QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) That's about it. The refs all but had Illinois jerseys on or they lose by 8 in regulation. Bruce is a joke and is ruining this program, the players are useless, and nothing will happen anytime soon because Guenther is a fool. Typical night at the hall. Sad part is I said last week Miami of Ohio would win this game and I was serious and right. How sad. while i'm as frustrated as anyone, i'm curious as to why you think guenther is a "fool" for not doing something, and i'm presuming you are referring to him firing weber. i'm aware that you don't like weber, but i'm curious what you think we gain at this point by firing the coach. i think most rational fans were aware that this year and next were potentially going to be difficult. that's on weber for his repeated recruiting misses. at the same time, while there are never any guarantees regarding recruiting, i'm not sure how smart it would be to fire your coach when you have the program's biggest talent influx in years (ever?) waiting in the wings. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) And fyi, zook Is always going to recruit well in ohio, he's a miami man, that's also why he's brilliant. agree. zook's from loudonville and went to miami so he's really familiar with the area. his first few recruiting classes have had a distinctive ohio flavor. brian gamble is one guy who's really shown something already as a true frosh. there's plenty of others and supposedly they also have a verbal from top 09 defensive end melvin fellows. -

good hire for michigan. it will be curious to see what develops with pryor. he is what rodriguez looks for in a quarterback. you take him and mcguffie and that's at least a nice starting point for a spread offense. -

QUOTE(gbuk @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 06:53 AM) His mom is nuts, that's not going to change...Legion is a good kid, always smiling and seemingly always in good spirits, but as a lot of people around the program said about him, he's just a "very spoiled kid", and doesn't understand working in order to get something. However, Illinois needs Alex Legion the player, for what he brings. If you expect him to dribble penetrate and distribute, you're looking at the wrong guy...he can finish in transition with his smooth body control, but he's yet to develop reliable ball handling skills. Decent distributer, but since he's not looking to penetrate very often he doesn't get the chance to showcase those skills. i wasn't speaking specifically of legion's skills, since i'm not that familiar with him. i'm more making a general reference to things illinois's current guards can't do. it appears legion would mostly help in terms of scoring, which is their biggest need. he'd also immediately become their most talented offensive player. -
i've been under the impression that he wants to get the flock out of chicago.

QUOTE(gbuk @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 05:25 AM) Coming from a Kentucky fan, I'm disappointed that Legion left, but dealing with his mother wasn't worth it...to give you perspective read this: http://www.kentucky.com/158/story/189453.html Gillispie would not put up with his mother's s***, as she's clearly more concerned about making money off him than anything...yelling at Gillispie during games to put Alex in and etc. like this is high school. It's quite obvious she runs his life and controls what he does...and mainly for Alex this transfer was about not wanting to work the way Gillispie asks him too. Gillispie works players until they want to quit (just ask Acie Law) and clearly Alex couldn't handle it. However, Weber is not Gillispie. He has a more laid back approach to the game, and with a player the caliber of Legion he will make it work...players like Legion don't fall into his lap, as his recruiting has been his ultimate weakness (except recently). Legion is a smooth wing player who can shoot the three and has a mid-range jumper every player should have. He needs badly to work on his defense, something he just doesn't quite understand yet and he has questionable ball handling skills. Right now he's more a shooter than anything, but if he's willing to work hard, which he hasn't proven, he'll develop those things. He's exactly what Weber is looking for, and once Jamar is back next year these guys could fit the bill for Weber perfectly. I would be very excited if I was an Illinois fan, as long as Legion and his mother decide they want to be there. Be cautious of this guy, but if it works out this is a huge get for you guys. i have mixed feelings on legion. on one hand, his mom is a legitimate kook. straight-up crazy. who knows what happens when she is introduced into the program. on the other, most reports i've read say legion himself is a good kid. again, this is stuff i've read. all that said, this is something the illini clearly have to pursue. their guard play is wretched and i'm not really enthusiastic about waiting until 2009 to see someone who can dribble penetrate, distribute, and hit a shot from time-to-time. legion fills a gaping need, no doubt. -

jarred fayson story interesting that fayson says he expects to split time between wide receive and quarterback at illinois. you wonder if they work some mcfadden-type stuff for him. -
probably adult book stores. you don't want to have to send that strap-on back two and three times because it doesn't fit.

