  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) There was a guy on another Sox message board who posted that he likes to pretend the Sox won when they lose because it makes him feel better. Drinking helps me feel better after a loss. By the end of this year, I will be an alcoholic.
  2. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 30, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Are you sure you're not overvaluing Egbert a TAD? Vazquez? The interesting thing about Jenks and Thornton, they might be among the players with the most trade value, because of their affordable contracts, the value of lefty set-up men who throw 95-97 and Jenks' playoff experience. Realistically, if you look at how many closers we've gone through in the last decade (Hernandez, Howry, Foulke, Koch, Gordon, Takatsu, Hermanson, Jenks), it would seem to be the most overvalued member of many ballclubs, unless you're Mariano Rivera/Hoffman in their primes, Joe Nathan, a healthy Gagne, etc. I'll wait until Cunningham succeeds in AA before jumping on that bandwagon....same with the Faustino De Los Santos fan club. Since Garland's name hasn't come up yet, despite his relative youth, am I to assume we'd prefer to keep Vazquez over Jon, or simply that we believe Garland might become prohibitively expensive and we could get a decent package in return for him, like the proposed Astros' move? Going by the buy low, sell high philosophy, you would think Garland would give us a pretty decent return, despite his lack of eye-popping stats. Just trot out the 36 wins in 05-06 stat, that's the most impressive. After seeing the mess that is our pen, why anyone would want to trade Jenks or Thornton right now is beyond me. Both of them are affordable and under control for a while. This is what you build your bullpen around.
  3. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ May 30, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) See Phillies. Their ERA is better than ours. And our WHIP is 1.62 as a relief crew. Only Tampa Bay is behind us.
  4. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) He allowed 6 runs in his last appearance. It was 2.08 before that. Think further than straight-up numbers with these guys, they can be skewed. A reliever can toss 20 scoreless innings, give up 5 runs in an inning and see his ERA jump by 2. 2 weeks ago you could of said that about our pen. They all had some sexy numbers. So why trade, when we can have our poop and keep our prospects.
  5. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Weathers lessens the burden on them, so they can build up their confidence by not having to pitch in the 8th or 9th all the time. Who would you rather see on in the 9th in this particular game? Weathers has walked 8 batters this season. Aardsma has given 15 a free pass, and same with MacDougal. In his April Mr. Weathers mopped up against the Cubs, Pirates, St. Louis in the cold. In the Month of may he has a 5.14 ERA. Sure lets give them Gio and Eggs for him.
  6. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) You can't guarantee that. Plus, like I said, the Cincy park sees the most homers in baseball. And Sisco would need to throw strikes, first. So you want the David Weathers who has a 4.13 ERA in the national league and that will be the answer to our problems. Sure whatever.
  7. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Does anybody agree with me, that we make a move for David Weathers of the Reds? He's 37 years old, he had a 2.08 ERA before his latest outing shot it up to 4.30, but his WHIP is 1.08 and he hasn't allowed a homer this season, even as a member of the team whose park has the most home runs in the majors. Like I've said, he's someone who can't be described as shaky. I just don't think the bullpen is that far off. He would get raped at the Cell in summer against the hitters of the american league. Sisco would be a top flight closer in the NL central these days.
  8. QUOTE(Allsox @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:58 PM) Even Ozzie didn't expect Logan to get out Morneau since Aardsma wasn't ready. Million bucks AJ calls for fastballs outside, Aardsma hits the spot and Hunter goes the opposite way to win the game. Takers? I go with he plunks him or a wild pitch.
  9. Jenks is being saved for October guys. Dont worry.
  10. Jenks last game pitched was last friday. You cant shelve him for a week or so and then trot him out and expect everything to be fluffy and sweet.
  11. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) Why not go with Jenks?? Ozzie 2.0 only works only within the structure of its programming. The algorithm states, only when up by a 1 to 4 runs do you bring in Jenks. If tie game, you must put in macdoual if right handed, and thornton if left handed. If past the 10th you must put in long relief.
  12. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) do they ever drop any balls against us? EVER? it's freaking amazing, ridiculous and sickening. Good instruction in the minors, and a manager that motivates them.
  13. A warning track cock tease. Corpseball in May, usually we have to wait until August to see its ugly head. But like the Cicadas, its out early.
  14. 3 pitches and 2 outs. What a dumb group of hitters we have.
  15. Can this team score one more run before the twinks win it.
  16. If MacDougal gets put in this game, Ozzie needs therapy.
  17. Cintron bunts? What the hell are we doing. swing for the fence, or bunt for no reason.
  18. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Hard slide breaks up the double play. A team with heart, amazing The twins have stones, the sox have pebbles.
  19. The Wheels are coming off the bus. Who the hell walks a hitter that cant hit. To get to the meat of the order.
  20. The pucker factor pretty much means you will see a lot of strikeouts, popups, and typical corpseball attack late in the game. It feels like we have 9 Jose Valentins late the game these days.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 30, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) seriously, what percentage of runs in this series got on base due to a walk? I think already 4 walks have scored for garland today, at least 3 for both Jose and Danks Our pitchers have a bad case of the nibbles.
  22. Now the pucker factor comes up. Its later in the game. And now we will see quick appearances as we put the first or 2nd pitch in play. We will swing for the fences trying to be a hero. The only one that works the AB is Thome.
