Thats 5 runs this season that should of been unearned for Danks, that his tin foil defense kicked around on him. He was at 3.91 now he sits at 4.30. -

Iguchi has terrible range. John Dewan was on the score today with some SABR metric defensive score. League average was a zero, and Gooch was a -2. Crede was a +9, Uribe was a +2. Ozuna looked good at 3rd last night. Tonight he looks like poop on a stick. Thats ruled a hit??????? Defense f***s Danks again. This kid would be in the lower 3s in ERA. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 22, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) This thread would be 10 pages if the Sox were down 10-1. I am sitting here in awe of what I am seeing from the offense. Crushing the pitching inside and driving it. Hitting the pitch away and back up the middle. If this had arrived about 4 weeks ago, we would have the best record in baseball with our pitching. Danks deserved this type of assistance, after manning up and pitching like a ver this whole time. -

QUOTE(Balance @ May 22, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Well, this is a pitcher the Sox haven't seen before.... That's not usually a recipe for success on the South Side.... Yet I remain cautiously optimistic. We have seen him before. he pitched for Texas. Lewis is 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA in four career appearances, including two starts, against the White Sox. -
I have to say that anyone with the Xbox360, and Rainbow Six Las Vegas should get the Player's Pack Red Edition add on. A couple of new maps, 2 new game modes. Wish I had more time to play it.

QUOTE(Wedge @ May 22, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) I'm going to second this. If you want to go the "bad boy" route that Rock suggested, you're probably gonna get hosed in the end. Either you end up breaking up and it wasn't really worth the trouble or else you end up getting married and her parents already hate you. The better strategy, if you actually care about this girl, would be to try to win her parents over. It sounds dumb and all, but show them you're a good guy. I dunno, offer to mow their lawn or help around their house. Let Ma and Pa get to know you a bit. I'm guessing that the big problem in this case is that they don't know you, rather than being super-religious. As they get more comfortable with you, I'm sure you'll notice that they'll let their daughter do more and more with you. Right now you are looking at this girl, and your heart goes pitter patter. Just like everyone on this board has had for someone at some point. She is 17 years old. When her parents look at her, they do not see a 17 year old soon to be woman. They see the little girl in pig tails that wore a communion dress. You are not going to be able to reason with her parents. If I was her parents, I would be asking me what the hell is my 17 year old daughter getting all serious with a guy. In a few years she will be 21 and will have a different focus in life, she will be a different person at 25, and at 30. Take a girl out, and both of you have fun. If there are these life altering complications and worry at this point, you really will have problems. It shouldn't be this hard. Its been a week. If after a week you are having these types of problems. Good lord. Just move on. You are 20 years old. Find a girl, and ask her out for Friday. Then find another girl and ask her out for Saturday. Date a bunch of people, find out what you like and what you dont like in them and have fun. Why anyone would want to get super serious with anyone before they are 21 and are hitting the bars is beyond me. Wait till you start going to the clubs, you will find all sorts of barely dressed girls to fall in love with on a nightly basis. -
QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 22, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) this sucks I have done this 6 times now. The only tips I have are the following from giving these speeches, and from being at enough weddings were I have seen bad ones. Things to avoid. 1.) Don't go into long drawn out stories about some myopic fact that happened when you were 7. 2.) Inside jokes, are meant to be kept inside. 3.) Never mention ex's, ex' girlfriends, or the drunken frat party you picked up a bunch of girls for a night of immorality. 4.) Dont get drunk before it. Slobbering and getting all emotional is not a good thing to see. 5.) Complement, but do not hit on, the bride as your friends choice for mate. 6.) Remember the brides first name, if you are going to quote it. 7.) No quotes from the bachelor party, no stories about your friend getting a lap dance, no mention of that night at all. It never happened, admit nothing, deny everything, and most of all demand strict proof. 8.) The speech is to honor the bride and groom, not to self promote yourself as the smartest, best looking, life of the party. Things I have done that people have liked. Yes some of these are sappy. But my view is simple, play it safe. These are video taped, and will be around forever. So in my opinion, its better for longevity to play it safe, and do a traditional toast. You dont want them to replay this a few years later, and have them go Oh wow what an asshole. 1.) Welcoming the bride into your family, circle of friends. 2.) Telling the bride how lucky she is to have landed a friend/family member such as groom. Then reverse the line, and tell your friend how lucky he is to have found his perfect mate. 3.) Light humor, and I mean light humor. Do not attempt to make this a funny speech. 4.) Keep it under a few minutes at the most. If people start to pass out, you have gone to long. 5.) Remember to look at the couple during the toast. 6.) speak clearly, and dont mumble. 7.) Think of a nice closing toast line. Do not use this one "Here's to our wives and girlfriends: May they never meet!" I have seen that one used at a wedding. Remember, if you are a single guy and the best man. You will have an inside track on the resident hot girls at the wedding. Plus the speech is only a few minutes long. The bachelor party if planned right, can last all weekend.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 22, 2007 -> 09:00 AM) No way in hell. I will bet you a new Danks jersey right now that Mariotti is not fired this year They just had Greg Couch his mini-me on WSCR. Talk about a baseball boob. He is upset with the team speed, because we don't bunt enough. He mentioned that we don't play old fashion baseball and bunt and steal. Greg, bunting to bunt is just dumb.

