  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Look, all I'm saying is this; we have at least 5 or 6 guys who we keep talking about moving this season, at least 2 or 3 of which could command top talent in return. We don't have to make a move on any of them. If MB and JD walk, we get 4 more top 50 or so draft picks next year. Yes, it'll take a couple years for those picks to mean anything, but if everything falls apart and we wind up going that route, then we have 5 top picks next year, including one in the top 5, probably another top 5 pick in 09, and then suddenly our minor leagues might look a lot more like Detroit's. If the Mets do not want to meet our asking price, fine. Deal with someone else. If no one else wants to meet our asking price, fine. Take the draft picks and see where things wind up, or just act out the plan whatever you think is best. agreed. we have the leverage here and it is in our interest to use it. i'm all for pushing this as far is it has to go to get a comparable deal, with the mind-set that if that deal doesn't arise, we take the draft picks and go on our way.
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) dont even know how to respond to these dumb comments. KU, huge TV contracts, storied tradition, tons of current nba players, ALLEN FIELDHOUSE, oh and lawrence is a wonderul campus,......i think your kansas hate should be over now, since Illinois is going to be subpar for many many many years with coach BAM. hes been in a cast for the last few weeks you dope. Kind of hard to improve, when your sitting. wtf are you talking about calling me a dope?
  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 04:53 AM) Big (6'7", 316 lbs.) OT Graham Pocic from Lemont committed to Illinois. Is very good friends with Garrett Goebel from Lombard who was thought to be very high on OSU. There were rumors that he was gonna committ a couple of weeks ago and since he didn't I think Illinois might sneak in there with Michigan, ND and OSU for his services. great freakin get. class is starting to shape up nicely.
  4. QUOTE(juddling @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) "The Hagers are trying to figure out how life went off track for their teenage daughter, Windy." Probably started the day they named her Windy!!!!
  5. am i the only person in the world who doesn't find seinfeld funny? it's no surprise to me that he tells a pretty lame joke. hell, he's told a lot of these.
  6. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) I really don't get the Kansas love, the campus is pretty bad from what I hear. Self will butter up player no doubt, but that is recruiting. Still think Illinois is fine and I was counting on Liggins anyway. I am very confident in Humphrey and Dunigan. And then you get one more of Shumpert or Suggs and its a top 15 class. i can understand why some kids would go to kansas. like them or not, they have a great tradition, play in one of college basketball's storied venues, and have always attracted top-tier players. and although lawrence probably isn't charlottesville when it comes to quality, it's isn't any worse than many, many campuses. but in general i agree. although i like liggins quite a bit there hasn't been any encouraging news on him throughout this process. it does place added pressure on getting a guy like shumpert or suggs, though.
  7. liggens favoring kansas over illinois, memphis, kentucky
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) It makes you wonder what the hell is Don Cooper doing to help these guys? probably polishing his resume at this point.
  9. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 12:28 AM) You would think a real good conditioning program might work!? to a degree, but once you have chronic back issues, it's usually just a matter of time before it sneaks up on you. moreso when you are thome's age and have all that wear and tear.
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) ryan boatwright, an 8th-grader from Illinois, verbals to floyd and usc. http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/6938958?MSNHPHMA DePaul was supposedly starting to show a bit of interest; indiana apparently was too. I wonder how many times he changes his mind... weber can't recruit.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Do you think the Cardinals would be willing to move Pujols in a deal for Buehrle if the Sox included a replacement for Albert in the deal like say Rogowski? [green]where would he play?[\green]
  12. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) I'm a year older than you! My taste buds don't like Guiness, Corona or even alot of the craft beers that are available. Oh well, I have enough of a beer gut as it is, don't need the million calories in a Guiness to add to my bulk. actually, guiness has fewer calories than you'd think. about 125, which is less than most non-light beers. beer link anyhow, i love guiness and always have. for whatever reason it's a beer that i can drink a ton of, yet not get super faced for be hung over the next day. however, i do usually limit my guinness drinking from halloween until memorial day, because i don't enjoy it as much in warm weather. for a real kick, try guiness with a shot of captain morgan in it. damn tasty.
  13. i can't see buehrle re-upping with the mets. maybe i'm wrong, but i do not see it.
  14. here's what tressel had to say: “Coach Hoeppner’s untimely passing earlier today is a loss for the game of football, the Big Ten Conference, Indiana University, his wonderful family and all the young people he touched. “Coach Hoepp was a difference maker throughout his career. He will be truly missed by his colleagues. Our thoughts are with his family and Indiana University.”
  15. juco safety donsay hardeman verbaled to illinois today. hardeman is a four-star recruit and considered the top juco safety prospect. he was the 11th-ranked prospect in florida coming out of high school and choose illinois over miami and florida.
  16. so sad prayers go out to coach hoeppner and his family.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) ^^^ Exactly. Welcome aboard. no doubt. (but the indians still stink. boo.)
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) I have been talking to some Met fans, and they think Pelfry and Milledge would be too much. yeah. i've looked at a few mets boards and the prevailing wisdom is that milledge for buehrle straight up is what's most fair. of course, they are idiots and fools so who cares what they think.
  19. while i am not a fan of trading buehrle, i'd advocate dealing him if you get a really killer deal that includes multiple prospects. however, to get this i think there needs to be a competitive market that could drive up the cost. with this in mind, who would be other potential suitors for buehrle? the only one i've seen mentioned is the cardinals, and they really don't have much in terms of prospects we'd be interested in. outside of them, who else could be interested? to me, the key to this whole thing is making sure that there are three or four legitimate suitors who can be pitted against each other.
  20. lost planning "mini" episodes to run between now and february
  21. we'll see. this team hasn't played that kind of hot baseball since the first half of last season. that's a long time and a lot of bad baseball ago.
  22. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Enlighten me, what is the walk of shame? i believe it is the early morning walk on a campus when you are wearing what you had on the night before, possessing JBF hair, and generally giving off the impression of someone who just spent the night at someone else's house.
  23. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) That's why the Dodgers have a good chance to be compete year in and year out. They have a good management that isn't scared to make a big move, to go along with a good scouting department. Wish we had that. that's ridiculous. over the past 10 years our records are virtually identical. they've made two playoff appearances and so have we. we won a world series, they haven't. so how exactly are they a visionary organization while we're just a bunch of boobs?
