  1. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 29, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) Anyone notice that Uribe has been playing ss and not 2b in Charlotte? Does this mean that when he comes back he is our utility man? hopefully.
  2. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Happened to talk to Bob today, he says as official scorer he gets calls all the time from players and coaches. His main concern is getting the call correct so he'll always review the play to make sure. But knowing Bob's personality, he is not one to be browbeaten into changing a call. He says mostly when it's about the White Sox, one of the coaches will call and it's not a big deal, he says it has been like that for decades. Players call too, but generally less than the coaches. He said Cabrera probably had a different protocal in Anahiem and guys who take pride in their defense (and their numbers) make more of an issue about it, but he said it's rarely if ever contentious. Further he said these guys stand to make a lot of bonus money for winning Gold Gloves or finishing high in the voting. So there's the monetary factor as well. Lastly he said people would be surprised about which players in the past have called contesting scoring decisions. So, Bob isn't taking this personally. To me, this is just a case of two proud guys bumping heads (Guillen and Cabrera). It happens all the time, as fans we probably hear about 5% of incidents like this. It is obvious though that Cabrera isn't comfortable here for whatever reason and his stay here will almost certainly be 2008 only. Until he leaves, I hope he does great. Expect to see more from Cowley on this in terms of potshots at Cabrera. Sun Times editors love this stuff and Cowley has been known to be vindictive. As for Dotel and Allen Thomas ... another case of a new guy getting used to how the White Sox like to run things. This is not the first time Allen Thomas has had a dust up with a player and I'm sure it's not the first time Dotel got testy in his career. In closing, there is nothing wrong with a little controversey. It happens a lot, we just don't hear about all of it. nice post. thanks for sharing that. imo, in two weeks this whole cabrera deal will be a non-issue. just fodder for debate, nothing more, nothing less. it's funny how people love to blow this stuff out of proportion as if two grown men having a disagreement is some novel happening. and just for the record, i'm putting my money behind thomas in a match-up with dotel.
  3. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 28, 2008 -> 05:17 AM) Is there a contender out there that would be willing to deal for a SS? The Blue Jays? The Rays? The Red Sox? If this causes KW problems I don't know what he can do. I wouldn't be at all opposed to a MIF of Alexei at SS and Richar at 2B since that might be our future anyway, but you can't deal Orlando without getting what you'd consider fair compensation, i.e. something worth close to the picks that Type A status brings. Kenny isn't the type of guy who will put up with a whole lot of s*** from his players though, and from his quotes he doesn't exactly seem thrilled with Mr. Cabrera. With Richar and Uribe both on the come-back trail, if this keeps up it won't be long before Cabrera is on the block. unless the sox go in the crapper and are out of contention by the deadline, there is no compelling reason to trade cabrera.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) jason kendall. (can't allow a season to go by without someone asking, nay, begging, for Kendall. It always used to make me laugh) can we have a griffey or big unit thread, too?
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 27, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) is richar really still in our plans? i feel like he's just dropped off the map entirely. i mean, i realize he's hurt, but now w/ alexei... doesn't he become expendable? probably not. you likely have ramirez at short and richar at second on opening day next year. fields at third, too.

    Do you cornhole?

    i enjoy playing the game, although i'm admittedly uncomfortable with its name.
  7. caruso was awesome in "jade." or, not.
  8. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ May 4, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) need to kill this thread, it's going to be a while, like seasons, before it can be rightfully resurrected or two weeks.
  9. i grew up in beverly and lived there until about 10 years ago when i moved to central Ohio. there are very few sox fans out here, although one of the local sports radio guys is a chicagoan and a big sox fan.
  10. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 19, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) eligible immediately? he must sit out a year.
  11. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 16, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) not that there's anything wrong with that.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 14, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Before Illinois fans get worried about Griffey's ranking, he is not concentrating on AAU ball this summer and his AAU team is freaking terrible even when he does play. This isn't a Semrau situation. when i heard griffey was going to skip some of the big events to do the adidas nations stuff my first thought was that his ranking was going to drop. if your not being seen by the evaluators you are bound to drop. but truth be told i'd rather he do what he's doing and concentrate on skill development and developing better strength. i'm actually surprised bertrand did not drop more. i know he's been battling an ankle injury for most of the summer and hasn't had a lot of great performances.
  13. good times at the BASS pro fishing shop

  16. benson hires new lawyer, other witnesses emerge
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:00 AM) Brandon McGowan did a damn good job in there last year. I would assume he and Mike Brown are the starters at the moment with Craig Steltz, Danieal Manning, and Kevin Payne as back-ups. that's a nice safety group. really nice if mike brown stays healthy (obviously a big old if).
  18. rick carlisle to the mavericks nice. i was not excited about him as a potential bulls coach.
