  1. Since this is a WCIU game, I'll be listening over MLB Gameday Audio tonight. Since I moved away from the Chicago area recently, this will be the first season in which I can't watch every White Sox game. =/
  2. I'm not sure we have the offense to be much more than a .500 team. This is last year's team with less power and inferior on-base potential, all done in the name of "versatility."
  3. The Twins will take three of four against the Angels in Anaheim while we lose two of three to the Indians at home. It's obvious who the team to beat in this division is.
  4. f***! And I was on such a high for the last two days. Oh well, take the series tomorrow.
  5. The wait for this game has been unbearable. I hate off days.
  6. Wow. You could not have asked for a more encouraging Opening Day.
  7. I'll be the first to agree that the strategy argument in favor of no-DH is often overstated, but I like how pinch-hitting and the bench play a much greater role in the NL than in the AL (teams managed by Ozzie Guillen notwithstanding). It's a purer form of baseball. On the other hand, there are plenty of arguments in favor of the DH, chiefly that it protects pitchers from injury and prolongs careers. I enjoy both forms of baseball and think they both deserve to exist, so I prefer the current setup. I like the fact that there is a meaningful difference between the two leagues.
  8. So this was all much ado about nothing. What a letdown. Until Damon officially signs with Detroit, I'll still hold out a little hope that something could happen... but this pretty much seals the deal.
  9. Since there's at least one other country fan here maybe I won't feel alone. Clint Black - Killin' Time Hank Williams - Lost Highway Alan Jackson - Chasin' That Neon Rainbow Dale Watson - Whiskey or God George Jones - If Drinkin' Don't Kill Me (Her Memory Will) Hank Williams Jr. - Family Tradition Randy Travis - 1982 George Strait - Unwound Robert Earl Keen - The Road Goes on Forever John Anderson - Straight Tequila Night Not necessarily my ten favorite songs, just my most played. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) This is true, although I do like the deep twang country stuff, the pop country is def. my favorite. I once loved mainstream pop country, but then I turned fourteen (I kid, I kid).
  10. None. Naturally there are some teams I like better than others but there's no team I can be said to root for other than the Sox.
  11. In 2005, the famous Pierzynski walk-off against the Dodgers. My dad and I watched most of the game together, but Elmer Dessens was putting on a clinic, so we decided to go out to the field in our neighborhood and play some ball. We got back just in time to see the ninth. Good times.
  12. The 2000 team was the team that got me interested in baseball and made me a Sox fan for life. The first game I ever went to was against the Angels and the score was something crazy like 13-12. This was before we had Internet so I remember having to rely on the newspaper for Sox-related news and when the next game was. I remember when the Sox traded Brook Fordyce for Charles Johnson and Harold Baines. I can still recall waking up one morning and my dad telling me "Dyce is gone" (I had latched on to him as my favorite player), and I was saddened until Johnson got a huge late-inning hit soon after he was acquired that made me like him. I can remember Herbert Perry hitting a bases-clearing double one game and Hawk declaring "the Milkman delivers!" I was sad when the regular season ended because I was only ten and new to baseball so I didn't really understand the concept of playoffs (don't ask). I remember playing All-Star Baseball 2001 for the Nintendo 64 and playing season mode as the Sox. Whenever I was losing I would restart so I ended with something like a 145-17 record. Good times. When the Sox were mediocre from 01-02 I didn't pay as much attention (being only 11/12 years old), but I can still recall moments like Frank getting injured, the Todd Ritchie trade, signing David Wells, etc. I still followed the team through the news and my dad but didn't watch many games. When the Sox were in the hunt again in 03 my interested was recaptured, and by 04 I became the hardcore fan I am today.
  13. Last night's game was very exciting, but a lot of the big moments were the result of defensive lapses, mental gaffes, fluke plays, and bad umpiring. In contrast, the blackout game was two teams playing fantastic baseball for nine innings. So while I find last night's game to be very entertaining, I think the blackout game was a much better played baseball game.
  14. I abhor both teams and hope whoever makes it is promptly swept out of the playoffs. That being said, I voted Twins, just because it would be hilarious to see the Tigers choke away the division after being in the lead for so long. Furthermore, as much as I hate the Dome, Punto, Morneau, etc., I'd rather see a low-payroll team like the Twins in it than yet another big payroll team like the Tigers.
  15. LOL @ guy shouting "64 million!" to Rios. Anyone else hear that?
  16. Losing two out of three at home to the lowly Orioles. Pathetic. Thanks for showing up, Buerhle, offense.
