QUOTE(gbuk @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) How can the Big Ten be overrated when everyone knows it sucks? he was referring to a few big ten teams being more highly rated in the polls then they deserve (i.e. michigan state, indiana, wisconsin, purdue, etc.). -

in regards to richmond, i have not seen him play so i can't really draw any conclusions. but, i do know that virtually every scouting service that rates high school basketball players (rivals, scout, hoopmasters, etc.) has placed him among the top-five kids in the 2010 class. maybe they are all wrong, i don't know. -

apparently there was some ugliness between uab fans and memphis players during saturday's game. dorsey had to be restrained, and apparently a player believed to be tiger reserve pierre niles slapped a uab fan. here are some photos of the incident. look to the far right and LOL. -

i think it's presumptive to say skiles can or can't recruit, since he hasn't been in that role. i can, however, see both sides. on one hand, he's clearly a my way or the highway guy, and i have a hard time seeing him enjoying being buddy buddy and catering to the wants and needs of a 16-year-old high school junior. on the other hand, he can walk into someone's living room and give them a damn good idea of what it takes to play in the nba, from both a coach and a player's perspective. how many coaches could make a similar pitch? in all, i think skiles would be a good hire for indiana. his basketball i.q. is unquestioned, and he's a guy with a lot of integrity, which i'm certain would be appealing to the hoosier fanbase. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) The team rankings are, I wasnt speaking about the conference. I do not believe there is a top 10 team in the big ten this season. got ya. sorry for the misinterpretation. i agree with you there, although i would not be surprised to see a b10 team make a run in the tournament. one usually does, regardless of the league's strength or lack thereof. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) The Big Tem overall is overrated. There isnt a clear cut top notch team in the bunch. i don't think the big ten is overrated at all. most rankings have it as the sixth or seventh best league in the country. pomeroy has it sixth behind the acc, pac-10, big 12, big east, and sec. that looks about right to me. -

i think it's been well-covered that richmond's has some issues this year transitioning into the waukegan program. waukegan has a first-year coach who's trying to implement his system and turn a historically bad program around. his system has richmond playing a pretty set post position, which is probably not best-suited for his particular skill set. i don't blame waukegan's coach for playing him there, because as a guy trying to re-establish a program you have to look after the big picture and not cater to the needs of a particular player, no matter how good that player is. at the same time, it doesn't surprise me that richmond or his father aren't wild about him playing the post. i can't blame them either, nor am i going to raise a red flag over a high-school sophomore who is immature. he'll grow as time progresses. i also don't doubt his talent remotely. as an aside, richmond was ranked no. 2 in van coleman's most recent 2010 ratings. in the 2009 ratings, griffey, paul, richardson, and bertrand are all top-100. the first three kids are top 75. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) I don't either. I think now is a time IU could go with a good solid coach that doesn't have to be a big name. On a separate note: Am I in never, never land thinking that if IU fires Sampson that the penalties won't be that bad or possibly not more than a loss of a scholarship or two with probation? Here is my thinking. It is obvious that Sampson and his staff were the problem here. The NCAA report stated that they believe Sampson lied to IU investigators as well as the NCAA. IU has a clean history with no major violations in the past 45+ years. Sampson made mistakes and unfortunately they were the same kind of mistakes he previously made. His actions in essence tell you that he chose to be selective in how he was going to follow the sanctions placed upon him. Now if he didn't fully understand them, then he is stupid or IU did a terrible job covering them. My guess is that doesn't even apply. So I am wondering, if IU fires Sampson, self-imposes say another scholarship and extends that to two years, what else is necessary? The problem has been eradicated in that scenario, IU is punishing iteslf going forward for making the hire. Is that enough? I'm trying to take off my crimson colored glasses here and look at this objectively. I'm interested in the thoughts of anyone else will do try and be objective as well. i think what probably will determine the severity is whether they decide that there was a lack of institutional control of not. if so, i could see a severe penalty that results in a loss of scholarships and a postseason ban of more than a year. if not, i think the penalties would be similar to what you suggest. but i'm no expert so any of my thoughts on penalties are pure speculation. in general, i don't think the ncaa is as willing to give out severe penalties any more. they see what happened with smu. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Matta? given that he's a big name and grew up as an indiana fan i do think his name will come up and maybe iu makes a call. that said, i don't think there's a snowballs chance he goes. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) Why the blacked out names? Also, I'm sure it says somewhere in there, but who provided this information? The players listed? i don't know why names were blacked out and i've seen no explanation. in terms of where the info came from, i'd bet phone records, discussions with the players in questions, interviews with people close to the program, etc. i also wonder if senderoff decided to return the "thrown under the bus" favor. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) Read the report; no current players are listed. The names mentioned in the report are the following: Devin Ebanks’ mother Yvonne Jackson, Derek Elston, Yancey Gates (Cincinnati), Evan Turner (Ohio State), Demetri McCamey (Illinois), Markieff Morris (Kansas), Marcus Morris (Kansas), Kenny Frease (Xavier), Dejuan Blair (Pittsburgh), Bud Mackey, Phillip Jurick (Tennessee), Robbie Hummel (Purdue), Scott Martin (Purdue) and William Buford (Ohio State). this is correct. however, there are a fair amount of names blacked out of the report. not sure of the reasoning behind that. -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Nope, you're stuck with him and his first weekend tourney losses!!! Should be interesting to see if Gordon's name comes up. It's probably more than one recruit, but it would be interesting. he isn't mentioned in the report. mccamey is, though. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) He'll do that, and then make you wonder what he was thinking the next game. Bar none, he needs at least one more season in college, for his own benefit, and of course the benefit of OSU having him next to Mullens. Anyone going to Evanston tonight? Tickets are going off at 12 bucks a piece. mullens presence will definitely help koufos. then you can move koufos to power forward, start mullens up front and both guys are well-suited for those roles. with that said, i do think that ohio state will have some struggles next year. they will still be painfully thin at point guard and i would not be confident with pj hill and a freshman (crater) handling that role. i do wonder if turner will play some point next year, because he does have that ability. i actually thought it would happen more this year, but butler has had a great senior year. -

i have to say it's really great watching mccamey come into his own with this team. although he didn't have a great shooting night last night he found other ways to contribute and almost had a triple-double (10 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds). he, legion, and smith should make a nice backcourt next year. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Illinois is in town tonight... I can't wait to get back from the game to see a number of posts in here complaining about how bad the refs are and how you guys can't wait to see Pruitt/Randle graduate you forgot: "and how bad weber sucks." -
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) I'd love for one of these guys to be interviewed after a loss and the interviewer to ask them "Why did god want you to lose today? Does he love the other team more?" or "Why did god make you give up that dinger in the 8th ?" hey, god has to have a good time, too. he's probably hanging out with the apostles, keeping it real and all, and says, "hey watch this." *god whispers into the air* "throw first-pitch fastball, it will work" *apostles roar with laughter* i mean, why wouldn't people believe this. we are talking about the guy who freaking invented humor.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 12:27 AM) BJ Mullens cant get here soon enough. if koufos stays, ohio state will be formidable next year. mullens is more of a true five, and if you put koufos at the four you have a lot of potential mismatches for other teams. -