I loved our offense this game. MacDougal needs to throw strikes.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) The Sox should stop interviewing with North. All he does is stur the pot and disrupt chemistry in the clubhouse. The past three days he has made Ozzie against AJ, AJ against Toby and now AJ against Mark. Stop interviewing with North, he is a moron and hurts the Sox's image. North should go back to selling hotdogs. Last year he was calling himself the Arm Whisperer, and telling Coop who was enraged that Coop should hire the hot dog vendor to come and talk with the club. The guy is a self promoting ass-hat who has an annoying voice. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 21, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) its bad form to freeze out your flagship station, it would cause a lot of unnecassary problems. There were a few times last year that Cooper went off on North, he was really cranky at the end of the season. Send Gooch to interview without his interpretors. Send Uribe. And then send MacDougal and Thome. You have 2 guys no one could understand, so they cant get into trouble. And two of the nicer guys on the team. The hot dog vendor would have a problem getting a controversy out of them.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ May 21, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) I wouldn't read too much into this...I think KW likes the flexibility of having that extra spot open...just in case. They dont burn roster spots by putting people on waivers to open up flexibility. If they didnt give a crap about Lopez, they could of put him on waivers anyday of the week.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 21, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) Has there been any mention of Buehrle basically ripping AJ? Cowley is on right now, saying that this is just Buerhle busting AJ's balls right now. Nothing more, nothing less. -
This is where they should create a "match.com" type service in jail. Take a guy like this, a rotten pile of filth who wants to hurt his own child. Or in fact, anyone who molests, hurts children. Then match them up with their perfect vicious bloodthirsty killer, who is looking for someone to have sadistic sex with. Then lock them up for some kozy romantic nights of "chase around the jail cell". In fact, they should move them around after a few weeks, so another vicious murdering manrapist, can have a piece of new meat. This way, the violent offenders are too tired from rape to have uprisings, and the sicko child killer/rapists are getting some "motivational therapy" and some love from another human being to help them along. Maybe they can play Dane Cook's favorite game of "who is in my mouth".

