We better keep Konerko, his numbers are just as...
3E8 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know what we should do about 1B/DH next year. All I can say is that with the exception of Konerko, the 1B/DH free agent market is not great this offseason: Rafael Palmeiro Jose Offerman Wil Cordero Frank Thomas (Player + Team option) J.T. Snow John Olerud Dave Hansen Brad Fullmer Julio Franco Tim Salmon Doug Mientkiewicz (Vesting Option) Kevin Millar Paul Konerko Dmitri Young (Team Option) Scott Hatteberg (Team Option) Eduardo Perez Robert Fick Greg Colbrunn Mark Sweeney Tino Martinez (Team Option) Ruben Sierra Daryle Ward Travis Lee Olmedo Saenz Erubiel Durazo Brian Buchanan The year after, however, is better: Sean Casey Phil Nevin Shea Hillenbrand Derrek Lee Jeff Bagwell (Team Option) Darin Erstad Dimitri Young (Team Option) David Ortiz (Team Option) Craig Wilson Nick Johnson Aubrey Huff -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) More importantly...Whether the Reds are just willing to give Griffey away. Yes, I was assuming the Reds would be willing to get his contract off their hands, which may not be true at all.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) You know, if KGJ is such a priority for KW/JR now (and I think it is), and with Chris Young now going absolutely nuts in Birmingham, why didn't they just claim Griffey, offering to just take the whole contract straight up and without trading anyone? I mean, If JR is really willing to open the wallet... SFF I guess it comes down to which you value more: ~$13 million or 3 prospects.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:12 AM) Firing a HOF manager sure is a good start, but I am taking it you don't remember things like his infamous 12 for 6 player deal he tried to work with Texas, or the horrible drafts that he made, or the multiple 90 loss seasons, the complete lack of free agency signings... Hawk had no clue how to be a GM. I said his amateur draft was not great, but several good GM's have had picks that never pan out. Plus you are blaming him for 90 loss seasons that aren't really his fault. Both our pitching and offense was on the slide, not Hawk's doing, he inhereted this problem. He did a nice job to patch the team up with better arms. The Texas deal got us a good relief pitcher in Schmidt and a decent infielder in Tolleson. We lost Correa who pitched average for the one year he lasted in the big leagues, and we lost Fletcher who was blocked by Ozzie. No free agent signings? George Foster (maybe he shouldn't count), Steve Carlton, and Craig Grebeck. Hawk also was responsible for netting Lance Johnson and Ivan Calderon while giving up marginal talent. He had a clue, and wasn't horrible.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) The Hawk was one of the worst GMs ever. He is great as an announcer, and was solid as a ballplayer, but he was a HUGE f***up as a GM. A HUGE f***up? What are you talking about? The worst thing was his amateur draft. Can you tell me what he did that made him one of the worst GM's ever? I bet you can't.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) Hawk was a horrible GM so I wouldn't say his actions would exemplify typical GM behavior. He wasn't horrible.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) The only bad part about the Sox playing today: 2 hits for Timo in the leadoff spot equates to about 2 weeks worth of starts at the leadoff spot. When that game got called, Timo lost 13 points off his batting average. :headshake

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 05:02 PM) Pretty sad effort by Gerald Williams there. To say the least...he got really scared of the wall

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Where? I right clicked the screen, and got some options. Full screen wasn't one of them. right click > zoom > full-screen

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) My set-up has it as a tiny screen on my computer, but it's crystal clear. I'm very satisfied with it. Everyone knows how picky I am with things, and I can't complain about it. It's great when there's no games on TV. You know you can right click and full-screen it right?

Perfect game too or no?

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) BTW, Timo Haters: Timo Time is 2-for-2. 2-3?

Those are bangers and mash.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) They asked for Wright or Reyes for Baez. Chuck LaMar is just totally insane.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:45 AM) griffey has cleared waivers, per ESPN and his agent, in the Dayton Daily news http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...4redsnotes.html Let's make a deal.

I ate breakfast with Orton several times, he is a stellar guy. He had a Bears logo as his facebook picture months before being drafted. /self-promotion I shudder to think how he'd handle first-team NFL defenses in the regular season though.

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) Why would Cincy want Young and Rogowski? They have plenty of 1b/OF position players. They would want SP most likely. Possibly Tracey, Baj and Liotta. I agree with you that they would want arms. But scratch Tracey and Baj from the equation because they are currently on the 40-man.

Pretty funny but the material isn't as good as it used to be. I have it if you want it.

Haren the tough luck loser tonight. 9 IP, 3 H, 1 ER.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Not a chance. The Bears will bring in another QB next year. Let the Vince Young era begin.

Ricky Gervais was on Letterman tonight and he was nothing short of awesome.