QUOTE(gbuk @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) I'm not arguing, more just giving my opinion on IU. I'll wait to fully judge them until they have their full team, but I don't see a Final Four in their future, but I could be wrong. We just have differing opinions and that's completely understandable. White is a good player, a good college big man, no doubt, I just don't think he's great, that's all. He's obviously in much better shape now than he has been in the past and he's going to have his career year easily as long as he stays out of foul trouble. He's got a solid post game but from what I've seen, he needs to post up more rather than settling for mid-range jumpers, which he's decent at but certainly not something you always want from him. I do like the fact that he's a lot more mobile this year, something that will definitely help him defensively rather than in the past when he was sluggish and had to keep up with quicker forwards. An easy mismatch. I know what you're saying about Jordan, but I'm not sure you understand the type of talent that Joe Crawford possesses. He's been a huge disappoint in every aspect of his career, and has never showed up in a game that truly counts. He can't take over when he wants to, he can't penetrate at will, his shot is about as inconsistent (shooting motion) as I've ever seen, and he cannot finish in the slightest. And this game coming against a team known for its defensive prowess and in a hostile environment there was no way he was going to step up big. It was clear from the beginning of this year that Jordan was already a better version of Joe. Maybe not at this moment, but he's so much smoother, longer, better ball-handler and etc. He's better in almost every aspect of the game than Joe. I understand facing his brother would have been very strange and scary, but it was the same for Joe, considering the pressure on him to maybe live up to some of his potential against his own brother. It was obvious to Kentucky fans that Joe was going to be outdone by his brother, maybe not to you guys, but I'm very impressed by Jordan...he's going to be very good. I understand what you were saying about Ellis, I think I was just comparing Ellis filling in at the 2 to Kentucky's terrible guards. Of course you guys should take that performance. It was a very well played game, but it was nothing special...Kentucky turns the ball over like they're afraid of it. But again, this is just matter of opinion, excuse the long post. i agree with just about all of this. nice post. -
outside of the normal things (world peace, incredible personal wealth, my choice of the world's most attractive women, etc.) i think i want an mp3 player. i had one, but it was recently stolen out of my car. that, and a really kick-ass snow sled. my daughter's about the age where we can start sledding in the winter, and an awesome sled would make that experience all-the-more enjoyable.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) Richmond is committed, he can't sign a LOI till his SR year. As long as Weber is the coach and Richardson, Paul, and Bertrand are committed he will be as well. All 4 of those guys have committed and have been sold on playing together. Next couple of years will be long but help is on the way and the current freshmen are talented. Since I am still pissed, Frazier has actually played worse this year than ever before. His decision making has somehow gotten worse and still refuses to throw the ball into the post. yeah, chet has been disappointing. you know you'll get some good rebounding and defense from him, but he is such an offensive liability it's not even funny. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Apparently Grobe is staying at Wake Forest. LOL, this is just what Arkansas fans do. They have supposedly had everyone from Tommy Tubberville, Mike Leach, to hometown guy Butch Davis as done deals, and of course nothing works for them. Hilarious to watch their coaching search. the razorback fanbase is delusional and always has been. as an aside, i think grobe would have been a perfect fit at nebraska. -
wow. that's crazy. thankfully most people were ok. prayers for the driver as well.

QUOTE(G&T @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) Well I hate to say this but if this team think Rowand will put people in the seats, they will make a deal. Right now they have to be thinking it's going to be tough to get people in the stadium with this team in this division. i agree. bringing rowand back attracts the casual fan who thinks, "rowand? awesome. we're getting the band back together!"

QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) This sounds like the White Sox are just trying to make a splash now, and what better way than to bring back Rowand. that sounds about right. at the least rowand is an upgrade over the current situation and he's a popular guy. at the same time, i can't say it's really sensible financially and i don't think it moves us out of third place in the division.

if we were going to make a philosophical change, now was is not the time to make it. at this point, you've committed to a certain path and a certain line of thinking. you've signed up some vets to long-term deals, made trades that are (mostly) without an eye to the future, and decided to "win now." it's too late to make a philosophical change at this point. i think the best we can hope is that we make another decent signing or two and somehow catch lightning in a bottle. and honestly, if a philosophical change is going to be made, it's probably going to have to involve bringing in a new gm. i'm a kw supporter, but he hasn't really distinguished himself when it comes to either accumulating young talent or developing it. if there is a philosophical change it will likely have to start with a new gm.
