  1. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) sox traded for blum, its a official. And so ends the Willie Harris era on the Southside.
  2. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) I just read the report. Nixon has a strained oblique muscle. That doesn't sound like out for the year to me. Plus they just added Jose Cruz Jr, suggesting they are looking stop gap, not long term. And the prospects TB was getting when Manny was part of the deal included Anibel Sanchez, a AA pitcher who seemed a lot more like Gio (who I would give up) than McCarthy. Funny enough I put my trust in KW. They pay him a good amount of money to do this for a living. If he trades BMAC for Huff, maybe its a good idea. I know we all become attached to certain players. But if they trade them you move on. This is not 1930 where a player stays with a team forever. You have to move on and find allegiance with another player on the team. I liked Maggs, he was my type of hitter. I have moved on. If they trade Jenks, I will get over it and move on. I am a Whitesox fan first. KW does things that will help the team and are about winning. Everyone was bent all out of shape at losing Reed last year. I remember all the freakin away Freddy Splits and how freddy is garbage. Well Freddy has turned out fine.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) DISCLAIMER: Kenny Williams will be making a move between now and 3:00 CT. Consequently, there will be a variety of different emotions/backlashes in response to said move. Before melting down, or posting some violent tyraid that no one enjoys reading, please, do yourself--and likewise, all the good folks at Soxtalk--the favor of reading and re-reading this post. Do you remember that Olivo character? That, "can't miss" "five-tool" catcher that General Manager Kenny Williams foolishly traded away to Seattle for the single most coveted starting pitcher on the market in Freddy Garcia? You know Freddy Garcia don't ya...The current 10 game winner with our belov'ed White Sox. Well, after hitting a robust .154 with 5HR and 18RBI with the Mariners in over 50 games, Olivo was sent down to AAA. There, Olivo went on to hit .233 with 3HR and 26RBI. Suprisingly, or not so suprisingly, enough, the Mariners were quick to get rid of Olivo as he was traded to the Padres for C Miguel Ojeda and a minor league pitcher. Couple that with the rumors that no one on the White Sox liked pitching to the young backstop and you may have a deal in which Kenny Williams comes out smelling like a rose. Does that Kenny Willams have a good sense of what he's doing? ...I think he might. Great post. Prospects are just that prospects. Everytime there has been a cant miss prospect, they come up and fail.
  4. This move is for this year and beyond. You get Huff who is a good young left handed hitter. He is at a good price right now. You replace Konerko who is a myopic pull only power hitter. Huff hits for average, he has a few 300 seasons and has started slowly this year. He is back up to .270. Project more power here at the Cell over the 65 degree juicebox. Huff is also a BoSox killer. His splits against the bosox are great. He would be an asset in the post season. I like Brandon as much as the next guy. He possibly a great future. But we went through this same crap last year. We were trading away the next Irod, who was traded again after spending a good amount of time in the minors this year. We traded the next Mark Kotsay who has been a good fielding but hasnt clicked with the bat yet. And also a throw in Morse who seems to be the best stick out of that bunch with no glove. I would trade McCarthy for Huff.
  5. From Rotoworld Jeremy Affeldt has been in several trade rumors, most notably involving the Marlins and Diamondbacks. The Royals reportedly asked for Carlos Quentin for Affeldt from Arizona and were shot down. Affeldt's name has also been linked to a three-team deal involving the Marlins and White Sox, where the Royals would receive either Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney. Jul. 31 - 9:34 am et From the KCStar where rotoworld got it Baird also spiked a trade rumor that suggested the Royals are involved in three-way talks to send either Jeremy Affeldt or Mike MacDougal to the Marlins in return for a top outfield prospect from the White Sox. The deal would center on the White Sox obtaining right-hander A.J. Burnett from the Marlins. The Royals would get either Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney, ranked by Baseball America as the White Sox’s top two prospects. The Diamondbacks are also believed to be aiming for Affeldt but are unwilling to part with outfield prospect Carlos Quentin.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) LOL, different side of the fence now, fathom?? I think people have their expectations higher. I don't mind Blum as long as the prospect isn't anything major. I think some people are getting the feeling for whatever reason that this deal would mean no Huff which is entirely untrue. I dont know if anyone is getting upset with fathom on this. I think its all the build up over the last 2 weeks of the damn deadline. ESPN has a freakin countdown clock. We are very close this year to a team that can go all the way. But I would give up on Huff for a second if the tampa-mets-bosox deal went through. Facing Huff and Cameron is a hell of a lot easier than facing Ramirez. If the bosox give up Ramirez. That weakens them. I dont care if we dont make a move as long as our compeitition(BoSox,Yanks, A's, Angels) dont significantly upgrade that makes the matchups even worse.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) We don't have Blum yet, for the record. Sorry getting ahead of myself. Getting Huff would still be nice.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Who would you have preferred? Derek Jeter? We go from trying to get Tony G and losing out on that, to possibly getting Macowiak, and now we have Blum. Whatever, as long as Ozuna is not playing 3rd anymore.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) Maybe he wants to keep as many chips as he possibly can to land Huff?? I don't know, maybe though. If thats the case, great. If this is our only move.... BOOOOOOOO!!!!
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Who would you rather have: G. Blum or W. Harris? The answer is obvious to me. Thats not how to judge this trade. I think some people might give two thoughts of a steaming pile of dog s*** over willie harris. Everyone agrees that Harris is a goner. But is this the best utility guy move KW could pull off?
