White Sox vs. Devil Rays, 5/25/07 (W)
southsideirish71 replied to briguy27's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Well the next few games will prove if they are out of their slump, or was 3 games just an abberation. We face shields who has a plus changeup, throws it alot and likes to paint the outside corner with his fastball to setup his changeup. Think Radke versus the sox. We face a crappy pitcher we should bomb into the atmosphere tomorrow. Then Kazmir, a top lefty. Then Johan, which we might as well forfeit the game. Then Boof. -
To me these are the untouchables. Only if you are absolutely blown away you deal them. I would keep De La Santos, Gio, Egg, and Russell as near untouchables. From the hitting side, Cunningham, Sweeney, and Fields. Here are 2 pitchers that are just about ready. And someone might want to plug them in if they wanted to go younger, and cheaper. Haeger, Broadway. To sustain winning on the Southside, these electric arms that I have mentioned are necessary. You have 1 sinkerballer, and 3 power arms. Unless a Crawford is coming back, I wouldnt move any of the electric guys. You can add outfielders through FA. You can get position players through FA. You cannot in this overpriced market get anything real good in the SP unless you pay a bazillion dollars. SP is way to valuable in the long run to this team. Finally we get some guys that miss bats more, I dont want to see them go. Broadway was drafted to be traded.

QUOTE(AirScott @ May 24, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Guillen always does this, where have you been? He likes to give his starters the chance to stick it out, pitch through seven and possibly get the win if the offense comes around. It's not like there was a lead to protect in this one. And the run totals the last four games before Tuesday: 6, 10, 8 and 10. BLOW THE WHOLE f***ING THING UP! The guys been fantastic this season. Now 4-1, 2.58 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, .238 BAA...just tip the caps and go get the Devil Rays. Against the rest of the league, he has a 3.12 ERA. Against the Sox, he has a .62 ERA.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 24, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Its not like this guy wasnt shutting down other teams. We were actually putting some decent swings on the ball as well. I think we rebound next time out. Chad Guadin 4-1 2.58 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP .238BAA Good slider. Lefties are hitting .280 against Chad. and now we face Right hander James Shields 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA and a .92 WHIP and a .199 BAA. He has a good slider, and a good changeup. Lefties are hitting .186 against him. A guy with a good slider and good changeup. The next few days of Shields, Kazmir, Johan and Boof will give us a better idea of how the offense has matured. Here is someone talking about shields on Sickels site. Shields So we have a right handed pitcher who has a plus change, who attacks low and away. Yeah the offense will break out against him.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 23, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Congrats Mike!!!! We also are baking this year!!! Here's to our sperm!!! Congrats to everyone baking(Ribbie, Mike, Steff and whoever else is baking). Our bun was done 2 months ago. Mrs SSI71 and I are going to close the bakery now. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ May 23, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Devil's advocate would say Garland might be a better option in the seventh than our horrid relievers (of late anyway). And the Sox bench is not exactly full of good hitters. I'm not an Erstad fan but I am not so sure anything would have mattered. Face it ... unless the Sox come out and bash 2 or more homers in a game, they are cooked offensively. It's a home run hitting team nothing else. Garland with a 107 pitches, who has been hit pretty well throughout the game and has worked to put them away, a contact pitcher mind you was the best option???? Hall hits lefties, he has decent power. He is on the team with a torn labrum because he hits lefties. So if you are going to use him against Ted Lilly in the crosstown series, why wouldnt use him against Jay Marshall down by 4 runs. Pablo Ozuna is a pinch runner. He is not the guy you bring up with the bases loaded late in the game. Konerko and the rest are tipping their caps. Stop tipping your cap, and hit the f***ing ball.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Bad offense, horrible base running, and terrible managing....a recipe for a loss. You mean that Pablo is not the best bat to come off the bench with the bases loaded.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 23, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) Gaudin is actually good. Look at his numbers. Not totally unacceptable. Thats his first shutout of the year. If we thought Gaudin was tough, we have some more fun coming up. Shields and his .92 WHIP with sub 3 ERA on Friday. His out pitch is a change and a curveball. Sounds like he is walking into a hornets nest facing our lineup. Kazmir, lefty, good on Sunday. And Johan and Boof on Monday and Tuesday. The only thing going for us is that Tampa's offense is cold right now.

