  1. $106M spent in a matter of hours.
  2. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) It makes me wonder if KW is going to extend their contracts and trade one of them. Baseball doesn't really work that way.
  3. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) I like the moves Moore is making thus far. He is going to be an outstanding GM, if not already. He's making it a point to collect as many power arms as he can for their system since hard throwers are just far to expensive to acquire once they find success in the bigs.
  4. It appears the Mets will be sending Brian Bannister to the Royals for Burgos.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) I thought I heard 3 mil on the radio today. $1M last year and $2M this year.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Did they bug the salt shakers? Appearantly Levine snuck into the White Sox sweet by hiding under a room service cart, he was rolled up in the fetal position for a good 6 hours listening in on Williams and Cashman playing a very heated game of Mario Kart.
  7. According to ESPN 1000 Alex Rodriguez was not discussed last night during the Cashman/Williams talks. It was strickly Sox SP for Yankees RP being talked about. I'd imagine names like Farnsworth and Myers were mentioned when discussing Yankees relievers which makes little sense to me.
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) Do you think it's Buehrle? Or do you think it's both? I think it's just Buehrle. I really don't see Garcia pitching for the Sox in '07.
  9. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) I keep forgetting our pitchers status...is Buerhle signed through '07 or '08? Free agent after '07 though it appears he may be negotiating a long term deal with the Sox currently.
  10. This is f***ing huge, good work Brandon. He's knows what it's going to take for him to become a big time pitcher in the bigs and the first step is adding bulk, it's great to see him really dedicating himself to his job.
  11. I have just a few more fun Scott Podsednik stats before I call it a night. Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 12 SB (35 players) only 3 had a lower OBP than Scott Podsednik's .330 (B. Phillips, J. Barfield, Pr. Wilson.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 12 SB (35 players) only one player had a lower SB% than Scott Podsednik's 67.8% (T. Hunter.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 9 SB (54 players) only one player had a lower batting average than Scott Podsednik's .261 (A. Everett.) Out of all the players in major league baseball last season who had atleast 465 ABs and 9 SB (54 players) only two player had less total bases than Scott Podsednik's 185 (A. Everett, W. Taveras.) There's more but I'll end it right there.
  12. Appearantly Podsednik's .330 OBP is acceptable even though it was the worst for any fulltime leadoff hitter in the AL last year. Then factor in his major league worst 63.8% SB% and that OBP gets even more pathetic. Consider the horse beaten. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) I wasn't so sure as people have actually believed what he said This is true, for whatever reason there are a few out there who expect Ricky Henderson type numbers from next year's leadoff man which is never going to happen. I took this as strong sarcasm however.
  13. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Ive spent most of my time in the Squared Circle thread and the College Football/NFL thread.. too slow around Pale Hose Right now, till we make some moves at least but you know me all too well Plus you never get on AIM anymore Well my laptop has been busted for about 2 months now so I have very limited internet access, I'm hoping to have the situation resolved by Christmas so I should be on quite a bit over break.
  14. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) If we signed Bonds I would buy an authentic Bonds Sox jersey immediately.. I would LOVE to have Bonds in LF for us next year You've made like 6 posts over the past month that I've seen and yet the second I saw Fathom's post I knew you wouldn't be far behind.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) I've always said that I expect him to be out of baseball in a handful of years with injuries from his mechanics and I've also been very critical of his stuff. A 91 MPH fastball with no movement, an okay curveball and a changeup that he doesn't always has a feel for? Also: I expect him to give up a s***load of homeruns. Straight fastballs at modest heat? Mmhmm. Well he was throwing 93-94 last year and I'm not sure what you expect from a 21-22 year old but they don't always have a great feel for all their pitches, it takes major league experience for them to gain confidence in all their pitches especially something like a change. And for a guy with ok mechanics (they're certainly not horrible) he's never really had any injury concerns over the course of his playing career. A little added bulk and some work with a good pitching coach and he should add a few miles per hour onto that fastball and avoid any strain on his arm that his violent arm motion causes.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) lol thats the qoute of the day because its pretty much true. Many White Sox fans have wanted Rowand back since May and we have been talking about getting him back ever since. You have to admit, he may not be the the most talented, or even a better athlete than than Anderson, but he works his ass off and White Sox fans appreciate that. He loves the White Sox and loves White Sox fans. How can you not miss a guy like him?? Getting Rowand back won't neccessarily garuntee us a division title, but it does garuntee us that our defense will be pretty solid out in CF and RF. Getting Rowand back may also help Pods game, Rowand helped Pods defense when he was here and Pods helped Rowands base running. Im all for getting Rowand back. No wonder Rowand's SB% dipped below 75% last season, I had no idea he was taking baserunning tips from the worst baserunning "speed guy" in the league.
  17. HA! Chris Duncan, yeah he really fits the Sox' needs.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Maybe they would include Pat Burrell in the deal? I know they want to unload him and his salary, but Im sure we could handle it getting rid of Garcia or Vaz. Put him in LF, A-row in CF, Rollins at SS? Just xboxing it up over here!! Burrell is due $27M over the next 2 years, has very real injury concerns, is 30 years old, has a history of attitude problems and owns a full no trade clause that's he's only willing to waive in order to go to the Yankees, Bo Sox or a West Coast team.
  19. Levine has mentioned Rowand's name every monday morning for the past 3 months, this is nothing new. I'm starting to think he's just throwing this out there once every couple days as pure speculation in order to keep Sox fans listening to his updates since most still love Aaron.
  20. The Winter Meetings actually start today in Orlando.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) I'm not arguing such a meaningless point anymore You have to learn how to chose your battles, I didn't even get in on this, it just didn't seem worth it.
  22. QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:34 AM) Good thread. Why can't we sign him? We got it done with Paulie. Konerko ended up signing for below market value (atleast after this free agency period), the Sox were able to work out a deal with Konerko's reasonable agents which was fair for both sides and offered very nice compensation for the player. Joe Crede on the other hand will be recieving a deal WELL over market value and for more years than should be handed out for a player with his injury concerns. I'm still convinced that Boras wants Joe to go to free agency no matter what and most likely wouldn't be all that interested in working out a long term deal with the Sox unless they're really willing to overpay. Boras' #1 goal as an agent is to make his clients as much money as possible and the best way to do that is to get his guys out on the open market and get 4-6 teams bidding for his clients services. You don't often make the real big bucks by negotiating out contract extensions with the player's original team before they're able to hit free agency, there's no competition involved and thus the overall payout of the contract is usually much lower. That's why Boras is the best, he's knows exactly how to work the system for his clients inorder to make the most green possible. Joe Crede will not be an exception, otherwise he would never have hired Boras in the firstplace. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Pauly's agent wasn't Scott Boras and Crede is actually going to get more money than Paul. More money and more importantly more years. I'm thinking 6 gauranteed with 1 or 2 option years, with vesting clauses included.
  23. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) How about Gary Matthews? Derosa? They aren't even good and they had big years. Same for Mark Mulder and Kip Wells right?
  24. If Alex Rodriguez voided the rest of his deal after the 2007 season he'd be passing up $81M over 3 years. I don't care how insane the market is, I just don't see him passing up that sort of cash just to get in on the free agent market. In order to void his deal after '08 or '09 there would have to be someone in baseball with a salary higher than his $27M which there will not be so if he passes up voiding his deal after '07 he will not be able to do so until his deal runs out after '10.