  11. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) I'm still not convinced. Besides, this isn't worth getting excited over, which I'm not. You know the deal's not worth making when you're more concerned about who we gave up than who we got. Now were was the great Bruuuuuuce Levine on this goldmine move. Maybe Kenny has a total smokescreen going and he is going to layer some crap on the outside and make some major move. Or this is one of a few non moves that is all we make. Not a good first splash.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) Do chicks really ever take a 5'9 170 lb guy who is trying to pimp seriously? Isn't he like Stifler's little brother? Now starting for your Knights.......Big Pimping Willie Wee Wee Harris [
  13. So is it Bye Bye Willie now. What is the roster move that allows this.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Yippee. Career line of .253/.317/.396. Pretty useless vs. lefties. So, another guy who can hit righties. Ross Gload says hi? I swear... if any of these prospects are remotely considered 'prospects', than Kenny deserves a beating. Remember at Soxfest, When questioned about the budget for this year, KW talked about the flexibility of getting someone midseason. Hopefully a "Blum" was not the flexibility he was talking about. YUCK
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) It's on 4 different message boards that they reported it on a San Diego radio station. Nothing like another low BA, low OBP guy for the team.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) It makes total sense. He's a back-up 2nd base/3rd base guy, who's a switch hitter. See ya Willie! He had a terrible June, but he's been very solid every other month. I would rather have Macowiak. WTF
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) I'm so f'ing frustrated with the trade deadline. Even if Kenny wants to acquire two f'ing Devil Rays it's going to take McCarthy? Are you kidding me? A) Snag Mackowiak B ) Get another SP in here ASAP I can't take the Cuban Pitching Crisis anymore. Mackowiak would be a much better option as a 3rd base backup than Pablo. I like the idea. He hasnt done to much in a while, and his value should be low. This could be a low cost option and shouldnt hinder KW from making a bigger splash. I still feel we need another stick.
  18. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) the O's are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR ME TO POOP ON! Great quote.
  19. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) HE GAWN!!! Not cool. I hope he comes back healthy and is the same player. Never celebrate or make positive comments about an injury like its a good thing when an opposing player gets injured.
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) Way back machine to 2000. White Sox vs M's. Lost first game 7-4 in 10IN. Lost 2nd game 5-2. Lost 3rd game 2-1 on a bunt single in the 9th. All 3 were tough contests where an error or a mis-play made the biggest difference. It was also a complete shutdown of our 3-4-5 guys during that stretch. How many pop ups and K's did Konerko and Thomas have that series. Our pitchers didnt pitch that bad. Our offense though shutdown for the most part. Hence where the famous term CORPSEBALL was born. With Frank out now, its time to get a good high BA stick who can give us double and drive in runs. We have enough high strikeout, high power, low BA guys who will be prone to slumps against good pitching. Lyle Overbay, LETS GET HIM NOW.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) I think no moves means a very tough climb come playoff time. The Sox have peaked with their current roster, we've seen this team at it's best. I don't think I can say the same for all the other potential playoff teams. The talent on the offense is fine, we just need someone to get through to some of these guys to stop going for the homer. Our usual suspects for homer or nothing their BA's are down from their career, their strikeouts are up and their homers are up. The minute the offense starts playing team baseball again is the minute the offense is fine.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) What makes you say that, because of his past? Because everyone seems to say he has turned that around. Even so, its take a messed up mentality to close a game. Looks at Hermy, he is as goofy as it gets. The best part of Jenks getting a shot is it should mean less Viz during key situations. Jenks needs to throw strikes and specifically throw that curve for a strike, not just throw it in the dirt. Why people have been hitting him is they work the count to a fastball count and put a short quick swing on it and let the velocity take care of the rest. Once he can throw that curve for a strike is when he becomes deadly. Its nice that we have such a big lead to let this kid get his feet wet, if we had say a less than 5 game lead he is probably still pitching for the Barons because KW and Ozzie wouldnt of taken a chance on him yet.
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) Jenks for Baez is a no-no...that, I'll agree with. Yes! Absolutely. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Survey Says: Wrong! I can't get over how many of you have fallen so deeply in love with a 270lb. that you wouldn't trade him in order to get a player the callibur or Billy Wagner. :headshake Its not his 270lb sexyness that we have fallen in love with, its when the radar gun lights up at 100 and the curve hits for a strike. Its also years and years of having guys come up from the minors that barely break 90. We crave HEAT, FILTHY HEAT. LOL But I really dont think that it would take a Bobby Jenks to get any of those deals done. Baj, and a few of our many OF prospects. Tracey has upper 90's velocity. Plus we could add the X-FACTOR to any deal to put it over the top, DINGO!!!!!
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Jenks is the sexy new prospect. We get it. But, think outside the box folks. If you're able to use Jenks to acquire a guy like Wagner, you do it in half a heartbeat, no questions asked. We needs someone with veteran/post-season expierence and Jenks ain't it. I'm not saying the guy can't contribute this season, but he won't be able to contribute on the same level as say, Billy Wagner. If its something that puts us over the top sure. Wagner is a stud and is better than Jenks no question about it. But to give up Jenks for Baez, FOCK THAT.
  25. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) In the words of KW, "1917". Jenks may be a lights out closer for yrs to come. But not this yr. If he could be part of a deal that nets Wagner, I could live with that. For a middle of the road guy like Baez, certainly not One other thing--Jenks was a waiver wire pickup. How often could a waiver wire guy be used to pick up an all star closer? Not very often. There was this guy named Santana that was a Rule 5 draft guy. His original team didnt think enough of him to protect him, the twins swooped in, the rest is history. BTW In no way am I even thinking of comparing Jenks to any stud on any team, but that was more to illustrate that just because you go on the junk heap once doesnt mean you cant be a star. Its hard to find guys who throw this hard. If he throws strikes he can be something special for years to come. I dont know if we put him in the trade bucket, but then again I am biased. LOL
