ya he's ripped a lot mainly because he deserves it.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) First - don't read it if you don't want to or if you find it bulls*** to read. Move along little doggy. Second - no I don't need the same exact situation. I need something comparable to where someone was mediocre his first year, then failed as terribly as McCarthy did coming out of the bullpen and was still a good pitcher later. Third - In McCarthy's situation I believe they saw him the previous year when he had about 10 starts (5 good) and saw him on tape and made adjustments to him. The second year when he was coming out of the bullpen he was awful because the competition caught up to him and he could not make it out of the bullpen because he is a head case. You know the appearances where he ate spaghetti w/marinara instead of meatloaf during day games and at home when the atmosphere was just right. He pitched good on those days out of the bullpen. Don't like it - don't read it - move on. Hey guess what I have to read your posts in case you haven't noticed I mod this section of the board and you have a history of personal attacks and subsequent suspensions so I have to read you're drawn out posts to make sure you're not herrassing other posters. That sort of line may work with most posters but it's not going to work for me, if you'd like I could always just edit the giant spaces out of your posts if it's too much work for you. And as for you saying McCarthy's '05 season was "mediocre" I recommend you go back and watch some of the starts (boston, texas, minnesota, cleveland) because without Brandon's dominance down the stretch that season the Sox don't even make the playoffs let alone win the World Series.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) So Vazquez wasn't solid last year I take it? I think it's getting to the point where you just need to let it go, it's not worth it anymore. I've had to do this with a few subjects over the years, it just reaches the point where you're never going to be able to get to everyone so it's going to pop up almost daily.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Really? Here, check up on your stats: [/size] So far I count 3 years in which he was in Minnesota's bullpen. Only when he PROVED he could pitch out of the bullpen was he considered for the rotation. After that he was still placed in the bullpen when everyone became healthy. When he was sent back he flourished. That doesn't sound like a headcase to me. That sounds like a young pitcher growing and learning how to pitch. Brandon McCarthy is 23 and has proved nothing, especially out of the bullpen because he was awful last year. He had, what, 4 or 5 good starts in 2005 and he expects to be in the starting rotation? How about proving it out of the bullpen. He seemed to have trouble with that and that is why it seems as if he is a head case. Roy Halladay? He was being switched back and forth between starting and the bullpen when he first came up in 2000. I am sure that is not the easiest thing to adjust to. After the 2000 season he was a full time starter and made the all-star team 2 years later. Horrible examples, horrible. What the hell are you looking for exactly? Someone who was called up as a rookie, struggled as a starter at first so was sent back down but was called up later in the season and played a major role in getting a team to the World Series as a starter but was then used out of the bullpen his second year in the majors and floundered? So you're looking for an exact same situation? I'm just wondering what you're even looking for here. And cut the s*** with all the spaces between paragraphs, it's completely unnecessary and is a b**** to read. And if what McCarthy did out of the pen in '06 counts for so damn much then why don't the 5 starts he had after being called back up at the end of '05 in the middle of a playoff race count for more? You know the starts against division rivals and high powered offenses away from home when he won 3 key decisions posting a 1.69 ERA and sub 1 WHIP.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) Because Konerko and Thome wouldn't beat it out. Even with the shift. Dye, on the other hand, does have some speed and should practice bunting to move the Wheels Konerko and Molasses Thome over. That is, if he's batting 5th. Giambi, Ortiz and Bonds have all laid bunts down the thridbase line over the past few years and easily made it to 1B. If Thome wants to drop a bunt down the thridbase line he can easily walk into first. When the 3B is playing short it doesn't matter how slow you are you're going to have a free single whenever you want it.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) Brady Clark wouldn't be bad He's going to be dealt somewhere this year and he will be a difference maker, he'd look awful good starting in LF as well as backing up Anderson in center.

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) Did you hear the sound bite? It is really nasty and it just poured out. No egging on from Lebatard. Yeah I saw it on SportsCenter, Lebatard just let Hardaway hang himself. All I remember Lebatard saying was "You know what you're saying is outright bigotry right? You sound like a homophobe." or something along those lines, Hardaway took it from there.

He just killed any chance he had of ever returning to television. "I hate gays so I guess I am a homophobe." wow

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) I liked Dave on Newsradio the most, but I was a Kids In The Hall fan first. I still want to see a sit-com based on his axe murderer character. I'm not a big fan of men dressing up like women, I've just never found it funny and the Kids in the Hall did a whole lot of that. A lot of their other sketches were excellent but the amount of cross dressing was staggering. I guess that's why I never liked Monty Python. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) I think I saw maybe 5 minutes of one episode. The first episode of the 5th season is pretty good, it takes place at the radio station after Bill's funeral, outside of that though I had no interest in watching after Phil Hartman was killed.

