  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 01:50 AM) Also, impressive win for Ohio State. Michigan State is STILL a joke in big games, and Ohio State is still going to lose to Penn State next week in Columbus, but the Buckeyes deserve credit for their performance today. i will say that penn state is not going to beat ohio state. penn state has been a nice story thus far but they've played no one. ohio state's win over michigan state trumps any of penn state's wins.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) Juice Williams sets the Big House offensive record, boom. Great performance today I L L I N I what a beatdown.
  3. i had no problem with what he did. balfour was out of line. now, would it have been more powerful if he didn't subsequently strike out with the bases loaded? sure. but the idea was the right one.
  4. i heard an interesting interview with pedro gomez on the series yesterday. although he didn't pick the white sox, he likened the rays to the 99 diamondbacks, who he covered that year as a beat writer. he said that diamondbacks team was really talented probably much moreso than the mets, and it won 100 games. but he said that group (although it did have some good veterans) struggled in that series (ultimately losing 3-1) because they'd never been in the playoffs as a group and were not prepared for the pressures of the postseason. he felt the sox had a better chance than others were giving them because their manager and a few key players have been here together before. gomez thought that gave the sox an immeasurable intangible benefit the rays wouldn't enjoy.
  5. i guess i don't understand the thought process of putting alexei, perhaps our best run-producer, in the two hole.
  6. very relaxed. no one expected us to be here and no one expects us to win the series. considering what has happened this year and where expectations were coming in to the season, i already consider the year somewhat of a success. not the highest level of success for sure, but considering the circumstances i'm happy with what they've done. all that said, i'm sure that as soon as the game starts i'll be on edge.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) I think your right about Ozzie. He is locked into to Wise mode. Wise is 3 for his last 31. yeah, with apologies to the rally dweezy, i just don't see it. frankly i'd rather see anderson getting the tick that dewayne is.
  8. it makes the most sense for the reasons balta pointed out above. you just hope he has good stuff and have richard at the ready if he doesn't.
  9. where's everyone who was talking choke? hat's off to this team. say what you will but this has been a remarkable year. no one predicted this. yet despite losing some of the team's best players, here they are. kudos to oz and crew. i'm really proud of this group.
  10. *i'm not worthy* *i'm not worthy* what a freakin stud.
  11. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) And yesterday's game where we scored 6 runs? We could have had you in LF and it wouldn't have mattered since the Sox had a five run lead in the fourth and let it go. They choked. It's comical that anyone is arguing otherwise. Just admit it. It doesn't make you any less of a fan. Without Quentin they still have 9 players in the lineup. If Dye, Thome, AJ or Konerko were even mediocre this last week instead of embarrassingly bad this division would be ours. That's why you cant use this "Injures = suckage" formula. Honestly, who's to say Quentin would have even had a hit? I hate where this is going. Williams is going to use the smae exact argument as you about injuries and of course you and others will eat it up. Who f***ing cares if Charlotte took the field? They had a 2.5 game lead with a week to play and only needed one win the dome. A win which was more than possible in Game 3 even without Quentin! And let's not act like we were going up against Cy Young candidates. Both Baker and Blackburn respectively looked terribled; especially Blackburn who was hanging pitches on a Kirk Sarloos pace. Also, let's not forget that until about a week ago Wise was hitting the s*** out of the ball and being a damn good replacement for Quentin. As had Uribe in replacement for Crede. choke? they won one game in the dome this year with their best offensive player. that trend was just going to suddenly change? i'd be more inclined to call choke if the sox blow it against the indians and don't either finish the regular season with a playoff berth or at least force a game monday.
  12. rose bowl is atop the list. attending a rose bowl is on my bucket list. a few others... -death valley: night games and from what i've read one of the most raucous tailgate atmospheres. -the swamp: not a huge fan of florida but i've always liked that stadium. -l.a. coliseum: just a great and historic venue. -happy valley: i got a thing for valleys.
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) I want to stay positive so bad! But, when you play a contact team like the twins with a put the ball in play pitcher like Buehrle , you do not have griffey and dye in the same outfield! Obviously, defense is not a priority for Ozzie. i have it on authority that d-weezy told both dye and griff that he's got their back and they needn't worry about defense tonight. then he presented them both with customized lawn chairs for them to use tonight. this will only slightly limit their range.
