  1. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) If you asked me about the Tigers chances of sticking a month ago I would say "They are gonna fade like a cheap sweater". Now, however I dont think that at all. Much as it pains me to admit it, they have a pretty kickass team over there. It's gonna be a really entertaining race this season to be sure and I wouldn't be shocked at all to see these 2 teams face off in the ALCS. I agree with you 100% Nuke.
  2. QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) It helps a team to dominate its closest competitor as the Sox did Cleveland last season. The Tigers' closest competitor owns a healthy 5-1 record over them. Oops. 5-1 being the key here, it's still incredibly early and there's a ton of head to head action to be played.
  3. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Again, I am not thinking about the SOX, or the Divison. I made this point in regards to the joker that said the Tigers will fade and battle the Twins for the Card. We are currently 11 games up on the Twins. Just because the Sox tanked in the second half doesn't mean the Tigers will. You were 15 up and held on. The Tigers are 11 on the Twins and they will hold on as well. I love how a 42-34 second half record constitutes tanking. The Sox ended up winning the division by 6 games last year, oh how horrible.
  4. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) It means nothing. Keep telling yourself the Tigers will fade because they sucked last year. A year without Rogers, Granderson, Zumaya, Verlander, Leyland, etc. It really has no bearing on this years team. You guys take it so personal. The SOX are great...they are the champs. I never said the Tigers are better. Insult because the team was bad? Please its a freaking game. Damn you're dense. Try reading my posts more closely before you make comments like this. Just keep playing the same f***ing tune in your head over and over again if it makes you feel better "they're all against us, they're all against us." I think I'm done with this thread.
  5. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Who cares about last year.. it means nothing. What you are saying about the Tigers this year, the Twins, Red Sox and Yankee fans were saying the same thing about the 2005 Sox. This is 2006. We are comparing 2006, not anything from the past. The past is ash..My W2 was huge last year..will it be huge this year? I dont know. What I do know isI need to sell my ass of to get to where I was last year. Your only as good as your last month. Right here-Right now. You can't just take into account 2006, everything before that does play in. The Tigers and Sox had a lot of the same players the last few years as they have this year and last. Track record is incredibly important. But I guess since your team has sucked for so long you'd rather not think about it but you have to. I don't mean this as an insult or anything but it's true. Just keep telling yourself that the "past is ash", like that means something.
  6. QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) I predict the Tigers will fall apart faster than one of its Big 3-built automobiles. My god you're completely delusional.
  7. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) If you speculate that the tigers will fade, I can easily speculate that the Sox will fade. They are mirror images, and in fact the Tigers are slightly better through 77 games. With that said, I do not think the Sox will fade. I don't think the Tigers will fade at all, as a matter of fact, the numbers prove that it'd be nearly impossible to do so. But this whole thing is about track record, the Sox kicked ass last season and won the World Series where as the Tigers have sucked for quite some time now. It really doesn't make sense to compare the two at this point, simply based on this.
  8. I don't see how Jeter is the definative choice over Tejada. Defense is a wash at best, Tejada has the power numbers and Jeter has the average/runs/SB. Also, you're wrong, Glaus has a higher OPS than A-Rod.
  9. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) I chose Glaus just because he represents more to his team, in my opinion. That team was desperate for right-handed thunder (although Rios and Wells both are above expectations). Whereas Crede plays on a deeper and better team. Both are having good years, Glaus has more pedigree, and I went with Glaus. 3rd is pretty deep with A-Rod, Crede, Glaus, Blalock, Chavez (slipping lately) all bunched up Mike Lowell as well.
  10. I've always thought of the All-Star game as more of a way to award players for great offensive first halves and if performances are close defense is the tiebreaker.
  11. I only have people starting who are on the ballot, also I chose 5 SP and 5 CL (Except for the NL where there are really no great closers) and did not take into consideration a rep from every team. KC, TEX, HOU, LAD and LAA do not have reps. Also, if you play for the Rockies your stats are automatically null to me, unless of course you're a pitcher. 13. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Anybody else notice that since June 23rd, Fox Sports in chicago has been off the air? I just noticed. Such a wonderful graphic on the screen relaying the information as well.
  14. Seriously though, what's with Garner and throwing chairs? He tossed a chair in the dugout during last year's world series as well. Damn, pick on an inanimate object your own size why don't ya.
  15. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) Dude, come back... we don't even like shoota! HAHA, that's just awesome. I think this is one thing that both Sox and Tigers fans can agree on.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) you realize they're from the NL east right? And appearantly Rolen is retiring which is news to me.
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) I'm sure that he could initially. But what about August and September? Young arms that aren't conditioned for 200+ innings tend to wear down in that period. Maybe B-Mac would've done as well as you think, but I'd rather Vazquez be out there. He's the better bet over the long run. It's laughable how one really bad start from Javy on national TV has turned into a "McCarthy would've been better" thread. Vazquez threw a few gems earlier this season and was pitching relatively well up until a few weeks ago, but apparently that doesn't matter anymore. :rolly I'm just saying McCarthy would have equal or better numbers than Vazquez right now, I'm certainly not saying I'd rather not have Javy.
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Kind of like Kip Wells' "dominance" in a limited number of starts in 1999? And speaking of "above-average pitching ability", Vazquez has pretty damn good stuff as well. I fully expect that B-Mac will be a very good starter one of these days, but I find it odd that some people point to a few good starts last season as "evidence" that he would've done better than Vazquez had he been given his spot this season. Considering what I've seen from McCarthy since he came up last year especially in September when he and Contreras carried this team, there's no doubt in my mind he could have started the year in the rotation and put up an ERA around 5 as Vazquez has done thus far.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) How do you figure? B-Mac still hasnt really proven himself in the bigs and everybody in our starting rotation is still locked up for next season. Buehrle is the closest one to f/a if im correct and id hope we would resign him of all our SP's. Also we have many other SP prospects too... Phillips and Haeger dominating AAA and Broadway, Lumsden, and to a lesser extent Liotta in AA. IMO McCarthy did prove him self by rallying off a streak of amazing outings like he did over the stretch run next year. With the amount of innings the Sox' starters have thrown especially over the past 2 years, there is bound to be a major injury or just a total collapse in effectiveness kind of like what we've seen from Garland and Garcia this year. If anyone goes down or sucks for an extended period of time there is not a single pitcher in our system who could step in like McCarthy. Phillips is probably the best option right now and he's never pitched a big league inning. I'd rather not be relying on Heager and a band of no-experience rookies to step in to the rotation in the middle of the season. Plus I don't want to see a pitcher like McCarthy go anywhere.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Im starting to become not as high on McCarthy as I once was... if we could add Tejeda I wouldnt mind parting with B-Mac. Think of the offensive power we would be.... Just remember letting BMac walk could f*** the rotation for years to come, people are allowing his less than impressive bullpen performances to cloud thier judgement, luckily KW isn't so foolish.
  21. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Based on what? His relative lack of experience and mediocre numbers out of the 'pen? :rolly His dominance in the starting role last season and his above average pitching ability.
  22. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Really? I've never heard him say it, but with his Spanish accent I just can't picture him pronouncing it in the Americanized version... Before the game when the players say their names it sure as hell sounds like he says yourebay.
  23. So which Sox player is gonna it next week?
