  1. It's kind of sad how the Sox only have 1 major league LF and CF on the roster, Mack in left and Brian in CF. No one else on the 25 can play even play mediocre defense at those positions. A-Rod is SO going to make Ozzie pay.
  2. If Contreras ends up having an excellent outing tonight I expect Widger to be praised. If you're going to drag him through the mud when the starters suck, I expect him to be be praised when they excel.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) I don't know if this name has been mentioned as far as Mets prospects are concerned, but Phillip Humber is back throwing after Tommy John surgery. He was the Mets #3 prospect this yr from Baseball America [behind Pelfrey] even after having the surgery. He was throwing in AA to end last yr before he got hurt. He was the mets #1 pick in 2004, with a 91-94 mph FB and a 6-12 curve, and a changeup. If Humber does in fact have a 6-12 Curveball, I'd trade for his ass in a f***ing second. Damn, how could anyone hit a pitch that rises from their knees to the letters?
  4. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) ok but how can you say that... even if their numbers are completely equal why would you say you'd rather have a BA than a Milledge? For the rest of this year, I'll take the superior defense of Brian Anderson at the 1 or 2 most important defensive position on the field. As for '07 and beyond, well that's another story but all we're discussing here is the 2006 season.
  5. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) he's 21, BA is 24. That two months BA sucked was MORE than the total amount of time Milledge was up this year. Who know's maybe he'd have gone on a tear too? it may have been a bit over the top to say he's 's***loads' than BA right now, but given age, ability, upside blah blah blah, i'd take milledge over anderson in a heartbeat - even right now. See, if you're going to take into account age and upside then you can't say Milldge is an upgrade over Anderson right now because those things have absolutely nothing to do with who the superiour player is currently. From what I saw of Milledge in his stint this year and from what Brian Anderson has done so far this season I'd say for the rest of '06 Brian Anderson is a much better fit for this team than Lastings Milledge.
  6. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) ah and what about BA's .190 average? and the 4 walks are in what, 86 at bats? BA's had 182... Milledge OBP: .287 Anderson OBP: .280 Brian Anderson is hitting .333 for July and about .250 or so for the past month. That's pretty damn good considering how great his defense is. You can keep pointing to his .190 batting average all you want but it means absolute s*** if you're not breaking it down. the guy sucked, hard, for 2 months this year. That absolutely crippled his stats for the season, that .190 BA is in no way, shape or form indicative of the way he's played for the past month or so. Right now, there's no way you can say Milledge is s***loads better than Anderson, unless you have some secret stat I don't know of.
  7. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) like i've said before - bro's a mets fan, i hear almost as much about them as i do about the sox (hyperbole) milledge is a five tool guy who's ranked #13 overall right now as far as prospects go. sure he wasnt amazing in his time up this year - but 12 ribbies, 3 homers, 2 doubles and 3 triples just goes to show what he is capable of. (and in any case even his .233 average is better than BA's) That does not make him better than Anderson right now. He may have a much higher upside than Anderson but as of right now, I don't see how you can say Milledge and his 4 walks are "s***loads" better than BA.
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) I didn't memorize the names. It wasn't that imporant to me. I just know you have. You know you have as well. This is not true.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Milledge of the .283 OBP? s***loads, huh? He walked 4 times in 94 plate appearances and displayed suspect defense in the outfield, I guess the 3 HRs in 85 ABs makes him better than Anderson.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) Try again Kalpse. I've seen you say the same thing about 15 other NL pitchers this year alone. Give me a few names.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) You know this how? The same way you KNOW that Sanchez would suck in the AL I guess.
  12. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) I counted 11 quality starts by Freddy this year. And in only one of those did he give up more than 8 hits and 4 walks. I realize the guy has been VERY inconsistant this year. I'm still not ready to give him up for mediocre relievers and prospects. I hope Kenny isn't, either. That doesn't change the fact that the stat is worthless. Who exactly is proposing a trade that would net the Sox "mediocre" talent in exchange for Garcia? The guy has a good amount of value right now, if the Sox move him, they'll be getting back good quality players not mediocre middle relievers.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Quality starts stats are the most BS stats there are. Which is why it should be disregarded any time someone feels the need to bring it up.
  14. 6IP, 3ER, 5R, 4BB, 1SO, 11H | GAME ERA: 4.50 WHIP: 2.50 This is a quality start.
  15. Hell I'm always looking for 1280X800 Wallpapers.
  16. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) No, it was Jim Duquette, you are in the wrong league. And the POINT IS, that you hear mets fans b****ing every day. Who the GM was is irrelevant. Yeah, Jim/Dan same difference. Minaya is not catching s*** for the f***ups of the previous GM. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) I thought it was Steve Phillips who pulled the trigger on that deal. It was the awkward transition between Phillips and Minaya, when Jim Duquette ruled all.
  17. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) ok, heres how I see it. Last 4 good mets prospects 1. Wright 2. Kazmir 3. Reyes 4. Milledge Minaya gets s*** every 5th day for losing one of them...no way he parts with the other, especially with the success that Reyes and Wright are having. HE MADE THIS MISTAKE WITH KAZMIR!!! It's a shame Dan Duquette traded Kazmir. Rendering your theory useless.
  18. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Hmm, he does terrible against righties (.235, .313, .375) and outdoors (.259, .325, .374) so I don't know if he'd be the best pinch-hitter. But he has done great at the Cell, albeit only 13 ABs, so it means nothing. I don't see his fielding stats right now, so I don't know about that. I'm not sure if this would be that good of a pickup. It would be a great pickup, Chris Burke has only started 133 games in his career, that's not even a full season. This guy has some great upside and would fit this team quite well. As of right now the Sox don't have a single player on the 25 man roster outside of Brian Anderson who can play CF, that's a serious problem if Ozzie feels the need to pinch hit for him in the 7th/8th inning of games. Chris Burke would be the second right handed bat off the bench and would be a legit CF to backup BA.
  19. Me likey, I've always had a soft spot for Chris Burke. The guy is only 26 I believe and plays all 3 outfield positions plus middle infield. He'd be incredibly valuable off the bench as a 4th OF and right handed pinch hitter which is something we don't have.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Plus, aside from his baserunning blunder that led to the game going 19 innings, he's been doing pretty darn good since getting more playing time. He's probably our best pinch hitter off the bench (although Cintron is pretty damn good and Ozuna has his spots as well) but Gload is a damn fine hitter. Although I would be the first to say he's in a tough spot considering we have thome and Konerko ahead of him. Pinch hitting this season: Mack: 5-10, HR, 1.415 OPS Ozuna: 2-5, HR, 1.400 OPS Gload: 2-10, .500 OPS Cintron: 1-6, .452 OPS
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) On that one I would agree. They can even have combinations of multiple people. However, Brandon and Brian are off limits to me. Yes, Brian as well.
  22. For Carl Crawford, they can have anyone under the age of 26 not named McCarthy. Take your pick of Fields, Heager, Broadway, Lummy etc I still see Brandon as being far too important to this team in the long run to deal him now.
  23. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) I remember when the Sox game thread last fall turned into the "Can Shingo escape the bases loaded nobody out jam"--I can't remember who he was with, seems like a NL team. He got 2 outs then gave up a hit I believe. That was the last I heard of him. Too bad. Good memories though. It twas the Mets
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) I doubt it. Thome was on an absolute tear for the first month or so and he'd have to hit another streak like that to stay on pace. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it... especially from a guy in his mid-30s who battled injuries all of last season. You don't think he can hit 20 HRs in the second half? I think it'll be hard for him not to get there.
