i watched bionic woman last night and wasn't impressed. it seemed poorly written and acted to me. i'll probably give it one more shot, but it wasn't a promising start. on the other hand, i really enjoyed "life." i think this show has great potential. *waits patiently for lost*

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) I'm not just talking about this message board. I'm talking about the overall uproar across the board by EJ's decision. He was ripped everywhere and anywhere possible and is still seen as a "turncoat" even to the point of death threats and whined about at many sites. These kids are seen as guys who have had second thoughts. IU and Duke are the only teams I detest so this observation is not coming from a fan of either team that was involved with EJ and his choice. I just still see it as "funny" the treatment that EJ got and is still getting by many. there's no need to get in a rehash of this situation because it's done. one fanbase was pissed, another was ecstatic, and the coach of one of the teams admitted himself the situation could have been handled better. but it's over, and going over it again and again is worthless. fwiw, eric gordon himself said there were never any death threats. that was a myth. -

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) I don't know how old this is, but the Morris twins from Philly de-committed from Memphis. He along with Jennings backing out from his verbal from Maryland last week puts some interesting names back on the market. Funny how the outrage isn't anywhere near the Eric Gordan hatred for his change of heart. i don't think it's funny at all. this is a white sox message board that has a fair amount of illinois and indiana fans. it stands to reason that just due to the amount of fans on either side, the debate would have a more of a shelf life here. since there aren't many (any?) memphis fans here, where do you expect the outrage to come from? -
Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman both suck

so where does everything think orton fits in all of this? yeah, he wasn't great in his first tour, but what rookie quarterback is? does he have a future with this organization or is he just end of the roster fodder? -

i'm all for giving griese a shot, but honestly i don't really think it is going to make much of a difference. if we had tons of offensive talent that wasn't being tapped because of grossman's issues, maybe i'd feel differently. somehow, though, i expect we're just going to end up with an immobile quarterback who throws a lot of picks, i.e., more of the same. -

i'm still willing to reserve judgment on benson, primarily because he's the type of back that is going to do his best damage later in the game, and later in the game the bears were not in position to run the ball. grossman, well, what can i say. i've defended him but as time is progressing it's becoming painfully apparent that he's not the guy. he looked like a bumbling idiot back there last night. but i will say that the bears' offensive problems run much deeper than grossman. outside of berrian our receivers are poor. our offensive line is aging and showing signs of wear and tear and just is bad in pass protection. in past years you could say that the run blocking was at least solid, but it hasn't been good yet this year. i give angelo credit for drafting some great defensive players, but outside of berrian he hasn't drafted one offensive player who's proven to be an impact guy. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) For Contreras? Yes, I have to believe Kenny would do that. Not for Garland, but Contreras' perceived value just seems much lower, and he'd like to get rid of that contract and fix a hole for 3 years. wite, please change your sig photo. i have no problem with alternative lifestyles whatsoever, but those nipples frighten me.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) Maybe, maybe not. A 2nd peoria guy with no Chicago connections does seem like a bit of a strange way to go... well, do you know what connections he does have? if you don't, it's presumptive to say he doesn't. jimmy collins is from new york, but he had no problems developing good relationships within the city. tracy webster on the other hand, reportedly had ironclad cpl connections but delivered a grand-total of zero cpl players. besides, the idea that any one hire was going to serve as a magic bullet that solves the programs city problems is unrealistic and shows no real knowledge of what the city is about. people love to paint it as a single entity with a single opinion and that's not what it is. fwiw, my favorite for the hire was gates because i thought he was more experienced and had ironclad connections with whitney young, which has the best collection of city talent. but he wasn't hired so oh, well. i have every confidence jerrance's personality and work ethic will serve him well. and that's no homer view, because i think i've been pretty objective here in assessing illinois's hits and misses. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) Taylor Bell reports there's pretty intense dissatisfaction with the hire in the CPL. If you read the linked entry, it doesn't sound good. interesting that you didn't link the blog item from the sun-times that features the director of cpl basketball lauding the hire. whatever fits your agenda, i guess. -
listening to sports radio today guys seem to think olsen's going to really help the whole offense up. i'm not seeing it.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) Illinois has traded Tracy Webster to Kentucky for Jerrance Howard. good hire. i'm happy to have jerrance back. admittedly he is not the most experienced candidate, but that's my only reservation. the discussion about hiring a "chicago" or "cpl" guy was way overblown. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 03:23 AM) Sounds like ND is refusing to let Jones out of his scholarship so he will be paying his way at NIU this year. If I was an opposing coach I would be all over this stuff. Jones gets one half before he gets benched and then they won't even let him out of his scholarship. A good recruiter will have a field day with this. i'm not sure that the chicago public league has typically been a fertile recruiting ground for notre dame because i can only think of a handful of cpl'ers who've played there down through the years (zorich and corey mays are the only two that jump to mind). that said, i think this is a mistake on nd's part and could hamper any future recruiting efforts there. as an illinois fan, i'm all for it. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) I'd trade away every baseball memory of my lifetime to have been able to watch Walter Johnson live, Babe Ruth, Juan Marichal, Lefty Grove, Satchel Paige -- no, I'm not denigrating the White Sox or the World Series victory. I'm not denigrating the Braves World Series, or anybody else's. I'm just at a point in my life where "my team" winning is far less important than the history of the game and the game itself. It's a strange statement to most but looked at properly, there is nothing wrong with it. Most of the time these days I find myself rooting for the White Sox at the ballpark but enjoying the experience win or lose because it's nice to watch the best in the game. I'm not a homer. Definitely. while i can appreciate the nostalgia, i'm just going to root for the sox to win instead of pining away for some tihs that's never going to happen. call me crazy.

