QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) Confirming the deal or confirming that there's speculation? That there's a very good chance he'll be heading to the Cubs very soon. It's basically a done deal.

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Perhaps, but Lowell's numbers are still better than Crede's. Or do numbers not matter either? His numbers aren't that much better than Crede's to make up for the fact that Crede probably plays the best defense at 3B in the AL and possibly 2nd behind Rolen for all of baseball. Defense should mean something when it comes to this.
-
Yes, Boers and Bernstein are confirming this.

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) I agree with you mostly, except for Crede. Lowell is having a better offensive year AND he is a gold glove winner. Haha, you act like Gold Gloves mean something. Do yourself a favor and ignore that little fact, GGs are completely useless. Unless of course you think Palmero deserved his and Hunter deserved his last year then more power to ya.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Nobody asked for Anderson. How do you know this? BA was by far the most pro ready prospect we had and Kenny knew if he was going to move Rowand he was going to need another great defensive replacement and BA fit the bill. I really don't think anyone knows that either of those teams did not ask about Anderson.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) Any other nuggets to pass along Kalapse? I only heard the little clip they played during the update, I turned off the radio a while ago. I suppose since it was Mike Murphy who was asking the question that there really was nothing else of note. QUOTE(pcullotta @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) This is kinda interesting....Brian's Stats at the Cell: .256 Avg | .333 OBP | 3 HR | 9 RBI | .488 SLG | .821 OPS I never thought to look those numbers up. It's not that he's killing the ball at home but those numbers are pretty servicable for a 9 hitter. For comparisons sake, here are Juan's numbers at the Cell last year: .234 Avg | .285 OBP | 10 HR | 40 RBI | .422 SLG | .707 OPS Granted Anderson's numbers suck on the road this year, I just thought it was interesting to see those numbers. Brian is right on pace with Juan's (9th hitter last year) HR's and RBI's and he actually has a higher AVG and OBP (at the cell). An .821 OPS in the 9 hole is beyond serviceable, if he only played at home he'd be one of the best 9 hole hitters in baseball. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Did he specifically say BA wouldn't be demoted? If so, given that negotiations had broken off with Garland's people and Contreras's people, and we had confidence in Boone Logan and he wasn't going anywhere, I'd say B.A. has a few days left. He said that he'll be sticking with BA until he loses confidence in himself. He mentioned Brian's great glove and how a trade to replace him is unrealistic. -
There was absolutely no reason to not walk Pujols right there, runner on third 1 out in the 3rd. Pujols hits an absolute scorcher up the middle and Birk makes a great play to get Pujols at first while the run scores making it 2-1. The Astros are lucky they only gave up 1 right there.

Hafner, Konerko >>> Ortiz Iguchi >>> Loretta, Cano Crede, Gaus >>> Lowell Wells >>> Damon, Sheffield, Ramirez, Suzuki Dye >>> Damon, Sheffield, Ramirez, Suzuki All Sox players have to do is be in the top 3-4-5 as we near July and the votes will begin to even out. Early on in the voting fans tend to vote strickly for the players on their own team, once we get closer to the All-Star game the more deserving players tend to rise to the top. Sox players have already gotten a ton of votes Konerko, Iguchi and Crede are all 3rd at their positions and Uribe and Pierz are 5th. The real shame is Dye at 10, the guy is having an amazing year and still doesn't get any recognition.

It's not a rumor, it's Mike Murphy completely pulling some dumb f***ing idea out of his ass.

Albert Pujols is currently strolling to the plate on ESPN. And he just hit the umpire at 2B.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) And this has to do with Brian Anderson how? How does the move of Josh Fields to left and Pods to CF help Iguchi put down a bunt. Brian Anderson's fundamentals seem to be fine to me. And Brian Anderson is the culprit of this bad fundamental baseball? I am just not understanding this. Unless we are getting off the topic of moving Pods to center and bringing up Josh Fields to play left. Did you even read the last few pages, the thread has moved off the ridiculous original topic. Determining the teams biggest weakness is currently being discussed. -
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Hey. I have a life. I f***ing hate Cubs fans, all right. Geez. Haha, he was talking about bat girl. Nice reaction though.

For whatever reason, I have Mike Murphy on right now and he's offering up one of the most ridiculous questions I've ever heard. Would you trade Brian Anderson straight up for Juan Pierre? Is there a single person on this board who would make that trade?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) That ball that he got where Belliard tagged from 2nd, would've been a run scored with anyone else there. That's the exact situation I'm referencing, that ball was crushed into the right centerfield gap and I just said "BA's got it", you know the guy is going to get to anything anywhere near him and it's just amazing that he does it everytime. It's remarkable that he's able to leave his hitting woes at the plate and go out there and play great defense, while most players would bring their s***ty offense with them onto the field and cause them to make mental errors out there. Also, the offbalance throw he made to 3B after catching that ball was quite impressive even if he didn't get Belliard.
-
It's just so awesome to have a ball smoked into CF but be able to say "BA's got it". You don't have that luxury with anyone else currently in the organization let alone in all of baseball. That sort of defense is invaluable but at the same time, at some point he needs to start producing at the plate.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) Im sure he will be around his career numbers. Also, Thornton doesnt need to just be a LOOGY. He can basically pitch to RH and LH batters. If Polite is struggling, its obvious Ozzie has the confidence in Matt to put him out there against anyone. So you're saying Politte is going to have around a 3 ERA the rest of the year? He hasn't shown any improvement of late, I don't see him just suddenly snapping out of his suckiness and becoming a very good reliever any time soon. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) What did the pen do last night to make everyone want to get rid of Anderson and bring up a rookie who has never played the OF. The pen was fine last night, people want to get rid of Anderson because there has already been talk of him going down for a few days now, which does not appear to be true and he is currently being platooned in centerfield. He had another bad offensive night yesterday and the team lost so everyone freaks out. I doubt many people will deny that the bullpen is weak right now, Thornton was god like last night but the rest of the bullpen is nowhere near where he is right now. -
I love the JC24, looks pretty cool. But I have to agree the background is pretty plain.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) What are these problems you speak of? Does everyone understand that we are going to lose over 60 games this year most likely? Anyone who has watched Clifford, Cotts, McCarthy and the rest at times this year should know that we have some problems in the pen. Cliff is never going to match what he did last year and Cotts more than likely won't this year either, that's a problem. Cliff was big for this team last year and so far this season he has been just horrid, he looks like he has zero confidence right now. -
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) I know. I was asking what his On-base % was. Slug % is just total bases/offical AB, which could technically be as high as 4.000 Haha, I read "what's" as "that's". Give me a break I havn't posted in like 2 days.

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) If he's getting on base more than humanly possible, maybe he should be called up. I was going to do this but I felt it would be over the top for me to use that much sarcasm over the course of an hour. -

Jason, please never mention Erstad's name again. The guy may not even be comming back this year due to his ankle (depends on how he reacts to the cortozone shot he recently had). The guy has always been a mediocre offensive player and now that he can barely walk plays a below average CF. I'd much rather have Mack starting out there. I wouldn't want him on the roster simply due to the fact that he may get an AB in a clutch situation, which would not turn out well. Also, would you be willing to move any of our top prospects to the Twins for Torii Hunter? -

QUOTE(Thunderin @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:44 AM) I think the .329 average. the 9HRs, the 29RBI's, the .598 slugging %, the 1.021 OB% and the 98TB will translate alot better to the majors than Anderson's numbers. Do you care at all about defense?
