  1. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) the O's are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR ME TO POOP ON! Great quote.
  2. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) HE GAWN!!! Not cool. I hope he comes back healthy and is the same player. Never celebrate or make positive comments about an injury like its a good thing when an opposing player gets injured.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) Way back machine to 2000. White Sox vs M's. Lost first game 7-4 in 10IN. Lost 2nd game 5-2. Lost 3rd game 2-1 on a bunt single in the 9th. All 3 were tough contests where an error or a mis-play made the biggest difference. It was also a complete shutdown of our 3-4-5 guys during that stretch. How many pop ups and K's did Konerko and Thomas have that series. Our pitchers didnt pitch that bad. Our offense though shutdown for the most part. Hence where the famous term CORPSEBALL was born. With Frank out now, its time to get a good high BA stick who can give us double and drive in runs. We have enough high strikeout, high power, low BA guys who will be prone to slumps against good pitching. Lyle Overbay, LETS GET HIM NOW.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) I think no moves means a very tough climb come playoff time. The Sox have peaked with their current roster, we've seen this team at it's best. I don't think I can say the same for all the other potential playoff teams. The talent on the offense is fine, we just need someone to get through to some of these guys to stop going for the homer. Our usual suspects for homer or nothing their BA's are down from their career, their strikeouts are up and their homers are up. The minute the offense starts playing team baseball again is the minute the offense is fine.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) What makes you say that, because of his past? Because everyone seems to say he has turned that around. Even so, its take a messed up mentality to close a game. Looks at Hermy, he is as goofy as it gets. The best part of Jenks getting a shot is it should mean less Viz during key situations. Jenks needs to throw strikes and specifically throw that curve for a strike, not just throw it in the dirt. Why people have been hitting him is they work the count to a fastball count and put a short quick swing on it and let the velocity take care of the rest. Once he can throw that curve for a strike is when he becomes deadly. Its nice that we have such a big lead to let this kid get his feet wet, if we had say a less than 5 game lead he is probably still pitching for the Barons because KW and Ozzie wouldnt of taken a chance on him yet.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) Jenks for Baez is a no-no...that, I'll agree with. Yes! Absolutely. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Survey Says: Wrong! I can't get over how many of you have fallen so deeply in love with a 270lb. that you wouldn't trade him in order to get a player the callibur or Billy Wagner. :headshake Its not his 270lb sexyness that we have fallen in love with, its when the radar gun lights up at 100 and the curve hits for a strike. Its also years and years of having guys come up from the minors that barely break 90. We crave HEAT, FILTHY HEAT. LOL But I really dont think that it would take a Bobby Jenks to get any of those deals done. Baj, and a few of our many OF prospects. Tracey has upper 90's velocity. Plus we could add the X-FACTOR to any deal to put it over the top, DINGO!!!!!
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Jenks is the sexy new prospect. We get it. But, think outside the box folks. If you're able to use Jenks to acquire a guy like Wagner, you do it in half a heartbeat, no questions asked. We needs someone with veteran/post-season expierence and Jenks ain't it. I'm not saying the guy can't contribute this season, but he won't be able to contribute on the same level as say, Billy Wagner. If its something that puts us over the top sure. Wagner is a stud and is better than Jenks no question about it. But to give up Jenks for Baez, FOCK THAT.
  8. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) In the words of KW, "1917". Jenks may be a lights out closer for yrs to come. But not this yr. If he could be part of a deal that nets Wagner, I could live with that. For a middle of the road guy like Baez, certainly not One other thing--Jenks was a waiver wire pickup. How often could a waiver wire guy be used to pick up an all star closer? Not very often. There was this guy named Santana that was a Rule 5 draft guy. His original team didnt think enough of him to protect him, the twins swooped in, the rest is history. BTW In no way am I even thinking of comparing Jenks to any stud on any team, but that was more to illustrate that just because you go on the junk heap once doesnt mean you cant be a star. Its hard to find guys who throw this hard. If he throws strikes he can be something special for years to come. I dont know if we put him in the trade bucket, but then again I am biased. LOL
  9. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) Am I the only one who thinks that Baez isn't much of an upgrade from Marte? Baez's numbers arent all that good. For what Lamar is asking I wouldnt go for it. I would rather make a pitch for Overbay from the Brewers.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) For once I agree with fathom, I think we've got a great shot at making the playoffs and winning the Series this year, but I don't think Burnett's going to better our postiion. We need a stick in the lineup more than AJ Burnett. Someone that has a good BA, good OBP and is more of a doubles hitter. We have enough low BA power hitters. We need someone that we can trust with men on to come up and put the ball in play hard. Not just smack a homer or popup/ground out or K.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I think they won't get Burnett, but they will get Jason Schmidt and Omar Vizquel. I also think they will get Aubrey Huff. At this point another arm and a bat would be welcome my fellow Mick. Hopefully we do something. This team needs a shot in the arm.
