  1. whatever you do, don't read it. i've seen a few where guys read from cards or at least referred to cards and it was just lame. kind of defeats the purpose. i don't think there's many general rules to heed other than respect the bride and her family. it is her day, after all (it is, it doesn't matter what anyone says) so make it special. i've given two of these and my approach was to relate a few clean stories, cut down by buddy, build up his wife then cut to the toast. also, don't get super-loaded beforehand. just bad form.
  2. QUOTE(GarlandFan20 @ May 20, 2007 -> 02:08 AM) Anyone remember Felix Diaz starting the third game of the Cubs/Sox series at the cell? I think it was in '04 and the team was down 2 games also. It kind of reminds me of that. Maybe Masset will hold his own. let me be the first one to re-visit this point. great job. and not to get on my high horse or anything, but holy s*** have people jumped the shark on this season and on this organization. i had no idea the ledge was here already.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) I don't say things based on what the recruiting sites say, everybody around here knows that by now, I have better sources than that nonsense. Tucker not coming to Illinois was 100 percent Bruce's choice, maybe "begging" was exaggerating, but he's at Illinois is Bruce had opened a spot for him instead of praying for Rose. the mention of recruiting sites was more of a general reference than directly to you, but it was probably phrased poorly. i'm aware that you speak with certain people regarding certain issues. that said, not every source or reputed source is 100 percent correct all of the time. you've been dead on on a few issues and dead off on a few, and i'd say the exact same thing about myself. in terms of making a "choice" to not select tucker, the choice was more nuanced than just portraying it as weber sitting around like a spurned schoolgirl waiting for rose to call. at least that's the way it's been presented to me by people who's information i respect.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Wainwright has done a really good job recruiting, but Tucker was the Illini's to lose, that is until they decided they didn't want to take Tucker because it was a lock that either Rose or Gordon was coming. Oops. i dunno about that. what do you base "illini's to lose" or he was "begging" to come to illinois on? if that basis is on articles on illinois recruiting sites, you know as well as i do that any story on a particular teams site is going to be slanted to those schools. most of those boards' "reporters" are little more than homer fans who have some phone numbers. i don't know what happened with the tucker recruitment, but i'm fairly certain it's a mischaracterization to say he was an illinois "lock" or anything of that sort. he liked the school, but only after a few of his other options (louisville, msu in particular) dried up. all that said, it was indeed another illinois recruiting loss so that is on weber. i just think you're overplaying how much he wanted to come to illinois. no one but dar and people around him really know that. and as sleepy said, you have to give credit where it's due. wainwright's done a great job recruiting. he's just challenged in other areas.
  5. i probably didn't really need to see that.
  6. my choice would be the indians, but that's probably only because i live in ohio and have to hear all the bullcrap from cleveland fans incessantly.
  7. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 17, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) I liked the episode, but I was frustrated as well. Nothing really was answered yesterday. After next Wednesday, nothing until next January so hopefully they answer enough questions where people will want to tune in instead of just pissing people off with more questions. if they gave us all the answers why would anyone watch any more?
  8. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ May 17, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) i am pretty sure it was Nadia and the reason people didnt help her was because of her nationality the ending of the episode was good otherwise mostly build up for the end of the episode and 2 hour finale next week yeah, it was more of a transition into the finale than anything. just one of those plot advancement episodes.
  9. was the woman charlie rescued in the alley nadia?
  10. wilco has some good s***. when i was an undergrad at illinois uncle tupelo used to play all the time at bars like mabel's and such. they pretty much rocked.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) http://www.chicagohoops.com/articles1/fruendtnw.html That's a GREAT get for Northwestern, Fruendt is a really good ballplayer, impressive to see in person. I also believe he's a 150 player on Rivals, first time I can remember Northwestern getting one of those since uber bust Michael Thompson transferred in from Duke. They also had a nice 2007 class and got a verbal a couple of days ago from a 2008 guy. Carmody FINALLY getting some players, they already have Coble who I really like and Nash is at least a highly regarded kid. agreed. fruendt is a very nice player and he coble and nash give them some good, young talent. apparently they also got a guard from glenbard west on friday.

  13. QUOTE(juddling @ May 11, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) looks like Dennis Hopper to me it would rock if they brought dennis hopper into this show. just heap on more bizarrities.
  14. what the hell is up with that richard dude not aging?
  15. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) For those of you closely following Illinois' recruiting (i.e. doc, whom I miss reading by the way; where've you been, buddy?), one noticeable difference in Weber's recruiting philosophy has been his failing to put all of his eggs in one basket and covering all his bases in his recruiting. For the first time in years, it seems like there is a distinct group-A whom the coaching staff would love to take first and foremost and plenty of contingency groups from all around the country--any one of which could come to fruition and turn into quite the commitment. I'm eagerly awaiting the first verbal of 2008. I'm sure it will be one to remember. lol. i've been around, but work has been crazy busy this past month. your points are dead on, though. in the past the biggest problem i've had with weber isn't that he hasn't landed every five-star kid he's targeted. you just are not going to hit on every one of those kids. my quarrel was with the total lack of a back-up plan. this offseason there are big targets, but there are also some pretty viable and realistic other options to fill those slots. overall, i still remain a little skeptical regarding recruiting, but i do like what seems to be a bit of a different approach. plus, as s2k5 mentioned, the tribune article this week was very positive for the program and did indeed debunk some earlier claims that intimated guys like dee and deron are actively recruiting against their program.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 6, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) Anybody have access to ESPN Insider? Todd McShay has an article today on the players for this upcoming college season which could be high NFL draft picks. Can someone either post the article or at least a detailed summary? Thanks in advance here you go:
  17. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 4, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) BREAKING NEWS!!! LOST to end in 2009. Plus much more... http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/deta...4e-b11e4b6a1259 2009 sounds about right to me, but who knows how deep they're going to take the story. i'd also read in a few places that they considered/or are considering doing a lost movie, a la x-files.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) It was indeed an excellent episode, so much going on, with enough teasers to drive you insane. I loved Locke leading Sawyer to the man who killed his parents, by saying that he wanted him to kill Ben. Well, it just wasn't the Ben you thought it would be, was it Sawyer? The actor playing that part was awesome. He sold the complete arrogence until the moment he had a chain wrapped around his neck and the life was choked out of him. The best part of all of that was the Hell references. I can't wait to find out what the island really is. I really wonder what Locke is up to now. He obvious is dragging the body back to Ben Linus to get his acceptance into the others, but does it mean he is an Other, or is he just playing the game? It was awesome to see Sayid start questioning the newest Islander, and completely miscalculate. You never see him screw up, but he seems to have screwed the pooch with her so far. I wonder what the secret that Jack and Juliet are hiding? Is it about the raids, or is it about the women on the island and the pregnancies... or is there a completely different thing which we have no idea about? Damn I can't wait for next week. great episode. the jack/juliet secret is intriguing. i don't think it's the pregnancy thing, though, since that cat is already out of the bag with at least sun. also, what the hell is rousseau going to do with all that dynamite?
  19. generally, i point and laugh at the freakishly big. of course, i'm 5-3 so i get some of that myself.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 1, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) I was shocked at the flow Olsen had actually. For a white guy, he can spit pretty well (although he says he didn't write the lyrics, but whatever). Kudos to the #31 pick in that regard. that's good to know. i haven't heard the song, but when i was picturing olsen rapping i couldn't get steve fuller out of my head. that's what made the "dick in the ear" reference so funny to me.
  21. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 1, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) An improving Illinois team against Michigan in prime time at Memorial Stadium...it's like i've seen this before or something... let's hope it ends differently this time. stupid zebras.
