  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Today it is cheap. Go back and read what people had to say about the deal this time last year. Hindsite is always 20-20. To look at the deal today is completely different than looking at it as it was made, and is a tad ignorant IMO. Remember Miggy was the next IRod. Jeremy Reed was Mark Kotsay. This is what was being said. And also people were saying Freddy pitched in a big park and had bad away splits.
  2. Well now BRUUUUUCE Levine has changed his story again. Now the Burnett deal might not get done until the weekend. The deal is on hold right now.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Then why would they be asking for Politte now? That doesn't make any sense. If the Marlins were good with the Marte part of the deal, why would that change? Just by logic, that saids to me that they wanted more out of the deal, and that is why they went to Politte. Well they are playing their hand. Ask for the moon right now. Remember when the Giants asked for Garland for Schmidt plus top prospects. Its a sellers market this year. Plus this is all speculation based on the "Mike and Mike" show and Jason Stark.
  4. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) To ALL OF YOU who called Kenny stupid if he should trade away Politte in a package to acquire Burnett, you guys know NOTHING. If indeed Kenny trades Politte, I will be okayed with it. You know WHY? I trust Kenny much more than I trust a bunch of guys who idiotically think they have better knowledge than our GM. Please! You guys probably were the same ones who jumped on Kenny's throat when he made the Carlos Lee for Pods and Vizcaino trade! Have faith and trust our GM. It's so easy for us guys to sit behind our computers and telling Kenny, "I want that player; I want this player" when in all honesty, we know NOTHING about what's going on behind the curtain. Actually I wasnt happy with Lee last year when he changed his swing mid season from a short quick doubles swing during his streak to a long looping power swing. I knew he was gone after KW made the comment after the Twins series last year about if he sees any player swinging for the fences when we need a single to score a run he will puke. All of this is pure speculation on what pieces it will take to move this player or that.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) What do you guys think about him following the Sox over to the Score..? What's the general feeling on him..? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO He is all fluff and no stuff. I would rather have J Hood do the pregame and post game.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Who saids that the Marlins want Marte? He was linked to the trade before. I thought the Marlins were enamored with his "stuff"
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Is Politte signed beyond this season? Maybe the thinking is Jenks could take Politte's role. Politte has been awesome this season, I thought he should have been an All Star, however, I would not be surprised if he starts getting touched up soon. Also, maybe this is also tied into possibly acquiring Baez. Who knows other than KW. There are going to be a ton of rumors, some with some truth some with none, until trades are made or the deadline passes. I am as big of a jenks fan as anyone. But getting rid of Politte is silly. He has been a big cog in the bullpen this year. He has been getting righties and lefties out. He has been a bulldog in the pen. Jenks has some great stuff, but still needs time to learn how to pitch at this level. Marte, you can go now. I will drive him to the airport. Politte >>>> Baez
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) lol i was just gonna say the same thing. in the AL alone i can think of 1. teixeira. hafner and ortiz would count but tehy are DH. IMO overbay > PK and sexson Overbay is a consistant bat. His power numbers are not sexy. But the guy hit a ton of doubles last year and still without a ton of homers still has a near 900 OPS. He is a left handed bat, handles his position well, and provides a good price point. I get a kick out of how people immediately look at his power numbers and cringe then b**** about Paulies low BA and BA with RISP. There are very very very few people that have a high average and the power numbers to match. If Konerko was a bit more consistant with the bat he would have at least 85 rbis at this point. Overbay would be a very welcome addition.
  9. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) As much as he's done at the #2 spot in the order, I really wonder what his numbers would look like if he batted #3 or #4 consistently. I keep saying that getting Vizquel is an impact trade because it would allow the whitesox to move Gooch down in the order so he can swing away. Vizquel can provide another pesky bat at 2 with speed and good contact. Then Gooch I feel will creep back to 300 and can show his power more. I think he would be a doubles machine lower in the order. But without Vizquel, gooch is the only guy that has the patience to allow Pods to run.
  10. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) i tend to agree, especially with the way the national media is involved in every step of this thing, anythign that is released really influences the deal. which imo is the reason KW always wants to fly under the radar.... This flying under the radar thing is overrated. Its not KW who is leaking anything, but the other side who tries to get more parties interested. Everyone is so shocked that these deals are being publicized, but its more of the other team drumming up interest.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) Not that is makes sense with him coming from the Japanese League where they play about 20 less games, or being his first time through the American League or anything... Trust me, there have been plenty of us who have been singing Tads praises for quite a while now as we have recognized that what Iguchi does, doesn't necesarily show up in the stat page, dispite the out comes of games. And I know for some if it doesn't translate to OPS, OBP, SLG, NPERA, BA, RSIP2O, or some abreviation that is doesn't compute... But when you manager calls you out to praise you as the MVP of the best team in baseball, that should be all you need to know, stats or no stats. Well Gooch seems to want to play more. The MVP probably is sick of watching Willie and the B team kick the ball around. Gooch wants more playing time
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:25 AM) Not so good on the Burnett front; Miami Herald - Sun - Times - http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-ssep27.html I still think its brinksmanship. When you have lots of interest you play one off another. When you have little interest you play like you want to keep him. I think AJ will be dealt, I just think the Marlins want to maximise their bounty that they shall receive on the AJ transaction.
