  1. s*** he is from Venezuela. So as far as Ozzie is concerned he is ready to take over Ozunas best player on the team moniker. Another Toy for Ozzie that cant play.
  2. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 28, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) The bats took their damn time to come around and now the bullpen besides Jenks can't get an out. It would be nice for the team to finally perform together and not just for one damn game. This team is very very frustrating to watch. Its what we saw last year in reverse. Last year we hit like crazy in the first half, and couldnt pitch worth a lick. Then they kind of reversed. This year we squandered some great pitching, and its our own fault why we are 5.5 out instead of tied. We are a .500 team right now. We waited for the team to click last year and nothing happened. This team still doesnt look like it wants to click.
  3. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 28, 2007 -> 11:30 PM) I just think Jenks is an injury waiting happen. We've all seen the decline in velocity over the last 2 years. I think it would be wise to sell high. Plus, it's not like he's putting up astronomical numbers like Rivera (in his prime) or Nathan. I don't know who the Sox should replace him with. If Masset could throw the ball 96 MPH as advertised rather than 92, he would have been a good choice. I'm really disappointed in MacDougal -- his 2005 and 2006 numbers were really very good. Anyway if DET and CLE can get by with Jones and Borowski, I'd be happy if the Sox took the same route and signed a scrap heap to battle with Aardsma and MacDougal (if his arm isn't falling off) for the closer role next season. We play in a bandbox. Jenks is throwing 95-96 lets not pretend he is throwing sub 90 and cant get outs. His numbers look like Cy Young compared to the crap in our pen. Trading the first stability in our pen since Foulke would be stupid at best. Joe Borowski pitching at the cell night in and night out would be like Mike Jackson pitching here. Detroit is a huge monsterous park. You realize that you can get away with a little bit less there as a pitcher, and Jacobs isnt exactly a small park either. So because Jenks isnt putting up numbers like one of the best closers in the history of baseball we should trade him, and put a pile of dung in his place. Thats rich.
  4. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 28, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) Which is why a firesale would be the best thing for the club. Any pitcher except for Danks should be on the market starting yesterday. I'm including Jenks in that group, as he's one of the few players that might bring a major league quality player in return. Here's hoping Dye heats up so he can be moved. And I would love it if Erstad played out of his mind and could actually be traded at the deadline for a prospect. The talent level really does seem to be abysmal. I was completely unimpressed by Day's stuff in today's game, and he's the best relief prospect the Sox have. I agree he's slowed down (not surprising given his age). But I think a lot of his hitting problems are related to his finger injury -- hand injuries seem to have a pretty big impact on hitters. With how hard is has been to get a decent closer on the southside, I wouldnt trade Jenks at all. He is young, and is cheap. Who would you put there in his place, Day, MacDougal.
  5. From an offensive standpoint, we are an all or nothing team. We dont string hits together, we have horrible ideas of what the strikezone is. We never shorten up our swings with 2 strikes, and we have no clue how to situational hit. Look at the last Tampa game. We are down by a run, we get men on 1st and 2nd with no outs. We have how many guys strikeout on pitches way way out of the zone. Thats just dumb. The reason the twins beat us a lot is how they attack the game. When was the last time you saw a Twins hitter strikeout on a pitcher over their head with RISP late in the game. When was the last time you saw 3 home run cuts with men on late in a game. You get 2 strikes on a twins hitter, and they shorten up their swings and put the ball in play. They hit line drives. They work the count. and they are fundamentally sound. When asked to bunt, the ball gets placed on the ground and they execute. They hit and run. This is an organizational philosophy. Look at the twins organization, they have a common practice of how to play baseball. They teach fundamentals and execution. Our organization produces a long line of long and looping swings. Hitters who are overmatched. The minute they come up here, they want to focus on how to make them hit for more and more power. The rob deer approach. None of our hitters have a clue how to bunt, how to hit and run, how to make contact when needed. When you get men on late in a game, and you see these large long home run cuts and strikeouts it pretty much tells you what you have. Our defense is medicore at best. We have a hard time positioning our players to how we are pitching. Look at the cubs series, we have a pitcher throwing hard and we are setting up away. Then Dye is playing way way off the line. Uribe makes the tough plays, and boots the easy ones. Iguchi has had a bad year defensively. And for our bullpen, we have issues with making good 2 strike pitches. We either go so far away from the plate no one unless they were Uribe would offer at it, or we groove one down the plate. We constantly have our pitchers in htiters counts and that is their problem. 2 pitchers worry me from the starters. Contreras the side armed version is a shadow of his pre-DL self from last year. You dont have to have lots of video to realize that he was 3/4s with his fastball that was 94-95 and his fork came from there. Now he is sidearming his fastall at 90-91 and his fork comes from a different slot. He will have good outings and bad ones based on if he can locate his fork. He doesnt have the dominant fastball. The Indians were quoted at the first part of this year as how suprised they were on Contreras's lack of velocity. Vazquez, because with his stuff, he should be a 20 game winner. He doesnt focus, and that is his problem. He makes a few big mistakes with leaving pitches over the plate during the game that get killed. He is the old pre-2005 Garland with better strikeout stuff. When Ozzie was hired I was happy. I thought I would see fundamental baseball. Hitting gap to gap, trying to be the Twins. And here we are a few years later, swinging for the fences like Manuel is back in the sadle. A grinder to me, is what the twins hitters are. A tough out, someone who makes you throw pitch after pitch late in the game, until you blink and they put the ball in play. I see another group of players with different names, swinging for the fences and coming up short like Valentin did back in 04.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 27, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) The scary thing is Cleveland's offense is only going to get better. Haffner, Sizemore and Barfield are still not at the level they most likely will be at. Detroit should cool down a bit. Dont worry, maybe they will get hit with the perfect storm that Greg Walker says we got hit with. Then their entire team will hit 215 for 7 weeks or so. We should pass them both up real quick.
