QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) If he's overpaid, wouldn't he be easier to acquire? The switch to the superior AL could be a problem. Too bad we don't have a hitting coach who could return him to the .308 hitter he was in 2004. He isn't necessarily overpaid in the eyes of the Pirates who have very few drawing cards as of right now, if he were on the Sox and had his current contract I'd be pissed. Just check out http://www.iratefans.com and you'll see why the Pirates really wouldn't want to move him, they're having enough trouble with pissed off fans now a days they can't afford to trade thier one flashy player especially if they're not getting a very nice package in return which I would never serve up to Pitt for Wilson. $20.2M over the next 3 years for a career .265/.305/.372 hitter. Just for the record Uribe is .257/.300/.423 and Cintron is .280/.318/.409.

Overpayed, overrated, expensive to trade for and plays in the weak NL, which makes switching over to the superior league in the middle of the season incredibly risky.

GAME THREAD 6-11-06 SOX vs INDIANS

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) That's a sexy lineup. Quite possibly the best of the year. Anytime ozzie wants to throw that lineup out there I will not second guess him one bit. -
What round were our current Sox drafted in?

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Couldn't find Montero, I think Oakland originally signed him in 2000, but I could be wrong. Agustin Montero was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 1995 by the Athletics. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) That $15 million difference between Manny and Crawford's yearly salary might have something to do with it. That and the fact that Wood has struggled a little bit with his batting average at AA. Not to mention the 10 year age difference.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) He is good, but just like Jenks (probably should had said that about him too) I want to see them do this for a whole season. You got to be crazy if you believe he'll keep this up. He's pitched way out of his mind right now. And especially considering this is his first year even closing whereas Jenks already has experience last year, (and in the playoffs) thus has more video footage on him. Papelbon has quite a few of his saves against weak teams as well (4 of his 20 are against the D-Rays, 20%.) Papelbon has 64.1 IP in his career whereas Jenks is has 67 so I'd say the amount of tape is about equal, Papelbon has succeeded on every level he has pitched at and has yet to show a bit of suckitude in the majors. I doubt he'll end the year with an ERA/WHIP under 1 but there's no reason for me to believe that he'll suddenly fall off even if he is pitching out of his mind right now. Papelbon has 5 saves (in 5.2 IP) against the D-Rays this year just for the record but at the same time he's pitched 7 innings against probably the best lineup in the AL right now, the Toronto Blue Jays he's allowed 1 run, 8 hits, 4K:0BB and has 4 saves against them, that's pretty damn impressive. He's also pitched 5.1 innings against his teams major rival, the Yanks, and has walked 2 while striking out 5 and not allowing a single hit or run.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I don't think any Tiger fan wouldn't say that Zumaya will be their future closer. I think he'll be a closer first than a starter IMHO. Zumaya, Jenks, Street, (I'll even add Papelbon even though I'm not sold on him) and other young studs will be some names we'll be hearing for a long time as great closers in the AL. Is Zumaya injured..?! You have insane standards, 0.30 ERA, 31K:4BB, 0.63 WHIP, 1.44 BAA, 20SV/21OP, 30.1 IP and you're not sold? You crazy. I mean Jenks only pitched 39.1 innings last year, Papelbon is close to that already.

I always used to get the red ice cream glove on a stick from the ice cream truck. It would have a gumball baseball in the middle of it and was quite the treat.

They are, I believe the owner of the D-Backs called out Grimsley on this, saying he practically stole from the team and that's he's a cheater or some s*** and he will not be getting his money. I don't see any forseeable way Grims gets any cash out of the Diamondbacks.

QUOTE(Beauty35thStreet @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) What's wrong with Hangar's conspiracy theory? I tend to agree with him. I think what he says is a lot more interesting than what the great majority of soxtalk posters post FUN!!

