QUOTE(Al Lopez @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Sorry. I posted the wrong article. Here's the right one. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/whitesox.asp?id=327839 well, that's just freaking piss-poor.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) I think you'd be surprised at the smaller percentage of Illinois fans on soxtalk then you think there are. i'm not sure that's really the point. sure, there is probably a low percentage of illinois fans who visit soxtalk in general. but i'd say that that number is higher if you talk about illinois fans who visit soxtalk and post about college sports, of which this blog addresses. either way, i have no problems with it being pinned here. it's not my board. i have the choice to not open crap i don't think is compelling or interesting.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) http://www.insidethehall.com/ Good stuff here on Jones and Liggins your definition of good is obviously different than mine. not much more there than recycled message board garbage.

fwiw, katz is reporting the hawes believes the bulls are going to select him if he's available at no. 9.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) The idea is good in theory, but the Bulls would never, ever, ever take JamesOn Curry. I don't think prospects who spent their senior year of high school selling drugs to any kid in North Carolina he could find fits the Skiles/Paxson system. at least the trib's k.c. johnson disagrees. this is from today's trib:

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:09 AM) I can't believe some of the things people have disagreed with me about on this board this week. I swear I could post terrorism is evil and get people to argue with me about it because of my SN. Ah well, at least it's not boring. terrorism is cool and you're an ass.

i'll admit i'm disappointed in this. although i didn't expect liggins to come to illinois (that's been pretty clear for the past month or so) i did think he was a great fit for the offense and would have done a nice job. he was the guy i probably liked most out of this class. but, as has been previously stated we are in on some other pretty good players in this class. the pressure, again, is to close which has been weber's weak spot. in terms of miller, i'm not sure i agree with relating liggins-to-kentucky as at all significant to how he views illinois or his chances of going there.

deandre liggins to kentucky, per scout.

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) That's why ESPN Radio is the ONLY sports radio in Chicago Mac Jurko and Harry http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6963954?MSNHPHMA someone might want to tell dayn that we traded cunningham.

let me guess, george ofman broke this story on the score.

what's the record for the number of times a thread title has changed in one day. we're on what, three or four now?

i just about guarantee this is complete and total speculation without one iota of reality attached.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) Cowley wrote Buerhle was, as Hawk would say, a gone goose last week. Does he really know anything? things change.

good. i'm happy to hear it and hope it is true. this is a cutthroat business and you need to gain an advantage in negotiations by any means necessary. bravo, kw.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) ... like Ken Caminiti (sp?) caminiti's death probably had more to do with the fact that he really loved cocaine.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) It definitely goes first. But out of this unfathomable tragedy will rise a media looking to crucify the wrestling industry's existence. It's going to be miserable. well, is that such a bad thing? i mean, at the end of the day the wrestling industry will be fine. there is a pretty solid niche market there and lots of fans who pay good money to watch these guys perform. wrestling isn't going anywhere. will there be feature stories on steroids and the sport? sure. will there be a recapping of wrestlers who've either died young, been involved in tragic circumstances, or struggled with life outside of the ring? probably. if you don't like those things, my advice would be to turn the dial. we have that right. and heck, at the end of the day if these stories or incidents cause the industry to step back and assess its culture, well, to me, that would be a good thing.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) I really don't like this. Not just because it's all so tragic and awful but because it means that every Mediot is going to chomp at the bits about things they don't understand. with all due respect, i think the tragedy of this situation is far, far more significant than whatever media spin is put on it. and i'm not sure what part of a murder/suicide the media or people who aren't big wrestling fans wouldn't understand.

sounds like a new club is being formed here as we speak.

really, the driving theory behind this column is that teams are not giving up prospects the way they used to for rental players. this was discussed at length this morning on mike and mike's radio show. phillips was on and he said that teams that used to be willing to deal young players have been influenced by seeing young players come up and succeed. all that said, i think the market is competitive enough that we will get some good pieces for buehrle. after that, though, i'm not sure i expect us to get much for gooch, dye, etc.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. Sure, people can and will react any way that they see fit, but there are things that are just plain wrong, and telling someone to "go to hell" is something that is just plain wrong. Why would you ever wish that on anyone? Think a bit about what you say. to clarify, i don't think i'd ever think it was ok to tell someone to go to hell or whatever. but i think that has more to do with being a general a-wipe or not than being a good or bad fan. my point is more addressing going to games vs. not going to games, or venting/obsessing vs. tuning the team out. in reality, those are the choices that the great majority of fans have to make, not the great minority which post on internet message boards. -

i think you get into dangerous territory when you start trying to define "good fan" and "bad fan." everyone deals with this kind of failure in their own way and i don't think any one course of coping or other shows whether you are a good fan or a bad fan. i tend to respect everyone's right to react however they see fit.
