Boers and Bernsie's Tournament of Bad

only a five-seed for mariotti? he got hosed. -
i went to my 10th about seven years ago. it was actually a lot of fun, although my (now ex) wife went with me and kind of was a buzzkill. i went to a chicago public school, and she went to a rural school in ohio. i'm not quite sure she was prepared for the event. on the positive side i don't have to worry about her ruining 20.

on one hand, i'm happy illinois won. i'm an illini fan, and when your team wins you should be a little happy at least. and i'm happy for chet. he's taken a lot of tihs for something that really isn't his fault. if he was playing his proper role on this team (any team) he'd be a fan favorite. he plays hard as hell, is gutsy, and clearly cares. but he's forced to be something he's not, and his every flaw is exposed again and again. on the other hand, i'm not happy illinois won. you struggle to beat a crap team without it's two best players? you almost let a win run down your leg yet again? christ. plus this means i have to watch one more game of wretched illinois basketball this year. one more game of horrid offense, bad free throw shooting, and dudes choking? ugh. (i-l-l...)

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) Why's that? I thought they went about it in the perfect way. They said, hey, here's a network that'll bring in millions and millions of viewers annually, more than Hallmark, Lifetime, WE, all the god channels, etc etc, probably combined. We deserve to be on basic packages, not premium packages. Comcast was pissy because they were being told what to do. I'm amazed they held out this long. Might as well wait until the summer/fall when football starts up again. As far as the programming, I don't watch a whole lot either besides Illinois games. However I love the ability to watch other conference games that have meaning but aren't carried by ESPN - like some of the games between mich st, indiana, purdue and wisconsin. The Minnesota Bball journey seems like a pretty cool behind the scenes show. Mostly I stick to their coverage shows. They had some good specials on the bowl season, the combine, etc. well, i'm not really going to take a side in a battle of millionaires. and in the short term, the league did shut out many, many big ten fans and kept them from being able to watch games they would have otherwise seen. that, and i am not real fond of the way they strong-armed many smaller production companies who had worked out deals with individual schools for programming through the years. i also think the league was rushed into production. i work at a big ten school and have been in on a few meetings with btn execs, including silverman and their other upper management team. when they first came and presented to us last summer, it was clear that they had not thought through certain aspects of the network, aspects that would make it more valuable than football and basketball and nothing else. one example of this is the fact that they "offered" each school 60 hours of non-sports programming. this was offered as a supposed benefit for universities, but who has the resources to immediately produce this much programming? that's a multi-million dollar proposition and is totally unrealistic. yet they hammered us with this 60 hours like it was some gift when there was no realistic way of making it happen. so no, i don't like the way they did their business, and that goes well beyond the cable battle. i think they would have been better off laying the groundwork for the network and launching this year. does this mean i think it will hamper them long-term? probably not. the league will succeed. but talk to development officers and fundraisers at other big ten universities and ask them how it's affected them. it hasn't been a good thing.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I watch it all the time, more than I watch ESPN. /shrugs To each their own, but if you want Big 10 information and coverage your going to get a lot more on BTN. agreed. i don't have the channel but my girlfriend does so i get to watch from time-to-time. i've liked what i've seen on two levels. one, i think it does give you a better look at all of the teams in the league. big ten tonight is a good show and pretty well-produced for a new program. second, as an illinois fan living out of state, it gives me a chance to pretty much watch every game without having to go to a bar. now, there's no question there is plenty of niche programming on that i would not be interested in. i don't ever expect to find myself watching some of the other sports other than football and basketball. and some of their filler programming is kind of weak right now. then again, there is not a network on television that i'd watch from morning to night anyway, so in that regard the btn is no different than any other network. in all, i like it. i don't like how they've gone about their business and was very skeptical about the network initially, but i've been pleasantly surprised with the network itself.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) I don't know. Big, big, big time schools are going after him. I don't have the confidence in Weber to close the deal. c'mon train. get with the program. everyone knows the rub on weber: great recruiter, can't coach. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Sounds like someone jumped the gun on this. Stewart hasn't committed yet. yeah, i just got an e-mail from a friend about that. stupid scout. ah well, at the end of the day i do think he will be an illini. -
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) I think I am pretty hip to Lost but maybe I forgot this but was Alex born on the island or brought over with the boat. I think the sickness is related to the same thing Desmond suffered. It would jsut make sense to be and not have to be another whole minor plot deliniation. If Alex was born on the island she would be an exception to every other pregnant woman.....oh wait if she was pregnant before getting ot the island she'd be ok. Oh the rules. Also what is so funny about Ben asking if the rabbit had a number on it? alex was born on the island but she wasn't conceived on the island. same with claire and aaron.

