  1. eh. i was thinking mark mangino was in the fold.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) Only new show that has some what caught my eye is called Fringe (at least i think thats what its called.) fringe wasn't bad. i don't think the dialogue was quite as snappy as i've come to expect from abrams' vehicles but there's enough there that i'll keep watching for the time being.
  3. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:08 AM) The posts on here are f***in hilarious. I like the screwed up system that gives the same value to my uneducated vote as your all worthy and wise one. There are no educated people that like Senator Palin. McCain and Palin will win this election because me and all my stoopid friends. It's so disgusting isn't it?? oh, so now you've elevated her to senator. is this another attempt to hornswaggle people into thinking she's more qualified than she actually is? geez, you cons will leave no stone unturned when it comes to deceiving the american public. (yes, i am kidding but my liberal leanings have rendered me unable to figure out green text)
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) I can't argue with the bold, but political reasons are the only thing that candidates in either party care about. And in terms of that, Palin (along with the convention) has given McCain a significant boost in the polls. did palin deliver the boost or did the convention? i don't recall significant jumps until after the convention, when the typical jumps you'd expect to see following a convention happened.
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 02:23 AM) No, it's a substitute for the "irony emoticon." It's difficult to "factually rebut" an opinion, so I don't see what purpose your post serves. oh, ok. so it is just your opinion (from watching on television many miles away) that palin delivered the speech without the help of a teleprompter. got it. i can see this just being an opinion, as there is no evidence that suggests it actually happened. thanks for clearing that up for me.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) It certainly is. does that emoticon mean, "i can't really factually rebut your answer so i'll attempt to be funny"?
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 01:32 AM) The same source(s) that reported also reported that Guiliani experienced the same problem. I don't see their motive for propping him up. well it makes it more believable if he had issues right before palin did, considering there would be no time to fix the teleprompter between the two speeches. no one has been willing to go on record about this, btw. no one in the mccain campaign, no one at the xcel center, no one in the audience. no one. this report was based on a piece of information from a mccain staffer who wouldn't give his/her name. it's also interesting that so many who are quick to point out the liberal bias in the media are equally quick to put total and complete faith in something no one will put their name to and has only been reported in a blog called "red state" and those noted liberal bastions fox news and drudge. too bad, too. her speech wasn't bad. it didn't really need a sideshow to prop it up. the insecurity is showing.
  8. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 11:32 PM) I heard her teleprompter was malfunctioning and she was actually only going off her notes written in front of her. that was false. a reporter who was in the front in the press area could see both palin and the teleprompter said there was no malfunction.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) If this is true, I lose any respect I had for him. That's not passion. That's being a f***ing idiot. i agree that it's stupid to punch a wall (if that's what happened) but to "lose any respect" is a bit much. guys go off in many ways when you fail at the game, more than fans will ever know. it's unfortunate if this is what happened here but i think this type of judgment is a bit extreme. was it dumb? yes. was it over-the-top ridiculous and unheard of? not even close.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Well I'll say it: We're f***ed. You can't lose your best everyday player in early September during a tight race and expect good things. I hope Griff, Kong, and Swish step up and prove me wrong, but just feels like a disaster. it does, no way around that really. quentin has come through time and time again this year. his numbers are no doubt great, but to me that's secondary to when he's accrued them. it seems like he has delivered in key situations again and again. that can't be replaced. at the same time, at least there are viable options. if you don't make the griffey trade you are looking at seeing a lot of anderson/owens in the line-up. while i do like anderson i am not confident he's the guy who can step it up in a pennant race. at the least you insert a veteran first-ballot hall of famer who has shown he can get on hot streaks. so that gives me a little hope. false hope? perhaps. but it beats none at all.