  13. QUOTE(Tadahito Iguchi @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) How about playing the A team today Ozzie so we can get the series win and go into Baltimore with some momentum.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) The fact that Overbay isn't a power hitter right now shouldn't even be considered. The minute he puts on a Sox uniform, his average will drop 30 points and his power will increase. Hello Mr. Overbay my name is Greg Walker, I need to talk to you about your high BA and low power. I have worked with lots of hitters on the whitesox and have a fool proof method of giving you more power for just a slight drop in BA. 2006 Overbay hits 30 homers and has a 212 BA LOL
  15. QUOTE(cragi @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Brewer fan here to give my take on the overbay rumors. First off, as a brewer fan I believe the Brewers fleeced the Sox to get Lee, as they were desperate both to unload Podz and were equally desperate to acquire power. But if I can just as easily see how a Sox fan would think they fleeced the Brewers. An amazing result for both teams indeed. Second, I love Overbay. The knock on him is what value is a first baseman that can't hit homeruns (only 16 last year.. but he did have 53 2Bs)? He is probably the biggest fan favorite (and my favorite) because he works hard and was the best hitter (by far) on last year's team, though he tailed off at the end when the brewers were out of contention. It seems that many Brewers go through prolonged hitting slumps and you start to wonder about the hitting coach. Overbay can get locked in to hitting for very long stretches and is pretty much automatic when that happens. At his price tag to a cheap team like Milwaukee, you hate to let someone like that go. I still don't think we've seen his best yet..career minor league numbers looked positive and he's about to hit his peak age. It's unfortunate that two of their best players play the same position and are both cheap right now. I really think he's going to turn into a .310/25HR type of player when he levels off and the Brewers could really use that. Unfortunately there is no position for him. He is not versatile enough to move and if we had a DH spot, we'd put Fielder there, but unless we switch back to the AL... The problem is serious as Fielder is ready and the Brewers want him to get experience for next year (see the rash of youth they've brought up already). The Brewers think they have a Frank Thomas - type future perennial allstar in Fielder. They need to move Overbay now. If you had been on the Brewer fan boards at all this year, you'd have seen a hundred posts along the lines of "we know we must deal overbay, but who would take a first baseman that cant hit for power?" These posts began BEFORE the season. His days were already numbered. Melvin is no rush and he's posturing to sweeten the deal. The Sox need to overpay and Melvin won't settle for just an even deal. After all, overbay is the fan favorite, and Mark A has just "won" back the crowds to miller park. the deal needs to look good so it doesnt look like they are just throwing in the towel on the season. That deal seemed to work for both teams. Viz at times can give us heart attacks. His splits against lefties are nowhere near what they were last year. I am more of a fan of high BA doubles type hitters than most. I would like to pick up either Overbay or Huff. Someone that can give us a good bat, which we need but can also be part of a future. Kong will get his big money probably after this year, but I dont see this team paying 10 million for him. I am getting numb to the trade rumors now. This is worse than the hot stove season. Hopefully a few moves are made and we get some reinforcements for the playoff run.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) At first, just from watching Iguchi this season, you wouldn't think of him as the MVP. However, the more you see Willie play, the more you appreciate what Iguchi has done this season. We sure take for granted his contributions. Thank God we picked up Gooch.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Have you missed the 2-3 times he's said Willie's been bad this year. The point is every single a game there's a scapegoat. Willie was bad tonight so were a ton of other players. The entire team played like crap. I am not on willie for just tonight. He has played like crap lately. Tell me it wouldnt be nice to trade for Vizquel, move Uribe to utility player and send Willie down.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Hey -- flavor of the month, it's all good. I hope for Bobby that he doesn't have a couple of bad appearances in a row, though, or else someone's gonna need a new sig. I've never wanted Harris to start. I've felt all along that he'd be a decent fill in for an injured player, and would do Ok in a platoon role. First if you were in gamechat or anything you would know I have been high on Jenks since we picked him up. He is not my flavor of the month. Plus when I was down in ST I got to see him in a few games and was hoping the kid would get his act together. He might not turn out. But thanks for the concern on the sig :finger . Harris is not a good player all around. There was a very big reason KW got Gooch. He didnt hit last year, he couldnt steal last year. He plays some nice defense for the most part.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Oh, ok. Thanks, I'll come to you next time I need help scouting some major league players. Thanks. He would of been sent down if it wasnt for Credes back. That is well documented. But hey maybe we can start him in front of Gooch. I think he is a difference maker.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Neal Cotts wasn't a major leaguer to you, either, earlier in the season. Thank goodness we rushed his ass to Charlotte, huh? Neal had talent. He just couldnt throw strikes consistantly. Willie is a no tool player.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) I don't think he's defending his play. I'm certainly not. He's been awful this year. But Sox fans tend to come up with a scapegoat for every game, rather than a team failing. Harris was awful tonight, but he's not the only one... Willie Harris is not a major leaguer. Ozuna cannot at all anytime play 3rd base Konerko should not be with the team next year for lots of money. And if this was Garcia the A team would of been starting
  22. Okay why is the B team in because we want to rest guys. Yet Kong plays and gload sits on the bench. Unlike the other B teamers. Gload can hit and Gload can play D.
  23. WAY TO f*** OVER MARK OZZIE. OZUNA, WILLIE AND TIMO.
  24. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) ok no Shingo did not pitch well at the begining however he needed to have a chance to work himself out of it. Ozzie gave every opportunity to Koch to get himself to keep the closers role. This is a quote that is perfect about it. It's from Yahoo. Its okay Josh, you can move along. Let Shingo go. Its okay. You can let him go.
  25. He is taking a dump on the team, stadium and the fans. Now he even called the stadium the "Joan". Our team is overachieving. Can a mod move this. I was in the wrong forum when I posted this. Sorry.
