Hawk and DJ keep talking about how Garcia has lost velocity on his fastball but they have yet to say why. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) Nah, I fear they'd drift out over the plate. Or he'd plunk batter after batter only to be ejected after his 8th straight hit batsman. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Thats been obvious, but I've gotten tired of seeing our manager dick around with our combo. With our pitching sucking ass it becomes more important to make sure our team can field imo. We have enough bats in this lineup. It's just another example of Guillen not learning from his mistakes. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Basically about how much are pitching is underachieving this year. That they were a 10 last year, and at best, a 5.5-6 this year. f***ing homer. -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) This DFA fad is hilarious Especially seeing how most people on here probably didn't even know what it meant until recently and a lot of them still don't know what it means. -

I have absolutely NO confidence in Freddy Garcia to even go 5 innings today without allowing 8+ runs. -
QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) This is perplexing. All of you on here base your opinion on players solely on their statistics and nothing else? No one ever said that, there's a lot of factors that are taken into consideration when evaluating players, stats just happen to be one of them. If you just completely swear off all stats, you're doing yourself a great disservice. Even Mr. Intangibles himself Joe Morgan checks out a players stats every once in awhile.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) My god this thread has turned into gold. Oh the irony.. Seriously, pot meet kettle. I learned to love Buehrle threads long ago, the words "scary, very scary" come to mind.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) In picking the players that I like, yes personal prejudice is what matters. I don't like Buehrle, I love the White Sox. I like Vazquez. Is that so wrong? And btw, I think all stats are worthless in baseball. ERA, ERA+, RBI, ect. It was beat like a dead horse last year, but wins is the only thing that matters. Baseball is a game where the slightest change in the path of a ball, the speed of the ball, the hand eye cordination of the batter, and so on can change everything. So what were the determining factors when you decided you dislike Buehlre but like Vazquez? Just curious.

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) He's never been that great IMO. Obviously he is not going to pitch this awful all year, but I would be suprised if his ERA dipped below 4 the rest of the season. IMO Buehrle is very over rated by White Sox fans. Mark Buehrle has a career 128 ERA+, Roy Halladay 127. Their career numbers are incredibly similar and I doubt you'll be calling Roy Hallday overrated. I could make a long winded post full of numbers and s*** comparing him to other accomplished pitchers of the past decade but I'm thinking that might just be a waste of time.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Burnett had several injuries (and also needed Tommy John sugery) and was dismissed from his team for throwing them under the bus to the press. He's injury-prone and has a bad attitude - two very good reasons to not throw a $55 million contract at him. Whatever better "stuff" Burnett has, Mark has been tremendously more successful in terms of individual pitching performance, winning, and being a good teammate. His value is much higher than Burnett's. And he'll get more money than Burnett got but not $20M more. Don't you wonder why kerry wood will probably end up getting a nice sized deal after this season? GMs love guys with killer arms, they all think they'll be the one to get the most out of the guy no one else could tap into. Buehlre should get a nice payday but it will not be that much more than Burnett got. I'd say $13M at this point in time looks to be the safe bet. Barry Zito should give us a better idea of what Buehrle will command on the open market, they've had extremely similar careers and should get similar money in free agency.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Look at Burnett's stats. His career ERA is 0.10 points higher than Mark's, despite the fact that he pitched exclusively in the NL prior to this season. His career WHIP is also lower. Oh, and Burnett only pitched 200 innings TWICE in his entire freaking career... yet he still got 5 years/$55 million... from the freaking Blue Jays, of all teams. Given that, I don't think that 5 years/$75 million is a pipe dream for Buehrle. He'll only be 28 after next season and his career numbers blow away Burnett's. I'm not saying that the Sox should re-sign him at that rate, but the market will definitely force his value way above what Burnett got. Burnett got his contract soley based on his upside and pure stuff, the guy throws in the high 90's with a nasty breaking ball when healthy, a guy like that is always going to find a place in baseball. Burnett is a horrible comparison to Buehrle. Burnett has Ace quality stuff, Buehrle does not, it's really as simple as that.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) No, he'll get more than that. If Burnett got 5 years/$55 million, Buehrle will get 5 years/$75 million. Completely agree, and the fact that he's not in the top tier of pitchers will keep his price down far enough that JR won't shy away from re-signing him. Woah, lets not get carried away now, Mark Buehrle could make an absolute fortune on the open market simply based on his career record, injury history and reputation but a $15M per pitcher he is not. I see Mark comming away with a 4/$54M or 5/$65M deal at the most.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) What does Farnsworth throw? It'd be nice if he had the gas his brother has. Kyle has about 2 inches and 50 pounds on his brother and from what I remember Kyle's also got about 6-8 MPH on him.

I am going to be royally pissed if for whatever reason this organization believes Dustin Hermanson is ready to face major league hitters.