donivine stewart from bartonville limestone committed to illinois today. i'm not hugely surprised he committed, but surprised he committed so soon. the 2011 class is off to a nice start. -
good news. just in time for sports no one cares about.

i haven't watched, but i'm always looking to pick up new(old) shows on dvd so i might have to check it out. i actually just finished the alias series over the weekend. it got a little soft in the middle, but overall it was some good television.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Finally caught up!!!! I would think I will be another active voice in the thread. One thing I noticed. Jack "lied" on stand saying there were only 8 survivors from the class. He obviously is confident his story doesn't have any holes in it. So that must mean the outside world still has never found the island. If they did, obviously swarms of people would be there, and eventually find the cemetery. i think there are absolutely still crash survivors on the island.

The Official 2007-08 NFL Draft Thread

i think the wisest long-term thing for the organization would be to take one of the offensive tackles. however, from what i've read, although there is great depth only clady is a guy who could probably step in and play from day 1. given that most of angelo's moves have been focused on the present, not the future, i have a hard time seeing him using the first pick on a lineman who isn't going to be able to play immediately. which makes me think that a running back or a wide receiver is the likely choice. out of those, i'd probably lean to mendenhall (my illini bias aside, i think he could be really, really good). -

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) It never ceases to amaze me how absolutely stupid people are. For anybody with as much power as Spitzer, and especially somebody who gained their power basically by getting rid of stuff like this, to allow themself to get caught in a prostitution ring, wow. I will never understand how some peoples minds work. well, it's the same overriding logic that makes you go home with the unattractive girl at the end of the night. sometimes being horny makes you do dumb things, damn the consequences. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) Rough break for the Illini, Penn State is a far better team than Iowa. Iowa and Michigan might be the worst game I've ever seen in a Big 10 tournament. Not that it matters, no matter what happens, Purdue and Wisconsin should win big in their 1st games. Penn State is the only team of any note there, and the Big 10 tournament isn't in Happy Valley. i dunno, i'd prefer they play penn state and feed into purdue than play iowa and feed into wisconsin. in general i like illinois's bracket placement better in the bottom. plus, penn state is now playing without cornley and claxton.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) Does anyone find themselves watching this show and then just thinking "f*** Lost." This show is so awesome it kills me. that describes me perfectly. as for the man on the freighter, i've thought for a long time it was michael. but they almost seem to be leading you to thinking that, setting up another surprise. it is never like this show to be predictable and right now it is predictable that it is michael. who knows, maybe it is. i always liked his character and will be happy to have him back. that then begs the question where is walt, who has not been listed on the credits this year. i've read another suggestion that the man on the boat is locke, in some kind of time-travel dealie. not sure i believe it.

illinois offers bartonville limestone freshman donivine stewart to my knowledge this is illinois's first offer in the 2011 class although i would not be surprised if delasalle's mike shaw and curie's wayne blackshear also have offers, since both are projected to be likely top-50 kids. stewart seems likely to commit to illinois. he's an interesting player from what i've read, not a great athlete and probably done growing at 5-11, but supposedly tremendously smart and savvy. he has scored 45 this year among a series of high-scoring performances. either way, 2011 is the next class that illinois will have available scholarships for, barring transfer. they could have up to six openings that year. -
last year was the first year i made it back in quite some time. took my girlfriend who needless to say was like this year i can't make it though. someone put back a few at keegan's for me.

looks like juco power forward dominique keller committed to illinois tonight. hoopmasters had him as the no. 12 juco this year. definitely fills a position of need, although illinois has never really had a great track record with jucos. keller
