  1. 8 inning 5 hits no runs. Frame this Guthrie, it isn't happening again.
  2. Amazing the focus that the players get down in the 9th inning.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Hawk quit. He is in the bathroom finishing up what he started in the booth.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) And he also gets to play nearly every game no matter what Dunn needs Konerko to hit 400 again so can get fastballs grooved down the cock.
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Robin, also your move Dunn could hit .150 with a .280OBP and he won't shake from the 3 hole. They are going to hope that he just figures it out again.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Rios has a bad back, and there's a lot of games you can always look back at as season changers. This series wouldn't even be close to some of the worse losses on the year. The Astro's series at home, the cubs series at home.
  7. And the broadcast team is doing their part. Guthrie is now Santana in his prime.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) In the long run having Quintana strong and ADA healthy trumps a bad one game, overall. In the long run wasting quality starts against terrible teams is how the golf game gets better in October.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) 10 years now and running Sox hitters good for what ale's you. The orioles ad a pitcher who a few years ago was on the verge of getting release. He shut us down in dominating style and then got released a week later.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) It baffles me how Guthrie could have been so bad. We specialize in turning pitchers with era's north of 7 into Cy Young.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) How many balls have we just popped straight up today? WTF? We are hacking at anything near the plate. Working a count is foreign to us in this series.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Thankfully we have him batting there instead of AJ or Rios (when healthy). I love the point someone made recently about 2005 and moving Dye into the 3rd spot. They shouldn't have done that. It broke up our lefty righty thing.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) Invisible bat, shades of '11 He hasn't done s*** for a while. When Konerko was crushing the ball he would get pitches to hit. Now it's just throw it knock high and let him get himself out.
  14. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Yeah the Tigers have that esprit d'corps now ever since that walk off 5 runs they scored against the Indians. It's very bad news for us. Well they got lucky. They are facing he Yanks. Meanwhile we have to contain this hornets nest of a pitching staff that the Royals are throwing out there. Velocity, plus pitches, and hitting the edge of the cap. I don't know who is giving this Guthrie fella this high era.
  15. The path to the division has been to beat your division, beat up on the weak teams including the NL, and playing 500 against the good teams. This team can play well against good competition and then plays down to the bad teams. This has been part of an organizational flaw that repeats itself. Sure a bad team can have a good series. We have lost to this team a bit too much over the years for this to be a fluke.
  16. Our inability to beat the weak teams of the NL and the Royals are going to put the Sox in a Jam.
  17. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) This is laughable. Guthrie 0-9 hasn't won since May 31st. That's about to change young man! has he ever thrown a CG? Might as well get that accomplished tonight as well... Garfien was talking him up after the game on how the sox know they have their work cut out for them.
  18. I guess that we have promoted the royals as the new look twins. A team that we tip our cap to while taking pre-game batting practice. I mean who can hit such vaunted pitchers as Chen and Guthrie. This is a team that is in our division and someone we should thump.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) That game really stunk tonight, at least the seventh inning on. I love Jake Peavy don't get me wrong. But it's difficult for that guy to every be bailed out of games by his bullpen because of his refusal to come out of games. He doesn't give Coop or Robin a chance to rescue him in an inning because he won't come out. I know a lot of times he pitches out of late jams, but let's just say tonight Coop had a feeling it was time to get jake out of there after one hit in the seventh inning instead of the fourth or fifth hit?? It was too late to save Jake. Am I right or wrong on this one? He isn't in charge, the manager is. And it's his job to weigh the game situation, not mr. Emotion.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) Sox are 5-1 against the Mariners. Tigers are 1-5. Same deal. How about the Tigers are 7-4 against the Sox. That may be more important. The mariners are not in our division. Having a team that you irrationally struggle against in your division is a recipe for disaster.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) The best hitter should hit in the 4th hole. The 4th and 5th spots get more opportunities to drive in runs than any other position in the lineup. This is proven through Markov chain analysis. I'm alright with the way the lineup is constructed right now. I'd think a swap of A.J. and Dunn would be good though. Dunn has a .290 OBP with a .715 OPS in the second half. That is not functional no matter what algorithm you use.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) The reason he hasn't put Rios at 3 is because Dunn breaks up the string of right handers at the top of the lineup. If he puts Rios at 3, he'll end up hitting Dunn at 4, which is even worse because he's not going to hit Dunn 5th and A.J. 6th. That's a dumb reason. You put your best hitter in the 3 hole. I could care what hand he was born with.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Heck, I'd put Dunn after Konerko with how bad Adam's looking. I was thinking about flipping AJ and Dunn.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) Yes. It's pretty obvious to everyone. Except for those in charge.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) I couldn't agree more DeAza Youk Rios Dunn Kong AJ Viciedo Ramirez Beckham
