  1. I hate off days at times like this. I just stew in misery with no game for a possible win to make me feel better.
  2. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) Paraphrasing the MLB rule book: A club needs to secure MAJOR LEAGUE WAIVERS on a player in order to option him for assignment to either the ml club or a ML club when the date of assignment is >= 3 yrs from the date the player was first assigned to a ML club. Option years spent prior to being assigned to a ML club count towards those 3 yrs. Yes but I don't think they pass through the assignment waivers before being traded. I believe they pass through the other type of waivers.
  3. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) For the ignorant amongst us: MAJOR LEAGUE WAIVER: A club needs to secure this type of waiver in order to option a player if the date of assignment is >= 3 more yrs after the date the player first reported to a ML club during a non-strike year. One year is deducted from the above 3 yr period for each option year spent. Now that you have been educated (at least a little) please attempt a rational argument as to why Anderson & BMac have to clear ML waivers? For the rest of you, they don't. What is holding this deal up is $$$. Pure & simple. The Reds saving $8.5M/3yr trading KGJ is simply not worth the loss in franchise value & ticket sales to trade him. The $26M owed to him in 2023-2024 if invested probably (5% earned compounded annually) would depreciate to $3M by the time the first payment is due. If JR is serious about going for it ALL he needs to come up with more $$$ for the deal to happen. Well aren't there two types of waivers? One waiver is for assignment of a player which the text you brought up relates to and the other type of waiver is for the unconditional release of a player. The unconditional release waivers I believe are the waivers that almost all players are placed on at this time of year. So maybe they have different rules and regulations for the unconditional release waivers which would require players on the 40-man to clear no matter what their service time in the MLB is.
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) BMac & Anderson both have option years & signed ml deals. They don't have to clear ML waivers. This can get done. Can you explain why? I thought anybody on the 40-man roster is forced to clear waivers after July 31?
  5. This thing has gotten to a point where I'm just waiting for Hawk to issue a fight invitation at dusk by the bikeracks.
  6. Can we put this in ATH? I got scared it was a White Sox.
  7. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) There are some suprising players on that list. But Blalock how could no one claim? Or has it become that GM's almost claim no one out of respect to the other teams? SB Sometimes I think GM's don't put claims in because it's painfully obvious that certain players and their contracts would not just be handed over. But I don't know.
  8. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Someone should explain to this idiot how trades work after July 31st Because NO ONE would claim Brain Anderson from the wire. You beat me to the punch. Should we include McCarthy too, Jay?

    Nicknames.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:26 AM) "Jesus". When I was younger, I had really long hair and a full, messy goatee, plus I was thin. Haha, I had the same nickname for the same reasons. Except I had a full beard. They also called me Johnny Damon or Jim Caviezel (played Jesus in 'Passion..').
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) It's as though the batter's eye would leave something to be desired. Excellent point YAS. I thought all parks had to conform to this and have some sort of batter's eye? This center field seems to have no consistent color out there.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) And I wasted my time sitting through all 16 innings of crap. You got off lightly. I paid $$ to sit through it.
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) 'Best Record In Baseball' argument for ignoring our troubles has officially been eliminated tonight with a Cardinals win. I suppose now members, as well as Hawk, will have to actually examine this team rather than rely on this distinction. Whoa whoa whoa there. We're still the best team in the AL, so that title should hold us over for a few weeks at least. We can worry about facing the facts if it comes to a point where we don't have the best record in any categories.
  13. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) Damn condo's. I always thought I was the only one who thought it would be a good idea. SB Estimate on $/sq. ft.?
  14. This game was lost the moment Timo was pulled for Dye, discuss.

    Skip Griffey

Okay let's bring up Haigwood he can be our Felix Hernandez, then we will promote Bajenaru again he can be our Huston Street, if Brian Anderson doesn't make a good Jeff Francouer then we can still try Young, Owens, and even Sweeney. After this we should be all set. /sarcasm
  16. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) I almost fell off my couch when he had 2 balls. They must be working with him on being more patient. He swings at too much junk. Ever since Frank took him under his wings, I'll bet his P/PA has gone up.

    Skip Griffey

QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) (I would likely bring them up after rosters expand and use Anderson until then.) They'd be real useful in the playoffs then. Oh wait, they'd be ineligible. The whole point of the Griffey trade would be to push for the World Series.
  18. wtf is up with Morneau? His batting stats look like Joe Crede's.
  19. Will they let you watch road playoff games inside the park? That's what they do in other major sports.
  20. Don't get your hopes up. I watched four episodes this weekend. Only one episode was good, and I would say a large handful of 'The Office' episodes were better than it. Disappointing series so far. I'm wishing for better.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Uribe for the year is hitting .167 in the number 2 spot with a .167 OBP. 12 at-bats man. I can make Timo look quite good with a sample size like that.

    8/15 Games

All Sweeney's hits today singles. How bizarre.
  23. Think we will see his debut tomorrow night? That would be a pleasant surprise I didn't expect when buying tickets months ago.