QUOTE(forrestg @ May 21, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) During negotians last fall I read that Joe's back surgery would be minor.... He could have easily recovered by even spring training. He opted for therapy. Now 1/4 of the season has expired and his back problems have reoccured. This problem will not go away and he will be free agent. A free agent with a bad back will not get the bucks that a free agent with a good back will receive. Fields is not the best fielder and presently is not hitting the best in AAA but I believe will do ok fielding and hitting wise once at the big show..... If you are Joe Crede and you just came off your best season as a pro, you are a year out of Free Agency and your agent is Scott Boras so you are about to be a megabazillionare. Why again would you have anything done to your back. I mean really, even simple surgery isnt worth it. My brother got hit on his motorcycle by a drunken driver. He has a messed up back, with degenerative disc issues. He gets epidural shots a few times a year, and he is a cop. He could go and get simple surgery, however for him the risks are too much. Right now, he deals with the pain, he gets his shots and he puts in his work. Why because he has 4 kids to provide for. Now he could have surgery, but what if something happens. Disability is not going to pay the bills, and he will be screwed. If I was this close to making a bazillion dollars, I would probaby take a shot in the back now and then than messing up my money.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) A winning streak would be good right about now. I will be there as well. It will be nice to see Thome back in the lineup. Lets see if the bats are awakened. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Masset's future is obviously as a starter. His fastball continually popped in the mid 90's even as the game wore on. His fastball has good sink to it, and he has a major league curve. If BMAC somehow brought 2 future pitchers in our rotation, I would say that was the biggest contribution he will ever make to this team. His two seamer is the big difference maker to me. The first time I saw him break that out is when he had that long relief gig against the Indians. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) Yeah, there is no doubt our starting depth is better. The nice thing is that it means less pressure to get guys like Russell, Gonzalez, and Floyd to contribute too quickly. I think it also helps with contract negotiations. When you have some available arms or other options, then they cant put you in the corner. KW did that with Garland and Contreras and pitted them against each other. The first one to sign, and then both of them sign within a few days of each other. Russell, Gio and Floyd all have plus stuff as well. Floyd just needs to be rebuilt mentally and needs to throw strikes. I think what we saw with our AA so far, allows KW to use guys like Broadway and Haeger as trading chips for the trading deadline. Broadway is just about ready but I dont think it will be with us, he doesn't project as top of the rotation. But his numbers look good, and he was a former number 1 so he value is at an all time high.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2007 -> 06:17 AM) I agree 100%. You could tell Massetts pitches didn't have the same movement, velocity, and location in his last inning. If anything he went a little too long, but I have no problem letting the kid go a little long, as he earned it with the way he threw. Heck, I think we have just seen Mark Buehrle's 2008 replacements first White Sox start. Masset isnt stretched out enough to go more than he did yesterday. I think we saw something else also Mike. Remember how many people were upset that Freddy and Bmac were traded because we didnt have a 6th starter waiting in the weeds in case of injury. Well everyone, Massett looks like he can step in. I really think we will sign Buerhle. I think Garland or Contreras is a goner. They have tried to trade Garland a few times and Contreras isnt getting younger.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 20, 2007 -> 10:17 AM) That's the spirit! Hope your daughter and you have a good one. My brother was talking crap from the minute he showed up. He even had his kids partaking in jackassery. I turned the TV on after we ate, and AJ strolls to the plate with Cotts on the mound. AJ hits the jack, and about 15 minutes later my brother has to leave. Kind of a coincidence. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 20, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) What has surprised me the most is how people have gone crazy with the bullpen. David came into the Cubs series with a 1.64 ERA, and really had been one of the best relief pitchers in the game this season, and after two games, we had people calling for him to be sent down to AAA. As I said in the gamethread, this bullpen is young. They are going to have struggles. Now Fathom brought up a good point, that the youth in the bullpen could, and will hurt us. He is probably right, and Williams knew that coming in. Hopefully, the "vets" in Macdougal-Thornton-Jenks can step up, and get these guys over the hump. Its a simple equation with our bullpen. If they throw strikes and can pitch aggressive they can be the best pen in the league. They all have strikeout stuff. If they are wild, they will all look horrible. I like our pen. They need to throw more strikes. The only other thing I noticed with AArdsma the last two days, is AJ sets up away all the time. The cubs were going oppo on him. With Davids electric stuff he needs to throw inside more, and then setup his breaking pitch away more. I think this weekend was the case of scouting doing a good job on how to attack David. Sisco is the only one out of the group that really worries me because he has shown the most wildness out of the group. i was a huge proponent of the velocity pen. I still think its the way to go. Throw more strikes, dont let the walk beat you late in the game.

Happy Birthday everyone.
