Official NBA Playoffs Thread

It'll be interesting to see how Avery Johnson has his team rally after this loss. Game 2 was unbelievable with how the Mavericks came out and played. While I don't see another Game 2 in the making for the Mavericks, I think most of us know they'll be ready to come out and play once again. -

And San Antonio surives. That 2nd half was the way the Spurs wanted to play. They only allowed 40 points to the Mavericks in the 2nd half. -

2 Jumpballs in a row, the last one didn't look right at all. Dallas ball with 2 seconds left. -

Down to the wire just like most of the games this series. I'm starting to get a feeling Dallas is going to win this one just like games 3 and 4. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) They are having problems because the Mavericks are a lot better than they are. However I give the Spurs credit, they are playing GREAT ball and staying in these games despite being outmanned talentwise. I wouldn't go as far as saying they're a lot better. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) Spurs starting to take control. Up 10. Yikes, this series is gonna go back to Dallas. Mavericks within 3, if this series goes to Game 6 in Dallas, and San Antonio wins that one, I think they'll also win Game 7 back at home. But the Spurs have to win Game 5 before any of this can happen. -
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Yea, LF is a lot less important than 3B defensively, and part and parcel of that is how easy it is to play. Most players that show defensive weaknesses but excellent hitting are moved down the defensive spectrum in the minor leagues. Like others have said, it happens all the time. If he has the arm for 3B, he has the arm for LF easy. Taking 50 fungos a day from the OF will make him a MLB capable LF in a year provided he projects as an above average OPS guy. Again, this timetable fits perfectly with Pods expected (and IMO rightful) departure in 2007. Yeah right now I want Pods to be around and when the time comes, it comes. I'll obviously be looking forward to the future but now I along with most others I assume are looking at the present.

If Carlos Lee can move out there and be somewhat decent, Josh Fields should have no problem.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) I would love it to see the jack asses in D-Town go down. Bron for Pres. The guy's getting better and better. Who knows how much better he can get. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) I don't know what would be worse if Thome gets hurt: the fact that Thome would be hurt or the fact that KW would trade 2 or 3 more prospects to get Everett back for the 3rd time. lol wow getting Everett again. Why don't we just get Roberto Alomar out of retirement and make it complete.

What do the Spurs have to do to win a game? Duncan goes into the half 11 for 11 with 28 points but it's all tied up at 57. -
Who is your favorite player from 80's, 90's, and 00's?
WilliamTell replied to SoxFanInDallas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
OK, here are some more obsure names that I liked. Most of them only played a season or two with the Sox. Players I really liked during their time with us: 90's-Danny Tartabull, Lyle (Big Swing) Mouton, Noberto Martin, Roberto Hernandez, and Alex Fernandez, and last and probably least talent wise, Mike LaValliere. Players I liked but not favorites during their time with us: 90's-Ruben Sierra, Kirk McCaskill, Wilson Alverez, Julio Franco, Mike Cameron and Albert Belle (yes I liked him when he was with us.) -
Yeah our bullpen isn't very good but I also don't see who we could really trade right now.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 17, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) I did a research paper on both the Black Sox and the widespread gambling in baseball in spring of 2004 (my senior year of high school). Wish I still had it on my computer, because I'd post it. Has a ton of references and such, very good stuff. Anyways, the 1919 Black Sox WERE NOT the first team to throw games, or throw them in a world series, not even close. In fact, many believe (with some proof) that the 1906 and 1918 Cubs not only threw the World Series, but made it even more obvious than the 1919 White Sox did, but nobody was looking for it yet (here's to you Mountain Landis). So yes, when people say our Sox in 1919 were the first to throw a World Series, that is WAY WAY wrong. It's just sad that Shoeless Joe is banned for life for doing something that AT LEAST half a dozen other men in the hall of fame also did. And that's assuming Shoeless Joe actually threw the games and took the money, which we aren't for sure about.....I mean Shoeless Joe was a great player, but he was illiterate and not really the type that could defend himself as well as a player now would be able to. That would've been awesome to read. Maybe this is the Cubs curse, not the Billy Goat or whatever else they can think of.

QUOTE(Beltin @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) It is a major distraction at best and interleague play has lost its luster. I know it is probably here to stay, but I much prefer playing the AL all season over dealing with the NL and all the hassles of interleague play. I know ownership likes the sellouts with the Cubs but I think spread out over the course of a season, extra games with other top teams from the AL will make up the difference from those 3 games. I especially think they should cut all the intercity BS back to a three game series that alternates each year. See I actually don't mind the intercity/interstate rivals playing 6 games a year. What I don't like seeing is us playing San Francisco or Florida (even though I'd take it this year since Florida is terrible.) If we're going to have interleague play I'd prefere it to be like AL Central vs NL Central. Plus I'd really like to play Milwaukee every year since they used to be in the division. -
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ May 17, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Torii Hunter Jim Edmonds ...to name a couple more. Delmon Young just to name the best outfielder out there.

I'm all for suspending him, it was obvious he was throwing at him, he must suck if it takes him like 3 times. -
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) I don't know about 'Poor Shoeless Joe'. He conspired with men about fixing baseball games. Whether he gave his all isn't really the point. The big problem was the Sox players were some of the best, and they were paid by Comiskey as if they were some of the worst. Supposedly the season before, Eddie Cicotte came within 1 win of a $10,000 bonus, but Comiskey had him benched at times, to make sure he didn't get the bonus. So the owners were part of the problem when it came to gambling. I'm saying "Poor" because I'm almost positive even without evidence that there were many other players outside of the White Sox organization doing the exact same thing. Maybe it wasn't as high stakes as the World Series but I'm assuming there were others aswell.

QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) A crazy Tigers stat. Jim Leyland already has more five or more game winnings streaks (4) than ANY Tigers manager since Sparky Anderson. lol unbelievable.......actually I guess I can believe it but that's still insane.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) It's funny how Marion's so good. Dude's got such an ugly shot, but it's always worked. aslong as it goes in the hoop I guess, haha. -
Poor Shoeless Joe. I wonder how often games were being thrown back then anyways.
-
This is a very tough division. I kept thinking the Tigers would slow down but now I'm not so sure. It very well could be a 3 team race plus the Twins just outside of that. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
