  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) they gots problems.....now betancourt moves from set up to closer...jensen lewis looked a bit shaky and still can't really be trusted...and kobayashi is an untested rookie ....this leaves alot of question marks in their pen and betancourt was bad in his first attempt at closing. hence, the jobo experience.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) Tribe will never win a World Series with Borowski as their closer. borowski to the dl today with a strained triceps. in his absence, the indian pen coughed up yet another lead in the ninth. it really is amazing how a bad bullpen can just kill a team.
  3. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) According to fightingillini.com...Rodney Alexander has left the Illinois basketball program. I wonder who they might get with that schollie? since it's only for a year, probably jeff jordan.
  4. looks like clemson at illinois in the big ten/acc challenge next year. edit: also rod alexander will not return to the team next year.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) Crede has matched his homer total from last year and is only 2 doubles short of last year's total in 1/4 of the ABs. I guess his back is feeling much better. The Tigers look defeated in the first inning. For a team thats supposed to put up 1000+ runs this year, something is horribly wrong, and if they don't stop the bleeding pretty soon, I think it will snowball into a real bad season. agreed. i do think the tigers will put it together offensively at some point, but they are digging a deep hole that they might not be able to get out of when you consider the inconsistency in their pitching staff.
  6. just discovered the shins this weekend. apparently i'm late to this party. good band, though.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) Dayum, it took me about a month. I would sit down and think I would watch one episode but than that episode ends on a cliffhanger or high note and had to watch the next one. Before I knew it, I'd shoot out 4 or 5 episodes in a sitting. making the transition from lost dvd watching to watching on regular television is really difficult. it's like trying to drink only one beer.
  8. probably tombstone, although jack's aren't bad if you add some extra cheese. i also like totinos, although i acknowledge that despite being called pizza they really are not pizza. i prefer cheese-covered crust with tomato sauce. but it is good and cheap cheese-covered crust with tomato sauce.
  9. sportwriters are just pissed because bloggers have made them have to work harder. wah.
  10. my worst was in 97 (i think). my cousin got us free seats three rows behind the sox dugout. the sox were scheduled to play the mariners and randy johnson was the listed starter. it had rained most afternoon and was raining heavily at game time. they called it shortly after 7:30 and we headed home. on the ride home south on the ryan the rain stopped. it didn't rain again all night. i was pissed.
  11. indians extend carmona club options could keep him with the team until 2014.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 04:45 AM) Mayo, D. Jordan, Joe Alexander going pro. Blake Griffin returning to school. Still waiting on Hansbrough, Lawson, Chalmers, Arthur, Augustin, Rose, Westbrook, CDR, Chester Frazier, and Koufos. koufos is supposed to announce next week. my guesses on those are hansbrough (stay), lawson (stay), chalmers (go), arthur (stay), augustin (go), rose (go), cdr (go), koufos (go).
  13. as an addendum to the boren discussion, he was at ohio state's practice yesterday. that aside, here's a report from illinois's spring practices. the one thing that has really emerged in ever report i've read is that our defensive line looks like it is going to be really, really good. potentially, eight guys will play. practice report
  14. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 05:04 AM) You kinda look like Spence from King of Queens. chubby, short, fat? yep, sounds about right.
  15. i think tex hit the mark with his post. we have two mlb caliber third baseman, one on our roster and one in the minor leagues. that is a good thing any way you look at it. if joe crede has a helluva year, stays healthy and consistent, the 2008 white sox are going to be better for it. if he gets hurt, plays like crap, or just has major issues, we have a ready-made replacement. i fail to see why this has been such a flashpoint for debate. the uribe thing i can understand, but the crede thing is mystifying to me.
  16. here's me across the street from the convention center in new orleans this past january. as you can see, i am most certainly not a pimp.