  7. Whats not to like. He comes cheap, he can hit lefties. We will be 5.5 out as of tonight if the Indians win. Do you really want to empty the minors to pick up a left fielder guys. Lets see in the next month what we have before we go balls deep on this season.
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) Ozzie mentions post game that he's got something wrong around his legs, groin or hamstring or something....he said he didn't think it was much...but there ya go. This is not a new comment. They made this comment on Whitesox weekly. He is working through a hamstring problem. Its time to stop having guys limp through. If they are hurting and they are sucking, put them on the DL and let them get healthy. Mack is also having a lower stomach problem. He said that this morning on WSCR.
  9. Swing for the fence. Balls hit over the fence always score. Your 2007 Whitesox.
  10. Another huge cut with men on and a strike out. Walkerball lives.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) And this is why you don't conceed by putting Sisco in the game. Sisco has been begging for a AAA demotion for about a month now.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) And then we face Halladay and Burnett next weekend. We had such a good 3rd inning against Kazmir too....it's too bad Vazquez is incapable of actually holding a lead. This team had 2 times where we had a man on 2nd and no outs and he never leaves 2nd because of strikeouts and overswinging. And then we keep trotting out guys who have sucked for 3 or 4 weeks in a row and keep prayin g that they will snap out of it. thats our philosophy, hope they get better but do nothing to make it happen.
  13. If Sisco doesnt go down soon then we are giving up this season. 5.5 out tonight if the Indians win. We are going to lose tomorrow, because thats what we do when we face Johan. So we are really setting ourselves up for a suckfest in this season. When the top 2 guys are fighting it out, and you play the Tampa bay devil rays, you are supposed to gain ground, not lose it.
  14. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ May 27, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Why do we make every bad bullpen look good (Cubs an Rays) We dont take pitches. We have horrible ideas of what a strike is. Most right handed bullpen guys throw a slider, which might as well be a golf ball thrown 2000 mph and painted black. We are swinging for the Dan Ryan.
  15. AJ has the day off totally. Why bat a lefty against a good slider.
  16. Christ the reliever has a slider. That is like poison to our bats. Konerko will be tipping his hat after the game.
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 27, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Actually no. I worry about that same scenario too. And KW telling Soxfest patrons QYB and be grateful for what you have. I am going to ask KW this year about what he is doing to fix the worst hiting team in the majors against lefties next year. And ask him why Walker is employed.
  18. The Kansas City contingent of our pen has forgotten that they are no longer on that team. Lets see how the devil Rays version of their Kansas City contingent does.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ May 27, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Do we have to put MacDougal on the DL so Ozzie STOPS bringing him in in crucial situation. He keeps trucking him out there and he gets worse and worse. Aardsma, anyone? There is something wrong with him. His fastball was 97 with the Royals. He took a bit off for more strikes last year and was 94-95. Now he is 90 all the time.
  20. In the offseason I would trade Vazquez to the Mets, who would love him. And put Masset in the rotation. Take the money we are giving to Vazquez, put some more on it, and throw it at Buerhle.
  21. QUOTE(GOD @ May 27, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) why would u bring McDougal into a game we actually had a shot at winning The same reason Tommy John Politte was being marched out in the 8th inning last year.
  22. Hawk can retire anyday now. These senile crying about the umps and his shtick is over the top now. He is santo with legs now. Here is how it is. When you throw wild for an inning, then you dont get any calls unless you throw a strike. Its just what happens. At every single level in baseball.
  23. Its funny that none of their hitters are expaning the zone like over their head, or in the dirt like our guys do.