  11. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) On a side note, if this makes Youkilis win the MVP, I'll vomit. Please give it to Hamilton. oh, it'll be worse when it's pedroia.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) September should bring excitement for me, but am I the only one that seems to get all the anxiety and rare excitement? If we win at this point its that we should win, if we lose it throws me overboard. It's so hard, but so much better than being apathetic in Sept. i won't be excited until we clinch the division. i plan on being pretty excited that night. the next day, i'll be anxious about our playoff opponent. i'm looking forward to that anxiety.
  13. QUOTE (easyw @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:25 AM) Last year was about the craziest college football season ever. If I could go out on a limb and pick one upset I'm taking Ohio University over OSU in Columbus on Sept 6th. The Buckeyes will be looking past the Bobcats towards USC the next week. Hey - there is no glory in picking the favorite... in this case, the OVERWHLEMING favorite... i'll be at that game. i was also at the illinois game last year. coincidence?...
  14. there is definitely a risk to approaching someone this early. and to clarify my earlier point, i wouldn't probably go to the route of making contract offers at this point. for all you know, these guys may not want that either. if cq were to continue his production he could make a helluva lot more in two years than he could today. who is his agent, any way?
  15. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) After this season, he will have 2 years, 65 days of major league service time, so free agency is 3 years away. So do you offer a 5 year, 40+ million deal? More? And if he turns down a multi-year deal, what do you renew him at? The minimum isn't fair and would probably piss him off. Your thoughts? i would open discussions with he and alexei sooner rather than later. probably danks and floyd as well. these are four potential cornerstone type players and i'd rather not dick around and play contract roulette with them.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Most coaches will use somewhere between 15-25% of the previous season, unless injuries are involved. This has no basis in the research literature and is strictly based on anecdotal evidence from coaches. you know, i've always had an issue with the innings pitched stat as it relates to pitcher health. wouldn't pitches thrown be a more reliable and accurate way to measure the chances of a pitcher breaking down? some pitchers can get through an inning in 10 pitches, others use many more. kind of an off the topic thought but it's always something i've wondered about. i'm sure some of the more stats-oriented folks here could provide the rationale behind using innings pitched as a primary measure that dictates pitcher health.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:19 AM) Haeger and Broadway as the candidates for Tuesday's start??? Has anyone seen Charlie pitch recently? We've been hearing Carrasco, Porcello, Broadway and even Egbert's name from time to time this year, but I don't think I've seen many piling on the Haeger bandwagon...does everyone think it will still be Richard? Or will they flip-flop back to Broadway. I think KW must have been thinking in the back of his head watch Dickey get crushed by the Sox that there's nothing worse than an ineffective knuckleballer...not to mention all the stolen bases surrendered. Well, if nothing else, these last six weeks will give us something of a "proving ground" with the 5th starter's spot. Going into ST next year, if KW doesn't make a move, we'll have Clayton, Broadway, Haeger, Egbert, Carrasco and probably Horacio Ramirez all in the mix. The question is whether any one of those guys can do better on a consistent basis than what we got out of that role from 2001-2004? One move that seems obvious is switching Richard and Horacio Ramirez next spring. Seeing Thornton's wear and tear and results when he goes 2-3 innings and sees the order twice, I don't think we'll ever see him in a starting role. i'm not sure the tigers are going to give up porcello to a division rival. besides, his agent is boras.
  18. thiggy should be back in the television here in a few weeks.
  19. they should have let ozzie translate. that might have spiced it up a little.
  20. QUOTE (knightd1 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) more hugs ST Seriesly major lurker here. I try to visit the site daily. I, for the most part, gain knowledge reading posts here and I get a good chuckle every now and then. I may or have not visited wsi, I don't remember. Didn't leave an impression if I did i guess. My answer to the original poster: quality over quantity. i love the fact that "seriesly" has joined the soxtalk lexicon. that in and of itself is evidence that the world of soxtalk is thriving and vibrant.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) No you din't. You need the accent on the the RO in the middle as the PA guy used to say it when he came in the game.. I probably should have put a few more Os in it also. That's what I meant to say. I've never been much aof a splllerr. Salome BaROjas!!!!! LOL! i totally forgot about that.
