Jenks is a very sane person.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Whats going on? you are mocking me!!!! It is a vent LAY OFF! My point is... do we not have enough in our farm to get major help? We do have enough, it's just the teams that are willing to trade right now are still looking to win in the near future and minor league players don't necessarily help them achieve that.
-
You said "What is going on?" 3 times. Kind of overkill. Look at the O's - Marlins trade. The Marlins are supposidly giving up two ML players (Burnett, Lowell) and gaining 4 ML players (Larry Bigbie, Jorge Julio, Steve Reed and Steve Kline) only one minor leaguer in the trade going to the Marlins (Hayden Penn). Teams still want to contend this year and next (FLA, SFG, PHI) so if they're going to give up ML talent they want ML talent in return so they can still contend.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) No they re-worked his deal in the last off-season, so he's got a team option for next season IIRC. You got it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) One of my favorite things to occur this season was that we kept Jenks on the roster, and let Shingo go. It would have been so easy for KW to just send down Jenks, and keep the obviously washed-up Shingo. That move took a lot of balls by KW and Ozzie, and I'm thrilled with the decision. Did you just compliment KW and Ozzie? What's the world comming to?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:36 PM) Exactly. DBAHO, I think you and I are on the same page with all of this. Again, in no way am I saying his career is over before it really ever started. Atleast you have the ability to reason unlike some people who are just stubborn as hell.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Based on this season, yes, Cotts is better than Marte but the difference is that Marte has shown previous MLB dominance in which case BMac hasn;t shown in AAA or MLB. And the AAA for Cotts was a typo....
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) If Gio continues success in A, succeeds in AA, has a wonderful ST and then is put in BMac's position, it would be plain stupid. BMac was sorely misused and mistreated. I agree, BMac should not be in AAA, therefore, further backing my belief that he is not ready and has amounted to nothing yet... BMac should be in AA.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) IT'S TOO f***ING LATE NOW HUH? You can't change that s***. He IS in AAA, he WAS brought up, he DIDN'T produce, and that is it. He hasn't done s*** in my book. Spring Training, like YOU said, is just Spring Training. His 2004, 2003, and 2002 stats mean jack s*** right now. Wow, Sammy Sosa had 60 home runs in 2003, he is awesome! You just don't get it. I'm done.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) I never said he wasn't a major prospect. He IS the SOx top prospect but he is, like fathom said, very overrated. He got his shot and underachieved. I am not giving up on him whatsoever. Like I said, I wish him success with the Sox but he just hasn't shown me anything. BTW, the only stat that matters is Wins and Losses. 3-7 with Charlotte, 0-1 with the Sox. Besides, he has a 6.745 combined ERA in AAA/MLB. God damn it. He shouldn't even be in AAA right now. He should have started the year in AA. He has struggled at Charlotte which is a f***ing bandbox and he struggled in the majors because he shouldn't even be there. We shouldn't even be having this discussion seeing how he should still be in B-Ham putting up sick numbers and dominating AA.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) I could care less about credibility, but right now, McCarthy is overrated. Doesn't mean he'll always be overrated, but in his stint with the Sox this year, he underachieved. He never should have pitched in the majors this year. He pitched lights out in spring training and was rushed along. They put his development on hold and tried to fill a spot in the rotation with a AA pitcher. He wasn't ready. He is NOT overrated.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Oh, because what you presented in that post offered so much to that argument... Yes, go look at his numbers from 2003 and 2004 in the minors and tell me he's underrated. When you pitch that well and dominate like he did you deserve to be touted as a major prospect.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) So, what? He is a Spring Training pitcher? Can you guarantee me that he will be consistent in the future? He is highly overrated IMO. He has a great Spring Training and all of the sudden, he is the best Sox prospect ever! Did you see his K to BB ratio in the minors? Did you see how many strikeouts he had? Did you see his ERA? Have you ever looked at his stats? Do you even know who he is? He is not overrated. It was not just 1 spring training, it was 2 years in the minors. You have now lost all credibility, not that you had any to begin with.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) So what the f*** happened? He was AMAZING in Spring Training. I still remember the game he had against the Rangers with 8 of their 9 starters in the lineup and he shut them down. What happened? In Hawk's words: "Don't tell me what he's done. Tell me when he's done it." IT WAS SPRING f***ING TRAINING.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Because of the likes of Dontrelle Willis and Mark Prior, every SP prospect that gets called up now is automatically expected to perform on the MLB level and that's unfair (especially if they're not ready). This time last year he was pitching for the Winston - Salem Warthogs. Now people want to trade him because he didn't pitch well in the majors. It's sad really.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Like I said, I am not giving up on him. But, he got his chance, in 3 different places and has only been successful when it doesn't count at all, Spring Training. Trade when the value is high. McCarthy is 21 years old and was in A ball last year. I still think he should be in B-Ham right now. He needs to be in the minors for the nex year maybe 2. He was rushed along because of 2 great years in the minors and an amazing spring training. You're making yourself look like an ass right now.