  17. i enjoy the site. good variety across a broad-range of topics and some great white sox discussions. i read sox threads more than i post in them, but i really feel like i've learned a lot about the team from the varying opinions. i think i've definitely gained a more informed appreciation of the more sabermetric view of the game. although i don't think any set of metrics can ever totally define baseball, it does have some value. other than that, i live out of state so it's just great to hear some white sox talk. in terms of what makes me leave, i probably don't have any one thing. i post on a few boards and you just have to understand that there's jagbags on every board. no need hand-wringing over it. if you don't want to read someone, don't read them. if you don't like a thread, don't click on it. it's not that hard.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) I might believe Rose would have never gone to Illinois except that his brother works for Nike and Memphis is an Adidas school. Other than that small fact, I guess Illini fans can keep blaming Reggie when they should blame Bruce, but hey who needs facts. you have to put the blame for derrick rose not being an illini on weber. whatever various other factors were in play, a coach is judged on bottom line results and he didn't get it done on rose or collins. but, that's water under the bridge at this point. frankly, as a cpl graduate i'm proud to see two cpl point guards playing prominent roles in the final four and championship game. that probably trumps any bitterness i'd have over the way their recruitments played out. and i haven't been on since last night but, man, you have to give self and his team a lot of credit. it's been a long time since i've seen a team that is as good as carolina is (and make no mistake they are very good) get that bad of a beatdown put on them in the first half. kansas looked spectacular. gotta give self credit for having his team ready to roll right from the start. i'll take memphis in the title game, but self has put to rest a lot of the doubts about his his coaching ability, imo.
  19. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) I could blame ESPN & Forde, but I'm at least partly responsible. On topic, I actually think Indiana's demise is greatly exaggerated, depending on what the NCAA does. If Ellis and Bassett are back next season I think they'll be middle of the back in the Big Ten. And they'll miss White much more than Gordon. agree on white. i also do think that crean should at least consider giving those kids another shot. based only on what i've read reported and not rumors, it's easy to see that the turbulence of the past few months would have negatively impacted those kids, their attitude, and their ability to mesh with dakich. admittedly, part of that stems from the fact that i've heard from numerous people at bowling green that dakich is a major douche, so it doesn't surprise me that kids would have issues with him.
  20. i don't know why people got down on danks. he wasn't expected to make the team last year, but made it, looked good with poor run support, then tailed off late in the season when he'd thrown more innings than he ever had before. to me it wasn't that complicated why he crapped out late. i think he'll have a nice year. and i agree with jason that i could see him as a no. 2, especially if he's able to throw the cutter consistently. that gives him a real nice mix.
  21. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) I'd actually disagree with that. I mean I probably give too much credit to Weber personally, but they all benefited from his system more than they would have anywhere else. Not a lot of programs run the motion offense as well as Weber. In fact when Weber came in Dee was ready to leave because he hated it so much. A season and a half later they were in the championship game. And I disagree when Weber gets hit for taking good players to the NC game, as if everyone should do that. Well look at all the teams that have teams with 2 or more future NBA players on their roster that didn't do jack this year: Georgtown, Tennessee, Indiana, MSU, Duke, etc etc. Talent only gets you so far. Putting that talent in the right position to win is the key. I think Weber has done that. This year he obvioulsy lacked the key ingredient: talent. well, we'll have to disagree on the first point. i don't believe the only system they could have succeeded in was motion. those guys were recruited for the high-low, so i'd imagine they all (augie added in) had skill sets that would fit in that system as well. and to me, the engine that drove that group was dee and deron's chemistry. those guys played together for so long (with the illini and two years with the u.s.a basketball juniors) that their chemistry could have made just about any system work. i do agree on the second point. weber should not be dinged for taking a talented group that he did not recruit to the title game. there is a long, long list of supremely talented teams that didn't do squat because they were poorly coached. i just don't think weber is the only guy who could have done it. i think self could have, among others.
  22. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) Things will be better soon probably as soon as we leave cleveland.
  23. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) That's called developing top 75 talent into lottery picks my friend, not being handed a sure bet. i think dee, head, and deron have all been on record as crediting weber for helping them to develop their games. that said, i don't think weber is the only one who could have done that, and i think a fair amount of coaches could have taken that group to the title game. not to diminish what weber contributed, but those guys were really, really good.
  24. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) I seem to recall illinois wanting crean pretty badly, and then crean reupping with marquette. the reports of illinois contacting/offering crean when self left were fiction, although crean did do a nice job of parlaying the rumors into a nice extension.
  25. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) weber isn't going anywhere. the marquette mention was a throw-away speculative line based on his milwaukee roots. in the interest of objectivity, at least one person close to the program does think weber has interest: champaign news-gazette again, i stand by my thought that weber will be illinois's coach this year. but perhaps it is just more than the blind speculation i initially thought.