  12. The team needs to regroup a bit and get more focus. These big leads make for sloppy play and inconsistancy. We are not treading water. We are losing a lot of series lately. We have lost 4 out of the last 7 series. Our offense scores 40% on the home run. We need to get back to what got us going in the beginning of the year. Our offense was dynamic because it had to be at the beginning of the year. Now with some guys hitting for power we have become stagnant. This is not something you just glide for a few months and play 500 ball and then turn it on in the playoffs. If we do that we will win the division and lose in the playoffs.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Three Words: "Fire Greg Walker" I know that won't happen though. Especially this late into the season. Sounds like a great idea. Too many upper cut homer or nothing hitters on the team. I never saw so many guys sub 260. Its like we have a bunch of Rob Deers on the team. Konkero is a solo homer or nothing guy. Last year we would score a ton of runs one day and then struggle for runs the next few nights only scoring their runs on homers. We score a ton on monday and then we struggle to score the next few nights. The only runs we score are via the dong. Sounds like 2004 without 2 300 hitters in the lineup to me. I know Hernandez is a great pitcher for the Royals and all, but he was 1 hitting us until he had a bad inning, that was bad because we hit some homers. Mediocre to Good pitching shuts this offense down. Look at what happened when we faced Wade Miller. El Duque pitched his ass off, and we lost because the girls couldnt string a few hits together.
  14. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) Considering how he started out a little bit ago with over 20 ERA now has it at 4.30 something... the kid is proving quickly he belongs up with the Sox.... the guy is simply nasty. I remember reading about this kid a few years ago and his 100mph fastball. All I saw with our prospects was 90mph finese pitchers. When we picked him up I kept him on the radar hoping he would come back from his injury last year and would gain his velocity and learn some control. I got to see him in ST and he didnt have anywhere near this velocity and his control was iffy but you could see the stuff was there. With his youth, as long as he keeps healthy and throws strikes he should be filthy.
  15. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) I was very, very impressed with him. First time I've seen him and he was breaking off those pitches. Even as he tired, he battled. Thats why this guy is a BEAST
  16. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Ozzie is a matchup guy. He lives & dies by the Pitcher vs Batter thing. I think it's ok to consider it but it shouldn't rule over game situations & performance. Yeah I am sure the matchups favored us starting Freddy in the 9th in that game.
  17. QUOTE(Nokona @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) His velocity was down to a pultry 95. Even at throwin the paltry 95 he still has better stuff than Jizcan.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Vizcaino has been good for the past 2 months. I don't know why when bullpen problems occur, the first sign points to him. Politte was literally all over the place today. He did not make one mistake today, he made multiple mistakes today. He had wild pitches, couldn't find the k zone and when he did, he served up a meatball. I don't like the fact that Ozzie took out Garland after only 88 pitches. I really don't like the fact that Ozzie took out Cotts after 6 pitches I think it was. He wasted his bullpen early on. There is a wierd bias thing going. He has the quick hook for garland who wasnt tired after 88 pitches, but lets his nieces husband start the 9th in a game last week after throwing over a 100 pitches and having a long rain delay.
  19. I am biased, but I think he did good. As long as he throws strikes he should be ok.
  20. One player did not lose this game. It was a lack of execution by numerous members of this team. Garland did not deserve this. He pitched pretty well. Jenks did well in relief. Hopefully his arm didnt fall off. Spiderman had a nice clutch homer earlier. Hopefully losses like this can prove once and for all to KW that we need upgrades. The standing pat because we have the best record in baseball isnt going to help. We need a high BA line drive hitting guy on this team. We have too many how BA thumpers who can hit the ball to mars but cannot string a few hits together. We rely way to much on the home run and this is not the offense right now that Ozzie had in mind. This is the 2004 offense for the last few weeks. My only concern is that we used the pen a bit too much this series and we should of won a series with our best 3 going.
  21. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Man Timo must be hurt... Ozzie is jealous
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) expect more polished, further along, higher touted prospects in return for thier starting fistbaseman. Sounds like Joe "500 foot homer" Borchard. We could throw in Willie "Speed Demon" Harris and Cy Felix Diaz. That should overwhelm them and bring Overbay into our grasps.
  23. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) Can we trade for Carlos Lee, too? He's good. We could send them the other Carlos Lee and reunited this family once and for all
  24. I actually like this lineup today. Arow hitting 3rd, Gload in. Should be a consistant lineup.