  14. we need a big night from the "o." c'mon guys. one time. one time.
  15. i've said before and will say again that if there is a rebuilding process, kw will not be a part of it. from day one kw has had a win-now approach and i think he is far too competitive to want to preside over any extended period of time when we are losing more regularly than winning. to me, rebuilding means we are going to go way young and suffer for a year or two with the promise of the future to get us by. while the idea is nice in theory, i'm not sure it will work in practice. for one, history has shown that the sox need to win to draw. today we are drawing almost 10,000 more fans a game than we were pre-2005. excepting last year, that's because we've been a much more competitive team. if we opt for a rebuilding approach, attendance will drop. if attendance drops, payroll will drop and probably right about the time that q, ramirez, floyd, and danks come up for new contract extensions that we would not be able to afford. so count me solidly against any rebuilding process. i've been through periods of time where we were all excited about our prospects only to see one after another fail and the big club remain a mediocre one. at the same time, i am wholeheartedly in favor of a re-tooling, and i'd argue that that has been an ongoing process since 2006 and will probably continue to be.
  16. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) Javy's reply was almost Jon 'Chilly-Chill' Garland-esque. Look, Javy is .500 career pitcher, always has been, always will be, what you see is what you get. Everyone knew that before he came on board. It's just a matter of which guy will show up on which night. Suddenly people act like he sux and want to call him out. How dare he perform like he's performed for most of his career. word. at this point i think crede's back will feel better before javy turns into whitey ford.
  17. you could quarrel with how he responded, but even if javy said, "you know what, ozzie's right. i need to go out there and be a (butt) kicker tomorrow night because this is a really big game for our team" it doesn't really mean anything. people read too much into what these guys say.
  18. i do wish obama had a little more experience in the senate and on some foreign policy issues. i've liked him for awhile in terms of ideology, but before he declared i did think that perhaps he'd be a stronger candidate in 2012 than now. however, with an unpopular incumbent going out of office, this year was probably the year to run one way or another.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Just wait til you hear our chants. the GILF national anthem
  20. i used to follow the directions before i shaved my head. now it's just polish, buff, repeat.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Soooo true. I started laughing out loud when a guy called me a liberal sheep because I didn't fall in line with his argument that Palin has more experience than Obama because governor > senator (what a dumb thing to argue about, really). Eventually I managed to counter whatever he was tring to say by saying there really is no correlation between what a person did (governor, senator, general) and their performance as president. So he gave that up and arbitrarily changed the subject to Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers. It was pretty surreal, actually. It's almost like he couldn't even comprehend what I was saying if it wasn't a GOP talking point. I'm not sure what his goal in telling me this was, even. to be fair, i think there are supporters of both candidates who are going to parrot back what they hear their favorite commentator say rather than doing research and looking into the real issues of the day. i guess what bothers me is it seems that people are approaching the election much like they do sports. instead of the twins suck, the sox are great, it's obama sucks, mccain is great. that approach is fine with sports because they don't really matter in the grand scheme. but it's a dangerous approach to take when the future of the country is what's at stake.
  22. i let an obama volunteer crash at my house for a few days while she was here for the ohio primaries. i'll probably put a sign in my window, although i haven't had a chance to go and get one yet, partially because i've had no FRIGGING ELECTRICITY FOR FOUR DAYS. ahem. i also periodically engage in political arguments on message boards. let me just say that after traversing the internets for a few months, this country is really friggin polarized and unable to do anything other than spout their party's talking points of the day. oh yeah, and most importantly, i'll be voting for obama/biden on nov. 4.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Face melting goodness! The whole , "I love him, we need to save him!" thing was kind of contrived though. yeah, that bugged me and i didn't think the writing quite as crisp as say lost, alias, or some of abrams other outings. but it was only the pilot and they obviously wanted to introduce a bunch of stuff since there will be a few different layers to the story. i think we'll get a better sense of the storytelling once we actually get into it a little bit.