I was a SP until I totally f***ed up my elbow, I threw as many pitches as I could learn but had most confidence in my 2-seamer, circle change and slurve (which 1/2 the time I threw at below sidearm). My best asset was my many arm angles which I guess was part of my downfall along with throwing an inordinate amount of pitches for like a 6 year span. Whenever I wasn't pitching I played everywhere else especially middle infield, great defensively and fast but I showed hardly any power because I was always trying to shoot the ball into the right center field gap but didn't have much opposite field power.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Why? He probably for what ever reason feels the Sox will seek vengence, of course he's completely wrong.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) All that would have fit better here... Horrible commercial. The construction worker did look like a fat brian anderson though... How isn't this Sox related? Are you calling Jonathon Brandmeier a communist!?!?

QUOTE(SnB @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) OH MY GOD i have been singing that all day, my coworkers thought i was nuts. http://media.wlup.com/AV/video/tv_spot/jb_tv_5-06.mov I seriously hate you, the last thing I needed was an internet stream of that f***ing commercial, now I probably won't be able to help myself and I'll end up watching it a few times a day successfully burning it into my f***ing brain forever. I already try to avoid ESPN the best I can because they play the commercial constantly.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Plus I think Konerko was a minor league player of the year (not 100% on that, but I think he was). Konerko's minor league accomplishments include: 1997 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year 1997 Player of the Year (Triple-A - Baseball America) 1997 Triple-A All-Star Team (Baseball America) 1997 Most Valuable Player (Pacific Coast League - AAA) 1997 Pacific Coast All-Star Team (AAA) (Third baseman) 1996 Double-A All-Star Team (Baseball America) 1996 Texas League All-Star Team (AA) 1994 Northwest League All-Star Team (A) (Designated hitter) So yes you were correct, he was absolutely sick in '97. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) He still needs to hit at least .250 to justify being a big league centerfielder. And .250 sucks for a guy who doesn't steal bases. It will be nearly impossible for him to hit .250 for the year, maybe we should just shoot him now. I have no idea how Crede survived hitting .239 in '04.

How exactly is a 6.19 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and .310 BAA treading water? Seems to me he's drowning. I think some people might just be as delusional as Garland.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:32 AM) As much as I love Joe....it's really not a tough decision. Look at this effin lineup if you make that deal: Pods Gooch Thome Konerko Dye Cabrera Pierzynski Uribe/Cintron Anderson *dies* The only things keeping me from saying it's an easy decision are the monster drop off in defensive ability and Cabrera's s*** work ethic/attitude. Otherwise it's pretty damn easy.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) Yup, just came out today on Comcast... The odd thing is, the message showed up on the box at like 4 o'clock today though the channel showed up early in the morning.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) Do you have Comcast? Hopefully they finally came to terms... Yes, I have Comcast. I was flipping through the channels this morning and stopped on 203 which happened to be ESPN2HD. Quite awesome.

Why does everyone keep bringing up Josh Fields?
Kalapse replied to palesox38's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well first, we have Crede under control until after the '08 season so that shouldn't be a huge concern right now. Also he said that he will dictate any deal not his agent. One more thing on this, JR is not afraid to spend money and Crede is now emerging as a very good 3B, JR will give him what he deserves in a long term contract, no doubt. I don't think there's a lot of people who want to move Fields, the guy has finally turned it on this year and is absolutley kicking ass in AAA but if he can be moved for a very large piece, stud player, that could help the Sox win this year while we're still in prime position to compete for a title it has to be considered. Fields is a great prospect right now and it's great that he's comming around, hell it'd be awesome to see him replace Pods in LF eventually but if he can be moved for a stud major leaguer who would help solidify the big league team I'd be all for moving him in a trade. -
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Ozzie was more concerned about BA's confidence. He didn't want to ruin the kid. Hell, if you've ever even heard the guy talk you'd know that he's not shaken up all that much right now. He's making fun of himself during interviews (great sense of humor) and he realizes he's sucking at the plate but he also knows that he's helping the team win during every damn game he plays in with his defense. I doubt Oz was worried about BA's feelings, he's not Arnie Munoz.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) I'm gonna go 20% Brian's catch - 80% Dye's hitting for this win... True, because Dye's HR is what got the team to the 8th where they were at but if Brian doesn't make that catch, JD doesn't come up to the plate with a chance to give the team the lead.
