QUOTE(T R U @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) I guess ill be the first of the 5 votes to come out and say I dont respect them and still see them fading away, im in the minority on this one Probably because it'll be nearly impossible for that to happen. They'll have to play absolutely horrid ball from here on out.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) thank you oakland. now complete the sweep tomorrow. Rodney is one of Detroit's weak links. Todd Jones is another. But I've quit waiting for Verlander to hit the wall. he's the real deal. You can be the real deal and still hit a wall. The sudden increase in innings pitched can kill a young pitcher's arm, just ask Mark Prior. Verlander is most definately on pace for a dead arm period or atleast a lapse in production due to the huge increase in innings from last year to this year.

QUOTE(Fotop @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Dont know if this has been mentioned/actually works, but I've been hitting vote with just a 1 in the vaildation box (apparently you just need anything there) and it's taking me to the same thank you for voting screen. Then I hit alt + I wonder if this is actually working? It looks like it, since I'm taken to the same screen in the end as I normally would be. Just thought I'd let you guys know this, just in case it is real and we can increase voting volume 100 fold. Those votes are not going to be counted, it takes you to the same screen but without a proper validation code the vote is thrown out.

Andruw Jones just turned 29 meaning he's a year younger than Konerko and a year older than Crede, I really wouldn't call his age a huge negative in this one. As for the "not trying" bulls***, the guy has had random times throughout his career (mainly when he was around 20) when he would maybe not go all out for a ball hit in front of him, there are a ton of players in the league who do this, just about all of them do it, most of them do it far more often than Andruw. But since Jones has spent his entire career with Bobby Cox riding his ass and calling him out everytime he does something stupid he's been labeled as "lazy" and such. It's a joke. The major problem I see is from the financial aspect, I'm starting to think that the price for Jones is going to be incredibly low for a player of his stature simply because of how desperately it seems the Braves want rid of his contract. This makes him incredibly desirable right now. At the same time though he's set to make $13M this year and $13.5M next year after than he's a free agent. His agent, Satan, will surely have him testing the waters after '07 and I'm not sure that's something the Sox would want to get themselves into.

Just for the record, the Braves will not be eating a penny of Andruw's contract.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Have they released any standings yet? No but we should get one tomorrow.

QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) anyway to view who's leading? MLB releases periodic results throughout the week but other than that there's not way to check on the current standings.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The 'pen is more of a worry. Buehrle, Count, and Garcia are solid, veteran talent that've gotten it done down the stretch before. Vazquez and Garland have been good back-of-the-rotation-caliber guys (if not more) throughout their careers. We also have B-Mac as an emergency backup. On the other hand, the only relievers that I'm comfortable with are Jenks and B-Mac. Politte's career numbers are mediocre and he's rumored to be injured (and is pitching like it), Hermanson may never pitch again, Thornton is still a huge question mark (despite solid pitching recently), and Montero will be iffy if he's forced to come up again. The other options in the minors (Logan, Tracey, Haeger) aren't ready to pitch in the majors yet. You mentioned a guy who shouldn't even be brought up this season in Hermanson, the 6th guy out of the pen in Clifford and the biggest question mark in Thornton. What about Cotts? He has playoff experience and has been pretty damn solid this season. How about Riske? The guy has a ton of previous success on good teams and has pitched well for the Sox thus far. Right now the Sox have 4 guys in the pen who can be counted on at all times (Jenks, BMac, Cotts, Riske) with Thornton knocking on the door. I don't see it as being a huge concern right now.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Jon Garland and Vazquez have been below average. As has Garcia for just about the whole season, Contreras in June and Buehrle on and off througout the season.

QUOTE(SouthSide2004 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) Well, if this watered-down discussion is so annoying then why don't you try to ignore it and not be such an asshole. Try going outside where running your mouth like that is going to lead to some serious consequences. It's not healthy for a 19 year old boy to be spending all his free time on the internet anyways. Man, I wish my mod powers stretched into Trade Winds. Seems like I'm the recipient of an awful lot of animosity these days, can't say I don't like it. I really do wish I could be outside right now but I doubt my bosses will appreciate that.

Bobby had his flashes in the minors as well, even though he did underperform for much of his minor league career, after being promoted from rookie ball to AA in '03 he dominated at Arkansas going 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA over 16 starts. He completely fell off in '04 which lead to him being placed on waivers by the Angels. Last year at Birmingham he was back to his dominant ways but this time, as a reliever. 35 appearances, 19 saves, 2.85 ERA and 48 Ks. I wouldn't exactly call that mediocre, I'd say underperforming is a much better description.