i'd say probably not. i can see the performance of the offense improving, but the performance of the starting pitching dropping. i don't think we'll have a brutal season like this one, but probably one where we are only peripherally in the race. if, as most expect, either garland or contreras are traded you are pretty much committed to going with danks and floyd in the last two rotation spots. i expect danks to improve, but only to the point of being a (maybe) .500 pitcher. floyd? who the hell knows what to expect out of him.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) I know i'm late but i was busy all weekend. I haven't seen an illinois team look that good since i've been here. The running game looked amazing and juice didn't make any dumb mistakes. We keep that up, we're going bowling. this week will tell a lot. indiana's improved, at home, and beat illinois last year. if you win, you can head into the most difficult stretch of the season (penn state, wisconsin, at iowa, michigan) with a little momentum. if you lose you're looking at 2-6. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Charest has one of the strongest arms in the nation, very good get. He has some tremendous teammates as well, especially DB's. it sounds like he plays on a pretty good team because his team has been just killing their opponents. dude had seven touchdown passes last week. -

four-star quarterback jacob charest out of charlotte, nc, committed to illinois over the weekend. he chose illinois over iowa, boston college, and oregon. great get and really sets the program up at the quarterback position for the foreseeable future. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 6, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) http://www.projectprospect.com/mwc-first-round-checkup/ Aaron Poreda, LHP, Chicago White Sox (No. 25) Aaron Poreda tagged his contract offer presented by the White Sox on June 16, and he has been untouchable ever since. A 6-foot-6, 240-pounder who pitches as big as his size, Poreda has posted an equally imposing 48:10 K to BB rate in his 46.1 frames of work. The University of San Francisco product features a blazing arsenal, which has yielded a 0.85 WHIP and .181 BAA. Pair those results with a stunning 68% groundball rate and Aaron Poreda has been just about as dominant a prospect as the 2007 class has produced to date. surprising, considering how many people were willing to write this guy off the day he was drafted.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) I really think this puts Weber's job in significant jeopardy. Gillespie (sp?) will be recruiting Chicago very hard with Webster on his staff, and I don't think Weber can compete with Izzo, Matta, Sampson, Self, Gillespie, Calipari, etc. Richmond's family reaffirmed his commitment to UI, but I really think the writing is on the wall. The fact the Webster made a lateral move to leave UI is in itself interesting, and can easily be spun very negatively. It's just a bad situation. On the plus side, US News ranked UI the 8th or 9th best public university in the US. So there's that.... the only thing that will put weber's job in significant jeopardy is if the team starts losing on the court. now, it can be theorized that this will hurt the program, but i do find it funny that so many people who have been clamoring for an assistant coach change for months are now sounding the program's death knell because an assistant coach left. -
