  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) Apparently the rumor mill is burning hot with info that the Sox may be searching for a CF'er to trade for and that Aaron Rowand may be a target for KW. If the Giants are seruious contenders in the NL West would they actually consider this deal? Would the Sox take on a big contract? Interesting speculation anyway. Discuss amongst yourselves. There is no rumor mill on this. Joe Cowley decides to publish a personal wish list. Then MLBTR picks it up, then others run on that. The internet explodes little tidbits like this. Just ignore and move along.
  2. Next series should be interesting. We face Nieman, Shields, Kazmir and Garza.
  3. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Remind me again how MMac conned his way onto this team this year?? Jeff Marquez convinced Ozzie with his non-existant sinker.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Hawk's pet peeve, the dreaded pitch count. Actually, this is a good test for the Tigers' pen to see if they can shut down the White Sox...Leyland needs to know what he'll get out them in the late innings. Its cold, wet, and they have a warm plane taking them to a warm place.
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) i'll play devils advocate a little bit and say....middle relief looks horrible, Alexei looks really, really bad out there, and unlike my fellow sox faithful, im really worried about him. I personalyl don't think hes a very good hitter, and i honestly am not sure that he is the hitter he showed last year...i mean only 18 BBs in 400+ ABs...pitchers are really going to take advantage of him...CF looks like an even bigger hole than I expected (and I didnt expect much), and the defense looks terrible....also our base running has been as bad as ive seen.... also, as you pointed out earlier, ozzies philosophy of having someone fast leading off is really unsettling They keep stating that OBP is the most important quality. Yet our examples of who has been trotting out there, is not exactly OBP guys.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Bad pitch by Jose, but awful pitch calling by AJ. Totally ignored the inside part of the zone against a hitter who was diving out over the plate the entire at bat. Polanco is a guy you pound in. Throwing him away pitches is dumb.
  7. Some of our non-power guys should take a clue from Polanco there. Fighting off pitches, and getting one you can handle. Its one thing when a power guy goes up there and cuts hard and misses, its another when its a non-power guy.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) I'll tell you something right now, Aaron Poreda will probably make his major league debut with another club, he is 100% trade bait for us this season for a CF'er/leadoff hitter. It depends on how Getz does this season. If Getz takes off, the plan will probably be to move Ramirez to CF, keep Getz at 2nd and put Beckham at SS. If Getz has issues, then they will go with a Beckham and Ramirez combo in the infield, and send off some prospects for something. I wonder how much the Angels would want for Willtis as a stop gap.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) His approach was so much different. That little move that he makes now to bend down while the pitcher is in his windup is something he didnt do back then. That hitch is awful for him. I wish we could of convinced Beane to take Anderson over Sweeney. I would rather have no power from Sweeney and a constant line drive swing than the group of fail we have that are candidates for CF right now.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) yeah...brent lillibridge is a really, really bad baseball player who is only good defensively Anyone that strikes out as much as he did in the Cactus league is going to get destroyed during the regular season, unless he makes an adjustment.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) For about 3 months in Tucson a few years back, BA had a really nice swing IMO. He had gap power, quick hands, and showed patience. Whatever happened since then is beyond me. BA is a fastball hitter. In Arizona, breaking pitches don't have the same depth that they do here. He can cheat a bit more, and look fastball. He has never figured out how to address pitches that move.
  12. Atlanta tried to convince the speedy small Lillibridge that he wasn't a power hitter and to put the ball on the ground and run like hell. For some reason, he thinks he is a mini-power hitter. If he ever gives that up, and tries to use his tools he might be worth something. Maybe we can have him do pushups everytime he lifts a lazy fly ball.
  13. This striking out crap with men in scoring position and 2 outs has got to stop. Put the ball in play. 2 times so far this game we have had a situation where we have had a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) I don't know about you guys but I'd still f*** the real LindsayL. Well here is your chance. Lindsay Lohan's eHarmony Profile from Lindsay Lohan
  15. Porcello throws a lot of fastballs. We should have the advantage against him, until down the road he figures out how to pitch. But right now this kid is a talented thrower who is going to flood the zone with hard stuff. Expect the sox to pound him.
