  1. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 02:57 AM) When was the last time Duke actually played a meaningful game in the big ten challenge on the road? They played Illinois on a neutral court 5-6 years ago, and they played a crappy Indiana team a few years ago. Seriously though, have the EVER been on the road against a good team? coach k ain't havin' it.
  2. indiana's jordan crawford suspended for a violation of team rules. various reports say it is for three games, or indefinite. also, depaul dismissed sophomore thijin moses from the program.
  3. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) The ACC is off to another lead in the big ten / ACC challenge. The ACC is 7-0 so far in this competition, and I doubt that this year will be any different, but who knows. I just hope Ty Lawson does not have any lingering affects from his turned ankle. I'm not sure if he will play against O. State Wed., if there is any doubt rest him!!! I see now that Roy said that he will play, but he won't be 100% he estimated anywhere freom 70 to 90%, and said that frazier and Q will have to continue to pick up added time while Ty is banged up. iowa looks to be in line for a rough year. lickliter has his work cut out for him.
  4. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 07:54 AM) Would love to see a new rule requiring at least 7 wins for bowl eligibility now. With so many teams playing at least 7 games, you should at least be required to have a winning record, and not have a chance of having a losing record after a bowl game. Then we might be able to cut out some of these MeinekeDarleneTheCrackSmokerButShesInRehab.com bowls. totally agree. to me, you shouldn't be rewarded for mediocrity, and 6-6 is the definition of medicrity.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:14 AM) If you haven't had a chance to see Kenny George at North Carolina-Ashville, you should see him. He's 7'8 360 pounds, and is actually playing well this year. I watched him play against UNC last year and he didn't even have to jump to dunk the ball. george is from chicago. i think he played at latin. i know he had a lot of injury issues back in the day, but it's good to hear he's at least still playing.
  6. man, depaul loses at home to north carolina a & t 96-93. what's up with that? nice game for draelon burns though with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and two steals. freshman dar tucker had 20 points and 7 boards.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Ominous line from the Buster Olney blog this morning: By the way: The signing of Scott Linebrink is getting a lot of reaction within the industry. ... More on that tomorrow. well, if industry insiders don't like the linebrink deal, i'd have to think the cordero signing will make them flip tihs.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 04:09 AM) Here's to hoping the dominoes continue to fall for the buckeyes. kind of looks that way, doesn't it?
  9. illinois is going to have some issues this year (like last year) because they don't have guards that can either shoot or take you off the dribble. that allows teams to really overplay out front and kind of negates some of the strength they have in the frontcourt. this is likely going to be a running problem all year, as it was last year. however, there were some encouraging things out of last night, notably brock and some of the newcomers. i like what i saw out of tisdale, mccamey, and davis and it seemed like illinois was at its best when it had some of the younger guys on the floor. alexander was OK, but they need more consistent offense out of him because he's one of the few explosive players they have. on the flip side, i tend to agree with fathom that randle just does not play smart basketball. i had to laugh when they left randle in with three fouls and said, "you have to rely on a senior to not pick up his fourth" and not even 30 seconds later he commits the typical randle "reachy" foul. that's just what he does, you can't expect otherwise. i also wasn't overly impressed with pruitt who did not have his best game. oh, one last thing. trent meacham is of no worth to this team right now. i see no reason to play him minutes at the expense of mccamey. mccamey may make mistakes and do dumb things, but i see no short- or long-term value added by meacham playing significant minutes. same for holdren. these guys are overmatched against good teams.
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) and that he eats himself and he's one of the best in the world at eating that, and other things. just not chestnuts.
  11. so, do you actually get anything for being the first to guess that hunter will be a white sox? is there like a cool gift certificate or lapel pin that comes from such a prognostication?
  12. local radio reports that the indians will announce the signing of relief pitcher masahide kobayashi today. i heard the guy's a hot dog...
  13. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) Which is sad, because both should have been solid contributors. Probably more so with Semrau since he lit up most of Ohio in his high school days. yeah, semrau was a good high school player, but he played in one of ohio's smallest divisions in a christian school league. typically he'd play one or two tough teams a year, so his numbers were a bit inflated. i would not be surprised to see him move on. i'm not convinced carlwell will leave yet, however, although it's apparent he's already been passed by tisdale. still, athletic seven-footers are valuable and i hope he can overcome his issues. it is another example of the inexact science that are recruiting rankings. carlwell was a heralded recruit and had the requisite star ranking that everyone pants over. on the other hand, you have tisdale, a kid with a low star ranking from a small school. some were down on him just because of that ranking, but it appears he will be the better player for illinois.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:07 AM) I don't know a whole lot about UofI, but is Jeffrey Jordan playing for any other reason than the name on his back? Isn't he basically a freshman walk-on? I can't recall the last time I saw a freshman walkon get meaningful minutes. it's been widely reported that jordan is expected to see some time this year. illinois's lack of guard depth is the main reason, but those who have seen practices and preseason games say that his ability has been a pleasant surprise.
  15. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Yeah, according to Rivals, Graham has been an Illinois lean for awhile now. i don't read rivals, so that would explain that.
  16. four-star tight end hubie graham picks illinois this is crazy because none of the services even list him as considering illinois. he had offers from florida, georgia tech, michigan, and ucla among others.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) On that topic, did anyone see the Michigan v OSU documentary on HBO last night. It was amazingly done, but left out a great chunk of some of the late 90's teams highlights and coaching stories. Lloyd Carr wasnt even mentioned. Great show though, had me in goosebumps. i actually did a little job-related production work on that documentary here in columbus prior to last year's osu-meatchicken game. you had a sense that they were on to something really good. i haven't seen it yet, but those who do have great praise for how it turned out.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) Really weird looking SI cover for the Big Ten region this week... I don't know how they worked that out, but DJ's contorted hardcore. bad photoshop.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Dude, you are also an OSU fan, why are you wishing "them" good luck. And to be clear, I was joking about the pic. I honestly knew this was a trap game, and it ended up that way. I really thought we were going to end up somewhere around 25-20 in the rankings this year. PLus I made an absolute killing betting on ILL last sat. i hear ya. i do normally root for osu, but my illinois loyalty comes first and i was in the stadium in orange saturday. this week has me all discombobulated when it comes to my fandoms. and i do know you were joking on posting the video. no worries, there.
  20. there will be 13 of these prior to the season. you can find them here: abc.com
  21. in the fourth quarter, i think ohio state was dominated. i think the definition of domination is you know what the other team is going to do and still can't stop them from doing it. that's what happened in the fourth quarter. for the rest of the time, it was a great game, and one that could have gone in the other direction of other variables went in different ways. but, they didn't. illinois played it's best game, ohio state didn't, and that was pretty much that. good luck to osu the rest of the way. beat michigan.
