  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 12:27 AM) Well, I lost...because they had to throw to Jimmy Graham in garbage time. He only had four catches the whole game and that is why I lost by 2 points.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) Not even close -- he was a +3.5 runner by UBR (EDIT: which is a stat that factors everything, including taking extra bases on singles and the like), an above average figure that was third best on the team behind Ramirez and Rios. That includes 20 SB at 71% success rate, which is just above the line for positive value added in SB/CS. How many times did De Aza get thrown out being stupid this year or doubled off a base. He is 30 years old and very replaceable.
  3. Keep Tank younger and more upside. Let De Aza run the bases like a fool somewhere else.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) He was the second best position player on the team in 2013 by fWAR. On a 99 loss team and WORST baserunner in the league. Goodbye ADA
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) The Sox need to move out a lot of dead wood: Ramirez and De Aza for sure; Dunn would be number 1, but it's not realistic. We need a new culture here. Move Viciedo and Beckham too. Tired of players that swing at the ball in the dirt. Sox need a lot more OBP too, as well as power. I'm fine with trading Santiago if you get full value. De Aza has to go.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) What if the Sox signed Abreu and McCann and traded Santiago and something for Lawrie. How would the team stack up at that point? As bad as this team seems, a couple of hitters, guys like Viciedo, Garcia and/or Beckham stepping up, and they are a pretty good team again. Beckham is as good as he will ever be unfortunately. That ship has sailed.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) We can probably forget about the Sox signing high-profile free agents, including Abreu. The Sox are going to have to make smart trades, smaller free agent signings, and gasp, actually draft and develop some position players. Garcia and Semien look to be a good start at rebuilding the offense, but this is probably going to take a few years to get back to contention. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that the Mets are scouting Jose Abreu in the Dominican Republic. Along with a whole bunch of other major league teams. Baseball America's Ben Badler wrote early Monday that the Rangers "have the inside edge if they want to sign Abreu" but the Red Sox, Nationals, Pirates, White Sox, Giants and Mets have all now been linked. Abreu is a 26-year-old power-hitting first baseman from Cuba. Per Rotoworld
  8. Need a catcher bad.............First baseman are easier to find.
  9. Give away Gavin Floyd can take himself somewhere else in 2014...........Good bye.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) As we discuss these coaching situations, and the actions of the FO bringing former players back into the fold, I can't help but feel that the 800 lb. gorilla is ultimately being ignored. Specifically, is JR, as he ages, running the team more and more like a family, and less and less like a business, as he needs to? Position player drafting and development philosophies throughout our org. need a serious enema, but will RH be able to do the housecleaning that's necessary? Just one of many ?'s I have about our future. Is the "Reinsdorf Ring of Loyalty", as flavum hilariously called it, inhibiting us from making the necessary changes? When I see what the Pirates have accomplished this year by lowering BABIP Against through defensive positioning in conjunction with pitching strategy, and what Maddon accomplishes in this area annually, it seems obvious that we seriously need some new approaches to get with the times. The way we seemingly value power more than hit tool/OBP in our draft/development looks like a strategy better suited to 2000, than to 2013 onward. Does it trickle down from a narrow "we play in a HR hitters park, therefore, we need to develop HR hitters" mindset, rather than a (preferably to me) "become a good hitter FIRST and trust that the power will come" philosophy? I fear that we won't get to where we all want to be until JR moves on. Probably a topic for a new thread, but I'm lazy. Very true time to think outside the White Sox box.

    2013 TV Thread

That was great finale all the stuff was not going to happen In the first 40 minutes. I thought it wrapped up loose ends nicely. Having withdrawals already. That is how a show should end.

  17. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 29, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) I wish I could go today. No matter how bad the team is, I always miss baseball over the winter. I missed baseball all this summer Sox never did show up.
  18. Hahn said the rest of the staff stays, Manto is not the only one who should be canned.