QUOTE(Tmar @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) I gotta go with Lovitz as the best character I don't even recognize the 5th season as part of the Newsradio franchise.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) I've always liked Joe. He was really good on Newsradio, and the only decent thing about Fear Factor. It was on Fear Factor that you really got the idea that the guy was a no BS guy. He would quite often actually do the eating stuff himself. Mencia seems like a twit. Joe Rogan was outstanding on Newsradio, the second best character behind Phil Hartman oh how I miss that show. Atleast Rogan has made me laugh on occasion unlike Mencia.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) I like when they dont "try" to hit home runs. When a home run comes because of working a count, getting a pitch to swing at, or when a line drive bomb flies out its okay. When the team goes up, and tries to lift and pull every single pitch no matter where its thrown because they need to make sportscenter, or when a pitcher consistantly throws low and away, and they still try and lift and pull especially in a tie game late, when you have less than 2 outs and a man in scoring position when a single will win it, and not the dramatic homer. Thats when our approach pisses me off. I would like to see our hitters work the count more this year, and take whats given to them. If you have a pitcher throwing low and away the entire game, its okay to hit it up the middle and to right. The minute they start doing that, they will see more pitches inside, and then they can turn and burn on those. It feels like August all over again reading this post.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) So he is that big of a head case that he can't adjust to bullpen duty? s***, Johan Santana did it for a year or two. That is one sad excuse. Santana came out of the pen for a season and was even worse than McCarthy was last year. Apparently he's a headcase as well. Same goes for Roy Halladay.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) What's with Nascar Now being on ESPN at 4:00-5:00 instead of ATH and PTI? Is this permanent? I think it's only this week for the Datona 500. ESPN picking up NASCAR is basically a worst case scenerio come to life and having Eric Kasillyass host the shows is just the cherry on top of a giant crap sundae.

Fernando Vina has signed a deal on with ESPN and Baseball Tonight ending his 12 year career. He will fill the 2B spot vacated by Harold Reynolds on the Baseball Tonight Softball team.

Mariano Rivera made a similar threat to the Yankees yesterday, that really caught me by surprise. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) A lot of non-White Sox fans find Crede's lack of of an eye and 'all or nothing' mentality to be what would be called overrated from the general thought process over here. It's interesting to hear various websites talk about Crede. Over here you'd think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread, on another fan site of a different team he's a middle of the pack offensive third basemen. Well about a month ago I put together a list of thirdbasemen who you could argue are equal to or better than Crede, I came up with about 16 names so middle of the pack sounds about right to me. Oddly enough if Joe Crede played for the Phillies he'd be the worst 3B in their division.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) As much as I absolutely hate to say it, Pablo looks to be the odd man out so far. If he's let go, it'll be Herbert Perry all over for me. And the bench will lose its one and only 'speed guy'.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) You say you want Iguchi leading off against lefties. I dont think thats a good idea. Take a look at these stats. Year/BA/BA-RHP/BA-LHP/OBP-RHP/OBP-LHP 05/.278/.279/.274/.337/.353 06/.281/.298/.252/.363/.335 For some reason which I cant really explain Iguchi was awful against lefties last year. With pods, iguchi, thome being 1,2,3 in the lineup last year when we faced a lefty no wonder we struggled. If he returns to show better splits in 07 great but if hes like how he was last year he cant lead off against LHP, heck he shouldn't even be hitting 2nd with those splits. Out of the guys currently on the 25 man roster with a realistic shot at the leadoff spot he's the only one who can hit lefties even a little bit, the other guys are just ridiculously bad against southpaws.

QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) If you substituted Hall into a game late, who would be our emergency third string catcher? Without someone, Ozzie may have his hands tied. The emergency catcher is Rob Mackowiak and Toby Hall likely will not be comming in late unless the Sox are up by like 8+ runs. I think the Toby Hall signing was the only one this offseason that most all Sox fans approved of.

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) I've been begging the Sox to sign Perez for a while now. He's fantastic against LHP, and he did very well in his brief time in the AL Central last year against the top lefties in the division. He'd be a great guy to have face the likes of Santana, C.C., etc. I just hope he can make the 25 man roster. Great signing! About damn time they picked him up, he's been a popular name on here for a few years now, I know I mentioned his name as recently as a few days ago.

The best possible option for the leadoff spot next year only regarding current personel would be Mackowiak starting in LF and leading off against righties and Iguchi taking over in the #1 spot against lefties with Erstad starting in LF. I'm done seeing Ozuna play LF, there's no use for it this team has enough outfielders so that we never have to see him butcher another flyball out there again. Whenever Pablo does get in the lineup while giving someone in the infield a day off, I'd like to see him takeover the leadoff spot on those days. I don't want to see either of Sweeney or Fields to start the season and Sweeney not at all until '08. Jerry Owens will never be anything more than a 4th OF for a bad team.
