QUOTE(kman @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) well mid .200 is the middle of the .200's aka about .250. I thought that was a given? Yeah, I'm not sure Kyyle really got that.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) I think you understand my point just fine .250 is not even close to .200 I believe this is where the confusion is coming from QUOTE(kman @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) Good to hear as long as his "D" is there I could care less about his mid .200 avg

QUOTE(Scwible @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Kalapse, are you able to get the high res pictures that are using something like this? http://images.sportsline.com/b/ap/photos/W...24576_lower.jpg No, if it has a black border you can't convert it, you have to wait until they release the borderlees pics like they just did with Iguchi and like they should be doing soon with the Uribe/Ozzie pics.

A couple more f***ups from the AP captions today. Javier Vasquez and John Garland.
-
He looks stout.

I've really cooled on Coop over the past year and a half or so. It seems like he's completely lost his sense of humor and is just overly defensive when it comes to his players or the actions of the coaching staff. This whole organization is headed in an odd direction PR wise.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) BA has until the ASB as far as I'm concerned. Well maybe not even that late. I'd love to see him thrive--that only helps us--but am getting tired of his bat. Did he play winter ball this year? He played Winter Ball up until he became violently ill and came back to the US. Shortly after that the rest of the Sox players also left Venezuela to protest the firing of Razor Shines. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) I'm ready to eat it. It's just...I don't think he's our starting CF coming out of spring training this year. Erstad in center, Owens in left, my prediction. Jerry's going to have a big spring. Just one of the many reasons why I hate how much stock some organizations put into Spring Training performance. If Spring Training were really an indication of how that player was going to fair during the regular season then Brian Anderson would have been an All Star last season, Boone Logan would have been one of hte best setup men in basebal and Tadahito would have been benched for Ozuna. It's 4 weeks playing in a climate that they will not experience much during the year, playing against s***ty journeyman pitchers.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Anyway, if the Sox do let Dye/Buehrle/Iguchi go and then trade Crede, in 2008 they'll have a payroll below what the Royals have in 2007 (Sox 2008 would be roughly 50 million). They'd be ripped apart by fans and media if that happened -- I'm wondering who they're planning to spend money on. $50M? Um no. With player raises and backloaded contracts if Crede, Dye, Iguchi and Buehrle all leave the team after the '07 season the payroll would still be around $80M-$85M that's assuming they're replaced with players making the league minimum and the team brings in no other big money players.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) I'd believe 5'9-5'10, but not because of the picture. -Aardsma is striding off the ground -Gonzalez is bent slightly -Gonzalez is probably a foot, foot and a half behind Aarsdma. They can't be judged on an equal plane. Even with this, you're fairly close to the true height. Yeah, it's not exactly scientific.
-
A few minutes worth of work and I get a real height for Gio. Somewhere between 5'8" and 5'9" but closer to 5'9".
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) I think it was more of a joke by Kalapse. He replaced 1971 with 1951. He is listed as 35. There you go.
-
Well, Aardsma is 6'4". It's not like he's standing next to Mackowiak or something but yeah he looks a lot closer to 5'9".

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) 1 year of suck....He had a bad August when he was hurt. Then when healthy, and a great September and incredible October. Eh, I never said the suck had to be consecutive. He was bad about as often as he was good in '05 and was bad more often than he was good in '06.
-
It's funny that so many people are banking on a big year from Buehrle because he's playing for a contract next year and many of these same people say Uribe should have extra motivation to succeed next season because he's playing for a contract in '08 (though the Sox do hold an option) but you don't hear anyone use the contract year logic when it comes to Javy. He's arbitration eligible next season but if he does perform well enough in '07 he could be looking at a long term deal either from the Sox or a trade partner.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) What makes you think he can't? Over the course of his career Podsednik has been bad more often than he has been good. This includes a 1.5 year run of suck that he is currently on and he's coming off a devastating injury for a speed guy which often results in a few months of recuperating and nagging soreness afterwards. To rely on this guy again this year, to not have a single acceptable backup plan is just stupid.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) I am always against someone wanting out of their contract. Work on the next one, but don't complain about the current one. He was happy to take the job, the Bears took a chance and won. How many times does the team take a chance and lose? Wanny wasn't returning any money. Now starting next year, make him a top paid coach and wrap him up for 5 or 6 years. He earned that. This isn't about the '07 season, he seems content with living out the final year of his deal but if he's not given an extension for '08 and beyond by the start of the '07 season he's going to hit free agency and the second the Bears lose exclusive negotiating rights with Lovie someone is going to swoop in and make them look terrible by giving him huge money which is something the Bears just refuse to do. They're not going to negotiate during the season next year, it's just too much of a distraction. According to reports the Bears are low balling the hell out of Smith right now and that is just sad. None of this is about '07, it's all about '08 and beyond and the Bears refuse to give Lovie any kind of money for the future. If they think they can wait until the end of the '07 season and re-sign him, they are gravely mistaken.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) Pods is not a no-tool player. He was injured last year. Ever try to run with a pulled muscle or a sports hernia? Ya ain't gonna be good. He gutted it out and should be commended for it. He also should have been benched, if there was a good replacement, which there wasn't. So, let him heal and let's see what kind of ballplayer he is this year. Rob Mackowiak was a more than acceptable replacement.
-
I'd be willing to sign Jermaine to a deal right now, no matter how big of a risk it is. At this point the Sox can afford to give out a large contract with some risk behind it in order to keep a great guy, player and teammate around for the rest of his career. 3 years, $40M guaranteed. $11M per with a 4th year team option worth $12M or a $4M buyout +$3M signing bonus. Very similar to what the Padres gave Brian Giles and I think it works for both sides.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) Gooch having another consistent year, just jacks his price up even more. I don't think he has to improve much on his last two seasons to get a big pay day. I think he has to just remain consisitent and he'll get it. I'm not sure why Kenny didn't want to work things out with Gooch this offseason, but I'm hoping he has something up his sleeve and I'm really hoping that something isn't Lopez. Even if he does have another good year in '07 and goes into the offseason as the #1 2B on the market (which he will be) he's still not going to make that much. The Sox have the money, there isn't a single legitimate reason for not giving Iguchi an extension at this point. If he walks, the Sox are going to have a huge hole up the middle for the foreseeable future.

QUOTE(T R U @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) Kalapse shoots.... he scores per usual

'Shadows' would be much cooler.

QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) It may a dumb question, but under salaries, what does AUTO stand for? The minimum? It's basically the first 3 years of a players career before he becomes arbitration eligible so he is under complete team control and makes right around league minimum. I'm not entirely sure what to call this period of time and 'auto' seemed the most appropriate. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Not enough service time for arbitration. So the team controls them. Kalapse, I love the DOB for the Count. Also, no Perez on the 25 man roster? Perez signed a minor league deal so he's not gauranteed a spot on the roster or any money, plus the only way he makes the team is if Podsednik starts the year on the DL, which he likely will so I guess he should be included in the 25 man. What you see there is only a fraction of complete spreadsheet which includes over 60 players. Eduardo Perez is listed under "others not on 40 man" with Junior Spivey, Wiki Gonzalez and the like.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) fixed. Yes, thank you.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) I plugged it right into my tv with an s-video cable. Looked great. No software. There you go. There is no additional software or hardware as long as your computer has an S-Video input which it likely does. Just plug the cord into both the tv and computer then you'll either have to go into your advanced video settings and change the display or just send you computer into standby mode and it will do it for you. The quality is outstanding.