  16. I would like to thank Lifetime fitness last night, for not kicking out the stripper young woman who decided to be fashionable and wear her thong bikini to swim laps last night. Swimming obviously works extremely well for shaping a persons body, thats all I have to say about that.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) The nicest thing about OSX is it's UNIX, so if you're like me, you'll find the shell much more powerful than anything Windows can replicate. But, all in all, I don't really think it matters which OS you use, as long as it works and does everything you need. I've had no problems with my MAC, and for the most part I've had good luck with PCs, but my previous laptop had a load of problems over the years running on XP, but that was hardware problems, no fault of the OS. Ever since my first dabbling with Unix professionally over 15 years ago, I have been trying to find the holy grail of a UNIX based laptop. I have run one SPARC based laptop, ran BSD and Linux and Opensolaris on different hardware over the years. While they all had their nuances, and worked pretty well for me , the Mac still is my favorite UNIX portable out there. Their scripting language Applescript gives you some automation capabilities, and you can turn to traditional shell scripting as well as many of the programming languages that are available to all UNIX based systems. The interface is clean, works well and is stable. While people complain about the price of the hardware, for me the small hit in price is worth it. No worries over hardware interop with the OS. No having to jack the system to get it to run on the laptop. It all works, and works seamlessly and has the power of UNIX under the hood. The best pickup for Apple, was when they bought NEXT and brought the Unix expertise and brought Steve Jobs back in house.
  18. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) This is all part of Deweeezy's plan. He wants this Anderson love fest crap to be done with. Just gave this opportunity as a gift to Brian. I just pray that this will be the end of "Brian's getting completely screwed over" comments. How many games does he need to play in the next 6 weeks for it to be considered a "true opportunity" by the Anderson jockers? My prediction is that Brian will play the majority of games the next week or so, and then start to get some heat from Lillibridge. Little boots has made some changes, looks absolutely different from the majority of ST. If Brian ***** this up early on, I expect Brent to get time in CF and do well. One way or the other, this supposed lack of opportunity for Brian is no more. Now it's all about what the hell are you gonna do with it Anderson? Its comical that you hate on Brian for sucking on offense, yet you pimp Brent who seems to strikeout in bunches as giving him pressure. Brent sure is fast, and has the tools and all. But he needs to hit the ball on the ground more, and make contact a whole hell of a lot more before he can get into the race. The only reason Lillibridge is up with the big team right now is that Nix got hurt in ST. Or he would be augmenting the AAA attack we have down there.
  19. Beckham just hit a 2 run jack. 8-2 Barons
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Maybe I just enjoying playing Devil's Advocate...because sometimes players here get picked on too much, while others (see BA) with similar records of non-achievement are hoisted on pedestals as if they are the next Torii Hunter, even though they have shown no signs of this happening at age 26 or 27. Personally, I'm all for bringing up Beckham and putting Ramirez in CF. It's better than putting Beckham or Getz in the outfield (although Beckham isn't the equal of Ramirez defensively, nobody can convince me of this). Shelby and Danks obviously aren't ready yet for CF. Screw this arbitration clock stuff...as Hawk noted, as soon as they signed Longoria to a 7 year extension, he was in Tampa within days. We either bring up Beckham or we make a trade for a legitimate, everyday CF if we really want to win this division. It's just frustrating because if we would have signed Kenny Rogers in 2003 for peanuts or traded for CoCo Crisp this season, you'd have two teams that could have gone a long ways....even capable of winning a World Series. How many times have you seen him play with your own two eyes to make a judgement on his defense.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) As much as fate was against Owens last year, the stars have perfectly aligned for him this year. Aside from drawing walks this ST, he did nothing to earn the leadoff spot. Then a longer term injury hits the guy at his position and a short term injury hurts the guy in his preferred batting order slot. I guess the stars are different in AAA, where he was sitting on the bench as the 4th OF. Getting your worst hitter the most ABs on your team is a bad idea.
  22. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) Jordan Danks fits that description. Even though he still needs to develop a ton to be in the Majors, I'd rather see Danks2 than Owens at this point. How about we let Jordan Danks, who is in high A work on his strikeouts, and getting comfortable against lefties before we move him up. He is not ready.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Elijah Dukes? Really? And that Nationals aren't going to just give us Dukes, or the Astros Michael Bourn. We would be better off going after Blanco than that. Lillibridge hasn't proven he can be effective as an everyday player in AAA, let alone at the major league level. To think of moving Ramirez to CF when he's just getting comfortable there just isn't going to happen. The ONLY question is whether he will put Owens in the line-up tomorrow against Porcello and go w/ the straight platoon everyone envisioned at the beginning of ST. One would THINK after the way Owens played that BA would have another chance to start 5-6 times per week (and after Owens was removed from the 40 man roster), but who knows? We're just lucky one of our division rivals didn't claim Owens just to keep him in AAA...because it's far from clear that either Lillibridge or Getz can get the job done leading off. Why exactly are we lucky. A crappy fast player with no power what so ever. Other teams don't claim that, they hope we start that and lead him off. Then they can pound him inside with fastball as he can't handle them. They will move the 3rd baseman up to the lip of the grass and warn the 2nd baseman that lots of dribblers are coming his way. Owens is your starter until Wise comes back.
  24. So what kind of fail is it, when a guy can't start for your AAA team and he will come back here and immediately take over for Wise. Anderson is going to be back to the bench.