Ugh, it seriously sucks that he needs to be discussed in so many threads, this same waterdowned discussion is just annoying to me. I really don't think it's hard to see the improvement at the plate from him even if it's not translated to much improved numbers. People were asking for good ABs and he's giving them right now. I was never a fan of Anderson as a prospect and I'm still not as high on his future in baseball as some are but I do see improvement from him as have many many others including Ozzie and KW yet the same arguments about him are comming up. It's tiresome. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Personally I'd like to have Jones reather than BA for the 13 games we have left w/Detroit Yes, that is quite the limb you've gone out on there.

QUOTE(pcullotta @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) I'm sorry man but we are talking about replacing Brian Anderson with Andruw Jones. Obviously Brian is going to have to be brought up. Then why did you feel the need to throw this into 2 of your posts?
-
QUOTE(pcullotta @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) First off, I don't know why you have to come off like such an asshole. I have been nothing but extremely polite in this thread and your post is an example of why I don't normally post. Moving along, in his last seven games, BA is hitting .154 with 0 HR, 0 RBI and an OPS of .522. Furthermore, here is a comparison from May 26th. Juan Uribe was batting .193 then and BA was batting .163. Since then, Uribe's AVG has gone up 45 points while BA's has gone up 13 points. I know BA isn't gonna hit .270. However, I need to see more then 13 points improvement. I like BA. If you read my other comments you would see that. I was just pointing out that his recently improved offense has been taken way out of context. In the horrible movie Little Big League, a bad hitter gets one of his rare hits and the manager gets excited. His Asst. Coach says "kid , don' t you think something's wrong when you get this excited over a seeing eye single." It seems like every time BA gets a hit, everyone thinks he's turned the corner. I hope he does but I haven't seen it yet. .250 BA | .425 SLG% | 1 HR | 6 RBI | 7 R | 5 2B | over last 12 If you look at him at the plate he's looked much improved since he beginning of the season blah blah blah I'm done with all the BA s***, if you're watching the games you don't need to be told that's he's looked better, he's showing more patience, confidence and is driving the ball even if the balls aren't falling in. He was hitting the s*** out of the ball then hits a 5 game suspension which didn't help matter either. I come off like an asshole because it's growing tiresome making the same argument. Keep this thread to Andruw Jones, you say you don't want to make it into another Brian Anderson bashing thread? Then don't, quit talking about him and stick to Jones.
-
He's said this before, BA has been amazing defensively and has been much better at the plate of late. Ozzie and Sox fans said they'd be satisfied if BA could just put up some good ABs and a hit for a decent average for the rest of the season and guess what? He's doing that, he's looked pretty damn good at the plate over the past month and he's been solid since June 10th .250 BA | .425 SLG% | 1 HR | 6 RBI | 7 R | 5 2B | over last 12 His numbers at the end of the season are still going to look like s*** but that's just how it works when you dig a hole as deep as he has. Sometimes you just have to head these things off.
-
QUOTE(pcullotta @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) And when do you anticipate that will be? I don't want this to turn into a BA bashing thread because I like Brian, but how can you just assume his offense will come around? His overall number will not look good at the end of the year, that's just the way it is, he's dug too deep a hole. Do yourself a favor and see what he's done it his past 12 games instead of being so incredibly dense.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) Isn't Cano hurt? Wouldn't Gooch be an injury replacement for him? I'm pretty sure that's how Jose Lopez got in. Cano and Rios are both injured and have already been replaced, not sure who took Alex' spot.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:46 AM) Schilling can go f*** himself and so can the Red Cub nation. They voted in a 250 f***ing hitter. When you decide to vote in trash because he is one of your beloved Red Cubs, the you can f***ing cry when your precious little bloody sawx moron doesnt get in. Schilling over values himself, and he can go to hell. Hafner is not having a better year than either Konerko or Thome. So he can eat s***, and so can the Tribe fans who think otherwise. And to the tiger fans who for whatever reason inhabit this board. Take your b****ing and whining and self importance elsewhere. I could care if you feel that Jimmy is a better person and would take x player because of his neutralism. Ozzie saw Verlander 2 times. He got hit pretty well both times. Dye deserves to go over Magglio. I think its awsome that Ozzie took his team. The yanks and red cubs have been doing this for years. Now we do it, and we are the bad guys. Pound sand. Lets vote AJ in and make it a lucky 7. And with the first injury (no matter the position) Ozzie will be adding Crede giving the Sox 8 representatives.

Sportscenter following Game 1 Victory vs. Cubs
Kalapse replied to jamalmanburg's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, seeing how he immediately turned around to make sure he was alright, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was unintentional.
