I'm finally off of the Podsednik bandwagon (long)
Kalapse replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) So which one of these 25 or 26 leadoff hitters is Kenny gonna go out and trade for? He's not going to, he's going to stick with Podsednik for whatever reason. I'm just saying that most of the leadoff hitters in baseball are equal to or better than Podsednik. IMO the Sox could have stuck about 30 different people in the leadoff spot (though it would be impossible to acquire some of them using Carlos Lee) and the Sox still would have won the WS. All I'm really saying is, just because the Sox won the World Series with the guy leading off for them doesn't mean they should be content with him this year and in the future. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) I forgot to mention, Tadahito Iguchi is also hitting .331/.381/.504 with runners on, so why risk getting thrown out? Basically, its smarter that he's not stealing as many bases. I thought that was his 1 major asset though? There's plenty of other guys the Sox could find who could put up a .350 OBP, hit no HRs and steal a couple bases while playing much better defense in LF. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Pods is our leadoff man. We won a title with him as our leadoff man. That's all that really matters. Is he great? No. He wasn't great last year. The only real part of his game that I'm dissapointed with this year is his defense. I don't even have to go into how bad it's been. Right now we could replace Pods with about 25-26 other team's leadoff hitter and we wouldn't lose a step. A great majority of them would be a major upgrade as well. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) He probably meant, "Wasn't" a fluke. perhaps

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Vazquez and a good ML pitcher (Broadway) to the Mets for Milledge (sp?) ----Doesn't Vazquez have to be traded out east or something like that. Mets rotation is not that good. Milledge and Fields for Schmidt. Essentially Vazquez, Fields and Broadway for Schmidt. Assuming KW is given the 72 resign window with Schmidt. Ugh, that's just horrid. Chris Young, Orlando Hernandez, Luis Vizcaino, Josh Fields and Lance Broadway for a 33 year old Jason Schmidt. That's 3 top prospects, an excellent bullpen arm and a #5 starter for a guy who is no where near a gaurantee to succeed this year.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) So, who else are we behind now? I know the Angels, A's, and Tigers. 1.) Tigers - 3.46 2.) Angels - 4.07 3.) A's - 4.20 4.) Yankees - 4.30 5.) Twins - 4.36 6.) White Sox - 4.44 7.) Mariners - 4.45 8.) Red Sox - 4.54 9.) Rangers - 4.63 10.) Blue Jays - 4.66 11.) Indians - 4.74 12.) Devil Rays - 4.82 13.) Orioles - 5.29 14.) Royals - 5.79 I didn't even think it was possible to have a 5.79 team ERA.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) where'd you find that? Link? Thx! If you're simply asking how many times AJ Pierzynski struck out yesterday then that can be found here.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) How many times did A.J. strike out yesterday over the 19 innings? Twice.

QUOTE(innersanctum @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Play the scenario out for a minute, if we were to acquire Schmidt: Why wouldn't or couldn't we sign Schmidt to a contract before he becomes a free agent? Wasn't Garcia a rental when we got him and then we signed him long term? I know there is a family connection between him and Ozzie but is there an opportunity that we could keep him for the long run once the season is over? Schmidt is also 33 years old, a 3 or 4 year contract extension for a 33 year old power pitcher with 12 years and over 1800 IP under his belt is a hell of a risk. Plus if he's able to finish out this year with any sort of success, he'll be looking for his last big contract, meaning he's going to go for as much cash as he can get. This doesn't really make a whole hell of a lot of sense.

B+ POSITIVES - Unbelievable offensive explosion this year, Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome have appearantly decided to join the ranks of the elite in the AL offensively (nothing new for Thome) and Joe Crede has been just ricockulous on both O and D. - Classic AJ is back and it's made this team so much better. - Contreras has gone a long way to prove that the second half of last year wasn't a fluke. Awesome. - Brian Anderson has shown me so much in CF this year, I never liked him as a prospect and seriously questioned his defense, considering how some people talked about him. He has proven to be one of the best defensive players in baseball for the half season, simply unbelievable. - Even with all their flaws this team has still managed to stay only 2 game back of a team that is winning at a ridiculous pace. NEGATIVES - Reliance on Thome at the beginning of the year could have crippled this team. - Inconsistent bullpen for a good portion of the season thus far, though the pen has been pretty solid of late. - Scott Podsednik - Horrid starting pitching considering the expectations. - Fundamentals have been pretty sloppy as well, this team can't bunt for s*** it seems and the baserunning has been subpar.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) They said he injured his hand on Friday and wasn't sure if he wanted to play all weekend Yeah, he sliced open a few fingers on the underside of his hand and needed some stitches. He sat out yesterday out of fear that he may bust open the wound swinging a bat.

Now in return we need an infielder to drop out at the last second.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Well...we're both wrong. Ozzie tabs Vernon Wells to start in CF. Vlad in LF and Ichiro in RF. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar06/ne...tory?id=2515212 I was hoping one member of the 2005 World Series Champions would start. Makes a lot more sense than Dye.

Possibly the most satisfying HR of the season thus far.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) Does anyone know 36???? I've never heard the answer before [email protected], send an email to Mariotti see if he has Hawk Harrelson's phone number, he's a baseball historian of sorts perhaps he would have the answer.

Also, I believe Schmidt is a free agent after this season.

Thome kept the Sox alive for the first month or so of the season and JD has been carrying the team of late and has been the most ridiculously clutch player on the team (outside of Pablo). You really can't go wrong with either one.

QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Pitching is the weakspot of this team, so by all means lets trade away our young pitching, the pitcher that practically every team asks for when the call us to trade - he gave up 2 home runs yesterday, so he must suck. And let's do it for a hard-used Andruw JOnes who, despite the absurd hype around him, is another Carlos Lee/Dye level hitter (power, mediocre obp) of which we have a surplus. Anderson is young, cheap and better defensively. If it were up to conventional wisdom, we'd never have young players....no Garland, no Crede, no Anderson, but we'd have Joe Randa and Darin Erstad wheezing around the bases. Hillarious. Also, Jermaine Dye had a .401 OBP comming into today's game.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) Anyone remember that Contreras started today? Or how about that Papelbon actually allowed a run on the road? Blowing his third save and allowing his second HR of the season. His ERA jumped from .41 to .59.

Brandon McCarthy is probably the second best starting pitcher on this team.

An epic debut was made today . . .