White Sox vs. A's, 5/23/2007 (L)

The corpseball kids have a warning track flyout to preserve the shutout. Maybe Greg can go back on the radio and pat himself on the back some more about how the offense is fixed. -

Its amazing how patient our hitters become in the last 2 innings. If they had pulled this about 7 innings earlier we might of got to the might Cy Gaudin. -

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) It's easy to blame Ozzie. He didn't have the bat in his hands feebly with bags loaded and only one out. It's not like the other players you mention are great hitters either. If you have a choice of Toby Hall or Ozuna to face a lefty late in the game with the bases loaded down by a bunch and you select Ozuna. Then I would say you are nuts. -

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) no reason to have toby hall around if you're not going to pinch hit him in situations like that. So we have bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th. We have a guy on the bench who can barely hit it out of the infield, and pretty much tries to bunt because he cant hit. But he is an Ozzie favorite so he plays. Remember when he thought that sprinkling Timo on everything made it better. Timo is now Pablo. -

I thought as Ozzie got more experience he was supposed to learn from his mistakes. We keep seeing the same dumb things over and over and over. -

Ozzie boner moment number 2. He pinch hits a designated bunter, over 2 other righties on the bench. Including one that has some pop. 2 boner moments in this game. -

So we pinch hit Pablo? Thank God Timo is not on the team. -

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) who wants to bet we don't score 1 here? erstad has a flair for the dramatic and hits pretty well with men on. I think we score here. Hopefully he can hit a double into the gap. Does anyone really believe Ozzie will take the grindiest man on earth out of this lineup. -

This looks a lot better. A oppo cue shot, and a line drive up the middle. More like it. -

QUOTE(Reddy @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) i wouldnt say its corpseball quite yet... if this continues then yes but i agree with fathom that i think tonight is just a bad matchup If they took the same approach over the last few days tonight, they would be fun. They hit the ball where it was pitched. Tonight with the weather hot, they went into softball team mode. Its not we have crushed the ball right at people tonight. Gaudin has manhandled in the same way Santana manhandles us. -

QUOTE(Reddy @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) i wouldnt say its corpseball quite yet... if this continues then yes but i agree with fathom that i think tonight is just a bad matchup Kazmir, Shields and Santana are not exactly great matchups for our team either. -
QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) It's true though.....we look terrible against good lefty starters. I wonder if Toby will make us look any better against Santana, C.C., etc. And guys with good sliders like Cy Guadin. Lets see if Greg can puff his chest out some more in interviews claiming the team is fixed. We face Shields, Kazmir, Johan, and boof in the next few games. He probably should of waited a week before doing his interviews. Shields has a .92 WHIP and has a 2.94 ERA with a 3-0 record. Oh and we have never faced him either.

Corpseball is back in full affect. We score like we are just insane for 4 days, then poof on a hot night at the Cell the home runs swings come back and a pitcher 2 hits us. Now Hawk with the how hard it is for teams to sweep. Well when you decide to have the offense take the night off, and force your pitcher to throw a no hit shutout then sure its hard. -

QUOTE(Brian @ May 23, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) I was just saying, no win situation. Gaudin ain't coming out, mid relief is awful, we were probably gonna give up runs either way and it doesn't look like we were gonna score 1. Can't win em all, tip your cap, we took 2 out of 3. It's not like previous series where we won the first two than the bullpen blew a lead. We trailed. Take the off day, get ready for Tampa Bay. Well we are going to tip our caps when we face Shields, Kazmir and Santana 3 out of the next 4 games.
