  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) He's the long man. I would imagine Dotel is unavailable today, so they may be why they had him go an extra inning. He's not that great, but the 11th or 12 man on any staff isn't going to be. He's fine for his role. This is by definition what a long man should do, eat innings in games like this when your starter has issues. If it gets close, then you will see the A team out there trying to win it.
  2. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) People need to stop beating the organization over the Owens experience. He's a guy who fits the leadoff bill, and in this climate with that type of guy being rare, you have to take a look. But all in all, the organization didnt put him out there in a way that held anyone back. He has barely played major league games for us considering his age. Everyone says what if he didnt get injured? Trust me, after the spring CQ had, nothing was going to hold him off somehow getting into that lineup after a little while. How does he fit the leadoff bill, because he is fast. Lots of fast guys in the minors, in fact there are a lot that are faster than Owens.
  3. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Gavin is just going to have to try and grind his way through a few more innings. The tigers listen to your request by making Gavin work for 5 pitches as they follow up his all over the place performance with swinging away.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) I've seen a couple of 93 and one at 96 after he was pissed off after the homer, when he was facing Inge. Cold weather...Gavin just doesn't seem to be loose and he has no confidence with his command and he's standing straight up (as noted by Hawk and Stone). HOME RUN DERBY. So much for the theories about Quentin's wrist not being ready to go. The natural thing that happens to pitchers when they have command problems is to aim the ball. You drop velocity, and try to force the pitch into zone. Then sometimes, your command gets worse and it waterfalls from there.
  5. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) 6-4 gavin floyd reminds me of a guy who doesn't really understand pitching at all, he just has native ability and throws what the catcher says, like a robot Whats to understand. Catcher calls the game, you pick up the target, execute your mechanics, and try to hit the spot. Its not like a pitcher has to think all that much. I would say, thinking too much and messing with your catcher who calls the game gets more pitchers in trouble. Young pitchers should be like robots, see sign, hit spot and repeat.
  6. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Gavin just doesn't have it today. No control whatsoever. No command, + walks, = bad outing. It happens. It might be time to get the pen up.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Everyone wanted Thome benched against CC last year. He had been horrible against him previously. He took him deep twice. If Thome is swinging well, I also would pretty much ignore his historic splits. He hits homers in bunches and has a couple early, so let him rip, especially if we are talking 11 AB as far as his history vs. Miner. Thome is healthy, and is hitting bombs. You play him. End of story.
  8. I can't wait for the new Twink stadium to open next year. Not because I think it makes that much of a difference for the Twins. Maybe next year the Sox balls will finally drop, and they can compete up there instead of fearing some mythical boogey man.
  9. Hopefully the sox retain Dye next year, and convince him to DH. His stick is still solid and he can provide a power threat, as the kids are filtered more on to the scene.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) He's still shown no ability to hit a good fastball on the inner half. We need to stop wasting this fine pitching we have seen.
  11. Those were some pretty hittable pitches there. Just a tad long on the swing there Josh.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) This offense is really unbelievable, Im so ready for a new era where we can actually hit some doubles and singles besides HR or bust. The only run of the game was a well hit line drive that keep going out.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Quentin flies out to the fence in CF. The ball's just dying to that part of the park. Blackburn has NOTHING! The ball doesn't jump in April and early May like it does in the summer.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Ugh...Getz is not hitting the ball hard at all. He really should be the #9 hitter in the order. He needs to either put the ball on the ground or hit line drives. Anything in the air for him is not a good thing.
  15. Hopefully this is just an oddity, because if the plan is to platoon Getz and never have him face lefties then this is a dumb decision.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) Has MacDougal been sent down or released yet? If he doesn't want to throw a strike, there's really not much reason to have him around. Tonight's game was pretty sickening but at least we get to see Corky Miller bat tomorrow. They have sent him down before, changed his delivery a bit, did everything you could think of. Think about this, the one thing that Coop does as good as anyone is to fix flaws in mechanics. MacDougal probably either can't be fixed, or doesn't want to fix. They showed video tonight where his head was looking at the ground during the release. How the hell do you think you can throw a strike when you are looking away. Send him down to the minors, and keep him away from the majors. If he doesn decent down there then see if you can get someone, anyone to pick him up. In fact, I wonder if they can outright him to AAA and take him off of the 40 man. Maybe someone picks him up on waivers. God that would be a dream.
  17. Someone who should be mad that his mother had sex with her brother called into the postgame show with this gem. "Someone ran onto the field tonight, uh, duh, do you think this is happening now because of the declining play since we won the world series in 2005." Yup, someone actually put that to enough thought, to call a radio station and say it. Awesome.
  18. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) A Lillibridge + Miller + Anderson combo against Liriano should be fun. So would anyone be shocked after Dewaynes big night that he doesn't sit tomorrow.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) People can say his declining velocity is "him learning how to pitch", but I call it "a glaring sign we need to trade him while he still has value". To me, its more of his value right now versus his arbitration years. With how bad some closers I think his cost and his value now is at his highest if he has a good year.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) And yeah, I hope we trade Jenks too. I love Jenks as much as anyone. But if we can get a ton of value for him, go for it. We need to max our value now in this transitional phase in our organization. Lots of draft picks, and lots of talent to reload for another championship run. We should be reloading for Project 2011 which is when we reload with a strong youthful core.
  21. So did I just hear right, we are facing Rick Porcello. Can we counter with Poreda.
