The Armchair GM Thread

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Where did I say get rid of all these players? How about a couple? How has Walker ruined them? Did he teach Erstad to lift and pull - because I didn't notice him doing that. Will he teach Owens that? Oh - wait just the ones doing terribly bad right? Walker is really teaching our players to lift and pull? He is teaching them bad mechanics? Do you really believe what you are saying? If you dont think that this team tries to pull just about everything this year then I guess you just show up here to argue with people and you dont actually follow the team. We just happen to run into Cy Young every game. Its just a simple coincidence that the pitcher spots us low and away. They are pitching us there just based on plain luck. No plan of attack, just pure luck. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) They right. We are not playing. They are. It is not our offense. It is their offense. It is our favorite team, but we do not play for it. Maybe coaches are there to do more than just teach. This is not high school, college, or minor league ball here. What are major league hitting coaches teaching them? Maybe they can let us in the park for free then. Because if we cant question it, then dont charge for it. It would make th renewal calls the following year a bit cheaper. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Are you honestly comparing Terry Bevington and Jerry Manuel to good coaches? I don't have a reason for you - I am sure those situations are different. I don't see this situation the same. Why don't you tell me why those were fired. I think Walt Hriniak was having trouble getting through and relating to some players if I recall correctly. That is a reason to be fired. Is this the case with Walker? Do you know the reasons the others were fired? Please shed some light on the situation for me please oh great and knowledgable one. I am not comparing Bevington and Manuel to anyone. You are the one with the silly argument of how it cant possibly be anyones but the individual players fault. Except for the fact that we went through this routine a few years ago when we got rid of Valentin, Carlos Lee, and others who were "problems' and were selfish. We revamped the players already. Now we are back into 04 lift and pull wait for the home run mode again. But you are right, lets get rid of all these players and get new ones. And then when Walk ruins them also, we can then finally fire him. Its so easy to have roster turnover, but its so hard to find a guy to work on mechanics of hitting. Maybe you can tell me what a hitting coaches job description is Captain Apologist. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Why is it the hitting coach's fault? They hit the last couple years under Walker didn't they? Do you think he is telling them to do something different? So you think firing Walker is the solution? You think they are going to get their heads out of their asses and start to hit once Walker is gone? Why would that be? So all these players hit good last year and they can't hit this year under the same hitting coach, except for A.J. because he is a myopic pull and lift hitter (which he has been since he signed here by the way). Maybe those other guys were idiots and that is why they fired him. How do I know? I was not around that team or in the clubhouse. How do you know? And Walker is telling them to do that from Chicago? Right? OK - I am with you. Now I want to fire Walker. Good job. Take a gander over the last 7 years of runs scored, batting average, and all. Notice that only the last few had Walks stamp of approval on it. Notice for the most part, its pretty much about the same. Year in and Year out. Well except for this year. Teams fire their hitting coaches. It happens all the time. In fact Walker said that there are only 2 other coaches that are still in the league since he came on. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) Bad ones need to go sure. Tell me, since I am so ignorant, how Walker is at fault for Konerko, Dye, and Thome going 0-50 and for Crede hitting like crap. As soon as you figure that out please post that little gem. How was Ward at fault. How was Von Joshua. Papa Jack. Walt Hrniak etc etc etc In fact why did we fire Terry Bevington, Jerry Manuel. because its not their fault that the team couldnt play well. When did Terry and Jerry go to bat or pitch for their players. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Greg Walker hits for this team? What is his batting average? Hasn't he been the same hitting coach for Konerko and Dye the past 3 seasons now? Wasn't he the hitting coach for Crede's career year? For Podsednik's great first year? Yeah - he must be telling them to do something different this year. I can see why he would want to do that. Plus the players seem to really hate him with a passion. They keep saying bleeping Walker told me to go up and do this and it just isn't working! How about putting the blame on the players? Nah - that would be pointless. Yeah he has needed to go for a while now. Even before they won in 2005 people were calling for his head. It is about time they finally kicked his ass to the curb. Probably the worst GM in baseball. Get a clue people. So if the entire team all at once slumps for 2 or more months its not the hitting coaches fault. Then why employ one. Konerko had a couple of hitting coaches before Walk, and hit just fine. Dye hit well before he came here also. Crede had one good year. AJ is no longer an all fields line drive hitter, he is a myopic pull and lift hitter. If it isnt the hitting coaches fault, why did we fire Ward, and Von Joshua. Why doenst a team just keep a hitting instructor forever then. In 05 the Indians hit like crap, not as bad as this disaster. But bad. They fired Murray and just took off. -
I can't blame Ozzie anymore....this is ALL on Kenny

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Yep, Kenny must be drugging his Cheerios every morning. And Cotts did a lot this season to show that Kenny made the wrong decision in the Aardsma trade. :oldrolleyes When will Soxtalk ever put blame on the players for not performing? My guess is never. Because its often that an offense that scores 520 runs in the first half of last year, just goes in the toliet as a group. Not one or two players, the entire f***ing team. When its part of the team, sure blame the players. When every single f***ing guy that comes up to the bat has the same exact blueprint problem then guess what, its not just the players. AJ used to be a line drive hitter, now he thinks he is Thome. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) The Score reports Walker isn't in Toronto with the team. He's back in Chicago, maybe out of a job??? Nah, just his kid's graduation Maybe we will see another round of Crowley, and company articles about how great Greg is how much they love him. How AJ loves him so much he dressed like him. More great quotes from Kong about how greg is the bestest hitting coach in the world. -

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) It's the offense, specifically the middle of the lineup, that is killing the Sox today. Crappy rotten lift and pull offense. And a crappy crappy crappy bullpen. -

Clue to our catchers and pitchers. Everyone has figured out that you go low and away on 2 strikes. Clue to the hitters, everyone has figured out that low and away is your bane, because you are pull monkeys. Clue to our manager, when you have a man on first and 2 outs, stealing everytime is an automatic out. Its time for something to be done, or just give up. This is embarassing. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Because Day doesn't belong on a major league roster, and Masset's best role might be as a starter. Which means you want to bring up Oneli Perez or Ryan Bukvich and eat MacDougal's contract? You don't just give up on guys with that type of stuff without trying to figure out what's wrong first. DL MMac. His leg is bother him. Bring up Printz. -

Here is a clue Catching tandem and AArdsma. You throw hard, you can throw the ball inside. You dont have to nibble on the outside corner with 95+. -

Now the lift and pull morons will make quick work of this inning. Its hard to get hits when you swing at the first pitch because you are afraid of sliders. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) I know our righties in the pen not named Jenks all suck, but anybody but MacDougal. I'd rather see Dewon Day to be honest. Luckily we were bailed out because Overbay swung 3-1 and happened to smoke it right to somebody, and Thomas walked, so Mike is done for the day. Get it done here Matty. Dewon Day should still be in AA. Printz should be up. He has major league experience so he wont piddle the mound. And his numbers are sick right now. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) i can't believe mcd is used for anything but clean up at this point How many quotes do we need to see about a hamstring injury do we need before its time to DL the kid, work on his mechanics during the DL, and then rebuild him. Having him going out there not 100% and throwing the ball all over is begging for an arm injury.
